Pakistan hosts the 14th South Asian Games from 3 to 11 April 2027 in three cities: Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar. The Olympic Council of Asia reports 28 sports, 346 medal events and about 3,200 athletes. The date is April, not March, and that matters because some older federation calendars still say March.

We read the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) notes on the South Asia Olympic Council meeting held in Islamabad on 23 August 2026, and we compared them with the 2026-27 calendars the Pakistan Sports Board publishes. This page lists what is confirmed, what is still open, and what an athlete or a fan can do now.

The Games run from 3 to 11 April 2027

The South Asian Games are set for nine days, 3 to 11 April 2027, according to the Olympic Council of Asia. Pakistan is the host. The Games are the biggest multi-sport event in the region, and the 2027 edition is the 14th.

The OCA says the South Asia Olympic Council executive committee met in Islamabad on 23 August 2026. Members from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka attended in person. India joined by video link.

Three cities share the 28 sports

Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar will host the Games. The OCA says officials were briefed on progress in Lahore and Peshawar, and that the delegation planned to visit the Islamabad venues the day after the meeting.

The OCA notes we read do not say which city gets which sport. We did not find an official sport by city list, so we do not give one. Venue lists often change before a Games, so wait for the organisers to publish the final plan.

Islamabad already has the Pakistan Sports Complex, which has a hockey stadium, a football ground, a track, squash and tennis courts and swimming pools. The rates for those venues are in our note on how to hire Pakistan Sports Complex venues.

Some Pakistani calendars still show March

Several 2026-27 calendars on the Pakistan Sports Board website list the Games as 23 to 31 March 2027. The handball calendar says Faisalabad, and the karate calendar says Lahore and Islamabad. Those dates are older than the OCA notice.

We trust the OCA date because it comes from the council that runs the Games and it is dated August 2026. Still, a federation may not have updated its own calendar yet. If you plan travel, ask your federation to confirm April.

For the same reason, treat any local venue named in a federation calendar as provisional. Faisalabad appears in the handball calendar, but the OCA names only Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar as host cities.

Athletes should start with their national federation

Pakistan sends teams through national sports federations. Selection and trials are decided by each federation, not by the Games organisers. Start there, and keep your papers ready early.

  1. Find your sport on the list of national sports federations recognised by the Pakistan Sports Board.
  2. Ask the federation for its 2026-27 calendar and its trial dates for the Games.
  3. Check that the federation is recognised, using the list of bodies the board does not recognise.
  4. Register your name for talent checks. The board runs a national talent identification system that athletes can apply to.
  5. Keep your CNIC or B-form, passport and recent results ready for team forms.

Fans should wait. We did not find ticket prices or a ticket sale date on the OCA pages. When organisers announce them, we will cover how to buy.

What is still unconfirmed

The OCA notes do not say how many athletes India will send, and they do not say India has confirmed its team. They only show India took part in the August meeting by video. We do not know more than that.

The notes also describe the meeting as a review of preparations. They do not record any vote. A 100 Days to Go event was discussed as a milestone, but we did not find a date for it.
