The World Bank's public Projects list shows 63 active projects and 9 planned ones for Pakistan on 15 October 2026. The nine planned projects add up to US$2.051 billion in listed commitments. You can search them free by name or project number at projects.worldbank.org, and open each one for money, agency and closing date.

Loan headlines say "World Bank approves" and stop there. The real detail sits on the Bank's own project pages: who borrows, who runs the work, how much is committed and when it closes. We opened the Bank's Pakistan project list and one project page on 15 October 2026, and the figures below come from them. The Bank's latest outlook for the country is in its FY27 growth and inflation forecast, which is separate from this project data.

The Projects list holds 639 Pakistan entries in four statuses

The Bank's list returned 639 projects for Pakistan on 15 October 2026. Filtered by status, it showed 63 active, 9 in the pipeline and 167 dropped. The remaining 400 are closed, which is our subtraction, not a figure the page printed.

In plain terms, "pipeline" means the project is still being prepared and has not been approved. "Active" means the Board has approved it and the money is committed. "Dropped" means the Bank stopped work before approval. "Closed" means the project is finished.

One caution. The Bank's separate data search, which we also queried, returned only 447 Pakistan projects and an older pipeline. Use the Projects page for current numbers.

Nine planned projects carry US$2.051 billion, and five are due by 30 October

The nine pipeline projects list commitments from US$1 million to US$600 million, with a total of US$2.051 billion, which is our addition. Five show a listed approval date between 27 and 30 October 2026. A listed date is a plan, not a decision.

Dates slip often. The Bank's list shows each project's stage, from concept review to begin negotiation, so a project at "Begin Appraisal" is further from approval than one at "Begin Negotiation". The RAM line shows only US$1 million, while an active project with the same name carries US$125 million, so treat that figure with care.

Five steps to search a World Bank project for Pakistan on the Projects list

A project page shows who borrows, who runs it and when it closes

Each project page lists the project number, status, borrower, implementing agency, total cost, closing date and environmental category. It also has finance tables, documents, procurement notices and an alert sign-up for that project, all free to read.

Take the BEST-PAK grid project, number P504536. The Board approved it on 9 July 2026. The Bank committed US$375.9 million, made of US$200 million from IBRD and US$175.9 million from IDA, against a total cost of US$695.3 million. The borrower is the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The implementing agencies are the Ministry of Energy Power Division and the National Grid Company, and the closing date is 31 December 2029.

Commitment is a promise to lend or grant, not money spent. The page's "Disbursed" column shows how much has actually been paid. For BEST-PAK it showed no disbursement data on 15 October 2026.

A project that hurts you has a separate complaint route

If a project affects your land, home, income or water, the Bank runs a Grievance Redress Service for affected people. Complaints must be in writing, and the service treats them as confidential. Check the project number first so the complaint names the right project.

The Bank's other news about Pakistan sits in the 2026 IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok, and the regional view is in the South Asia outlook that left Pakistan out. For rail work with another lender, see the ML-1 upgrade where ADB weighs a role.

Common questions about World Bank projects in Pakistan

How many World Bank projects are active in Pakistan?

The Bank's Projects list showed 63 active projects for Pakistan on 15 October 2026. Another 9 were in the pipeline.

Does a commitment mean Pakistan already has the money?

No. A commitment is the amount approved. Money is paid out over the project's life, and the Finances section shows what has been disbursed.

Is the World Bank list free to search?

Yes. The Projects list is public. You can filter, search and download project data.

What does the pipeline status mean?

A pipeline project is being prepared. Its listed approval date is a plan, and the Board may approve it later, change it or drop it.

Yes. Each project page has an e-alert sign-up for that project number.

Who pays the loan back?

The borrower named on the project page does. For the BEST-PAK project that is the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
