Dow University Hospital (DUH) Karachi runs most consultant OPD clinics from 9am to 1pm, with afternoon clinics from about 2pm to 5pm, Monday to Saturday. Its emergency is open 24 hours. We counted 147 consultants on the "Find a Doctor" page. Of 494 listed clinic sessions, 264 start at 9am and 192 end at 1pm. Friday morning clinics often end earlier, at noon. Saturday has clinics too, 70 of them.

Always check your own doctor's days before you travel. One cardiologist sits only on Friday morning, while some gynaecologists sit three days a week.

Every Dow phone line and its hours

The DUHS hospital page lists four separate numbers, each with its own hours. The Ojha OPD line runs the longest, from 8:30am to midnight. The DUH number on the same page is 021-99216901.

For an appointment or a clinic day, call the Ojha OPD line. For a scan date, call Dow Radiology. For an ambulance in Sindh, the free 1122 ambulance service is faster than calling the hospital.

Book a Dow consultant online or on the Dow Care app

The "Book Appointment" button on the DUH page opens the DUHS "Find a Doctor" page. You choose a specialty and a location, see each consultant's days and hours, and press "Book Now". DUHS also links a Dow Care app on Google Play and the App Store.

1. Open the "Find a Doctor" page on duhs.edu.pk, or install the Dow Care app.
2. Pick the specialty, such as cardiology or gynaecology, from the list.
3. Pick the location: DUH, IBS (the behavioural sciences institute) or OICD (the Ojha Institute of Chest Diseases).
4. Read the consultant's clinic days and hours, and press "Book Now" for a suitable day.
5. If the online booking does not work, call the Ojha OPD line, 021-111-362-273.

We did not complete a booking, so we cannot say whether it asks for payment in advance. Arrive early on the day with your CNIC and old reports.

Dow University Hospital has 36 departments

The DUH page lists 36 departments, from general medicine to bone marrow transplant. It runs liver transplants, kidney transplants, cancer surgery, radiation oncology and vascular surgery under one roof.

• Medicine: general medicine, pulmonology and sleep lab, diabetes and endocrinology, GI and liver, nephrology, cardiology, neurology, rheumatology, dermatology, psychiatry, infectious disease, family medicine, clinical haematology and bone marrow transplant.

• Surgery: general surgery, hepato-biliary surgery and liver transplant, urology, renal transplant, plastic, vascular, thoracic, neurosurgery and orthopaedics.

The hospital also hosts the National Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology, the National Institute of Liver and GI Diseases and the Dow Institute of Cardiology, according to the page.

Emergency, wards and complaints at DUH

DUH offers 24/7 emergency care, general wards, semi-private and private rooms, and ICU, HDU and newborn intensive care. It works with the Dow Diagnostic Research and Reference Laboratory and the Dow Institute of Radiology for tests and scans.
