A brass key and a closed notebook on a dark wooden table, for a guide on checking NBEAC accreditation of business programmes

Short answer: HEC has published an alert asking parents and students to verify NBEAC accreditation before taking admission in Business Administration, Public Administration, Management Sciences and Commerce degrees. Check the programme on the NBEAC website, nbeac.org.pk, before you pay any fee.

Business degrees are the easiest admission to sell. The brochure is glossy, the campus is new and the fee plan is flexible. The question that decides what the degree is worth is shorter: is this programme accredited by the council that checks business education?

We opened the alert on the HEC announcements page and read its image in full. It is brief, so this guide adds a method for doing the check, and marks clearly which parts are HEC's words and which are our advice.

HEC asks students to verify NBEAC accreditation before admission

The alert, titled "Parent-Student Alert: Verify Accreditation before Admission in Business, Public Administration, Management Science and Commerce", says parents and prospective students are strongly advised to verify the NBEAC accreditation status of the programme before taking admission.

NBEAC stands for National Business Education Accreditation Council. The alert carries its name and logo and points to nbeac.org.pk. It lists the council's accreditation office telephone as +92-51-90800211 and asks students to contact it with queries.

Check the programme, not only the university name

The alert speaks of the accreditation status of the program. So check the exact degree you plan to join, such as BBA, MBA or B.Com, at the exact campus. A university that is recognised may still have a business programme that is not accredited.

This is the same habit we recommend for other fields. A recognised university can offer a programme that has not met its own council's standard. For computing degrees we explained that in how to check a BS Computer Science programme is NCEAC accredited.

First confirm the institution itself. The steps for that are in how to check a university is HEC recognised. Then do the programme check below.

How to run the check step by step

Write down the exact programme title and campus from the offer letter. Open the NBEAC website and look for its accreditation status pages. If you cannot find your programme, call the NBEAC office. Do not accept the university's word alone.

  1. Write down the full degree title, the campus and the university name from the prospectus.
  2. Open nbeac.org.pk in your browser and look for where it publishes accredited institutions or programmes.
  3. Search for your university and match the programme name and campus.
  4. If it is not listed, call +92-51-90800211, the NBEAC number printed on the HEC alert, and ask for its status.
  5. Ask the university for its accreditation letter in writing and keep a copy with your fee receipts.

We tried to open the NBEAC site ourselves. It answered with a browser check that needs JavaScript, so we could not read its lists from our test tool. We therefore cannot say how its pages are laid out, and we will not guess. Open it in a normal browser.

Five steps to verify NBEAC accreditation of a business programme before admission

What to do if the programme is not on the list

Pause the payment. Ask the university in writing about the programme's accreditation status and the date it expects to be accredited. If it cannot give a clear answer, choose another programme. Any fee already paid is a matter for the refund rules.

The HEC refund policy for students who leave before classes is explained in how to get a university fee refund under HEC policy. Keep the fee voucher and the admission letter, and pay by bank challan so that you hold a record.

Be careful with social media admission ads. A page may say "HEC approved" and stop there. Recognition of a university and accreditation of a programme are two different checks, and the alert asks for the second one.

What HEC's alert does not tell you

The alert does not give a deadline, a penalty or a list of institutions. It does not say that an unaccredited degree will be rejected for attestation or for jobs. We will not add claims it does not make.

Some reports mention a date by which universities must obtain accreditation. We did not find that date on the HEC page we read, so we leave it out here. If it matters to your decision, ask NBEAC directly.

Think of the alert as a warning to ask a question. The answer comes from NBEAC, not from this page, and not from the admission office.

Common questions

What is NBEAC?

NBEAC is the National Business Education Accreditation Council. The HEC alert names it as the body whose accreditation status students should verify for business degrees.

Which degrees does the HEC alert cover?

It covers Business Administration, Public Administration, Management Sciences and Commerce programmes.

Is a recognised university enough?

No. The alert asks you to verify the accreditation status of the programme itself, not only the university.

Who do I call to ask about a programme?

The HEC alert lists the NBEAC office on +92-51-90800211. Confirm the number on nbeac.org.pk before you rely on it.

Does an unaccredited degree get attested?

The alert does not say. Ask HEC and NBEAC before you pay, and keep the answer in writing.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked on Sunday 11 October 2026. We read the HEC parent and student alert on NBEAC accreditation, including its image. The NBEAC website would not load for our test tool, so we did not read its lists. Confirm every programme there.
