Still life of a single white ball on a wooden table, for a Pakistan article on Pakistan FIH hockey ranking

Short answer: Pakistan's men are 12th in the FIH outdoor hockey world ranking, with 2,555.60 points. India are the only Asian side above them, in 8th place with 3,145.98 points. The FIH list shows Pakistan's last ranked match as 3 October 2026. You can check the list on the FIH website.

We opened the International Hockey Federation (FIH) outdoor rankings page on 13 October 2026 and read the men's table in full. It lists 104 teams. It is the clearest single number for where the team stands, now that the men have to come through a qualifier to reach the Olympics.

Pakistan is 12th, and second in Asia

Pakistan's men hold 12th place on 2,555.60 points. Only India, at 8th with 3,145.98, rank higher among Asian teams. Malaysia are 14th with 2,527.58, Japan 16th, Korea 20th and China 21st. Pakistan's last match on the list is dated 3 October 2026.

Germany lead the world on 3,720.41 points. That is 1,164.81 points more than Pakistan. The next four are Belgium, Australia, Argentina and the Netherlands.

The gaps above and below are small

Ireland, in 11th, are 89.95 points ahead. South Africa, in 13th, are 24.14 points behind, and Malaysia, in 14th, are 28.02 points behind. A few matches could swap these places, so 12th is not a settled position.

The gap to India is far bigger, at 590.38 points. Pakistan's men are not close to catching the Asian leaders, but they are well clear of Japan, who are 216.96 points back.

Three teams ahead of Pakistan are within 590 points

India are 590.38 points ahead in 8th. New Zealand in 9th lead by 410.29 and France in 10th by 286.28. Ireland, in 11th, are the nearest at 89.95. Moving up even one place needs more than a single narrow result.

The table shows that the teams just below Pakistan are packed into about 28 points, while the teams just above are spread across 590. We have not read how the FIH sets the points exchanged in a match, so we do not predict the next move.

The FIH ranking is match-based, not event-based

The FIH says its ranking has been match-based since 1 January 2020. In each match, the two teams exchange points. The number depends on the result, on how the two teams rank, and on how important the match is.

That means a team only moves when it plays ranked matches. Pakistan will not be at the Asian Champions Trophy, as the report on the Asian Champions Trophy going ahead without Pakistan shows, so it misses a chance to add points. The Pakistan Hockey League, set out in our report on the PHL launch in Islamabad, is a plan to give players more matches, but it is a domestic league and not a ranked international competition.

Check the ranking in four steps

Open the FIH rankings page, choose Outdoor, select Men's, and find your team in the list. Each row shows rank, team, continental federation, last match played and points. The page does not show a date for when the whole table was last updated.

  1. Go to the FIH website and open Rankings, then Outdoor.
  2. Choose Men's and look for Pakistan, which sits in the Asian Hockey Federation.
  3. Read the rank, the points and the last match date.
  4. Compare the points with the teams above and below.
Four steps to check Pakistan's men's hockey ranking on the FIH website

Write down the rank and the points when you check, and look again after the next international window. Because the table shows a date for each team, you can tell at once whether a change came from a match or from other teams moving past.

If the last match date on a team's row is old, its points have not moved for a while. Pakistan's date of 3 October is recent, and it matches the day we reported its Asian Games bronze medal win over Korea. The route to the Olympics, and the part the ranking plays, is covered in the guide to Pakistan hockey's road to the LA28 Olympics.
