Check a Punjab Dealer Is Authorised Before You Pay for Vehicle Registration: Rs 2,000 for a Car, Rs 500 for a Bike
Punjab Excise lets licensed dealers register new vehicles and issue plates on the spot. Check the dealer list and the Rs 2,000 car and Rs 500 bike charge first.

Short answer: Punjab Excise runs a Dealer Vehicle Registration System. A licensed dealer registers your new vehicle and issues plates on the spot. Excise lists the dealer's service charge as Rs 2,000 for a car and Rs 500 for a motorcycle or rickshaw. Check the dealer on the Excise list before you pay.
You buy a new motorbike, and the showroom says it will do the registration for you. That is a relief, because the excise office is a long queue. But who exactly is allowed to do it, and what may they charge?
We read the Punjab Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department pages on the dealer registration system on 14 October 2026. We did not buy a vehicle through a dealer, so the charges below are the ones the department lists, not a bill we paid.
Licensed dealers can register a new vehicle for you
The department says its Dealer Vehicle Registration System, called DVRS, lets licensed motor dealers register new vehicles through the excise system and hand over the number plates on the spot. The aim is to stop unregistered vehicles from running on the road.
Dealers are licensed under the Punjab Motor Vehicle Transaction Licensees Act 2015 and get access to the department's central MTMIS system. To qualify, the page lists at least three years in the car or motorcycle trade, proper premises and no criminal record among the directors. It also asks for a good credit history showing at least Rs 3 million of monthly transactions.
So the dealer is a licensed partner, not a free agent. That is why the next step matters.
The service charge is Rs 2,000 for a car and Rs 500 for a bike
The department lists a fixed service charge for the dealer route. A motor car or commercial vehicle costs Rs 2,000. A motorcycle or rickshaw costs Rs 500. The page says the dealer takes the registration fee as well as this fixed convenience charge.

| Vehicle | Dealer service charge |
|---|---|
| Motor car | Rs 2,000 |
| Commercial vehicle | Rs 2,000 |
| Motorcycle | Rs 500 |
| Rickshaw | Rs 500 |
The service charge is separate from the registration fee itself. For how that fee is worked out on a car, read the new car registration fee and total cost in Punjab. Ask the dealer to write down each amount: fee, taxes, service charge and plate.
Check the dealer list before you pay anything
The department publishes a list of authorised dealers on its dealer system page. On 14 October 2026 we counted 101 entries, and 10 of them were marked CANCELLED. By category, 79 handle motorcycles only, 15 handle every vehicle type, 4 handle commercial vehicles and 3 handle cars only.

Lahore has the most entries, 22 in our count. Faisalabad, Multan and Bahawalpur also have several. If your city or district is missing, you may need the excise office instead.
- Open the authorised dealer list on the Punjab Excise site.
- Find the dealer by name, district and vehicle category.
- Look at the name for the word CANCELLED, and skip any dealer marked so.
- Check the category covers your vehicle, since many dealers handle only motorcycles.
- Ask to see the dealer's list of dues on display before you pay.

We did not name any dealer in this guide, and we cannot say whether an entry that is not cancelled still holds a valid licence today. The page shows no update date. If in doubt, call the department on +92-42-9920 3848.
Bring the papers the department lists
For registration in your own name, the department lists the Form-F application, a copy of your CNIC, the original sales certificate and invoice with a copy for verification, and your address on a sticker for courier delivery. Your own name must match the papers.
If the booking was made in someone else's name, you add a transfer order (T.O.) form with signatures, stamp or thumb impression, plus papers showing the first buyer sold the vehicle, and that buyer's CNIC copy. Keep every original until the dealer gives you a receipt.
The courier address is not a detail to skip. The department's page says the registration documents are sent after the dealer posts the challan, so a wrong address can delay or lose the book. Write it clearly, with a phone number that rings.
What the dealer must do, and what to ask for
The department lists the dealer's duties: deposit government dues, enter the registration data, deliver the registration documents after posting the challan, keep records for five years and display the rates of all dues at the dealership. A dealer who will not show you the rates is a warning sign.
Ask for a paid challan copy and your plate before you leave. If the plate looks unusual, compare it with the Punjab number plate size and format guide. If you delay registering, there are late fees, shown in the late registration fee guide for Punjab.
Token tax is a separate payment, and you can pay it online, as explained in the token tax payment guide.

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked on 14 October 2026, Pakistan time. We read the Punjab Excise pages on the dealer vehicle registration system and the system for customers. The dealer list shows no update date, and we cannot confirm a listed dealer's licence today. Confirm the charges and the dealer with the department before you pay.
