ECAT Test for UET Lahore Engineering Admission in Pakistan: 100 Questions, No Negative Marking
ECAT for UET Lahore engineering admission: 100 questions in 100 minutes, 4 points each, no negative marking, five subject groups and the best score counts.

ECAT is a 100 minute test with 100 questions: 10 on English and 90 split equally among your three chosen subjects. Each correct answer earns four points, and there is no negative marking and no pass mark. The fee in the 2026 second round was Rs 3,000. Your best score counts if you sit more than once.
The Engineering College Admission Test, or ECAT, is run by UET Lahore. This guide uses the official ECAT pages we read on 8 October 2026. The pages show 2026 dates only, so the 2027 schedule is not out yet.
Know who must sit the ECAT
UET Lahore says the test has been held since 1999 for public engineering institutions in Punjab. It also says the test is mandatory for undergraduate engineering programmes at both public and private institutions, following Pakistan Engineering Council directives.
So even if you plan to study at a private engineering college, ask whether you need an ECAT score. Check that the programme you pick is accredited. Our guide to checking an engineering programme is PEC accredited explains how. If you are comparing other universities, see the guide to NUST NET 2027 registration, which uses its own test.
Learn the test pattern and scoring
The ECAT page gives the length as 100 minutes. Ten questions are about English. The other 90 are divided equally among the other subjects. A correct answer is worth four points. The page states there is no negative marking and no passing threshold for any programme.
| Feature | What the ECAT page says |
|---|---|
| Time | 100 minutes |
| English questions | 10 |
| Other subject questions | 90, shared equally |
| Points for a correct answer | 4 |
| Negative marking | None |
| Passing threshold | None for any programme |

Because wrong answers do not lose points, you should answer every question. Leaving a blank gains you nothing. Use the last minutes to guess the ones you skipped.
Pick the right subject group
The page lists five subject combinations. You choose one when you apply. It decides which engineering programmes your score can be used for, so pick it with your FSc subjects and your target programme in mind.
- Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
- Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science.
- Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science.
- Biology, Physics and Chemistry.
- Mathematics, Statistics and Physics.
The page does not say which programmes accept which group, so check the UET admission prospectus for your programme before you apply. If you are choosing a computing degree, our guide to BS Computer Science admission for pre-medical students explains the subject rules.
Pay the fee and follow the application steps
For the second 2026 round the page showed a fee of Rs 3,000, a closing date of 13 June, an admit card on 24 June, tests from 16 to 21 June and results on 30 June. These are last cycle's dates. The ECAT site lists a five step process, repeated each round.

- Pay the fee by the challan generated on the site.
- Complete the application form.
- Print your admit card.
- Appear in the test.
- Get your result through the portal.
Print the admit card as soon as it is available. Do not pay anyone who offers to apply for you. Use only the official ECAT site, ecat.uet.edu.pk.
Remember the rules that can cost you a seat
The page says that you need photo identification to sit the test and that without it you may be expelled from the test centre. It also says that a candidate who misses the test will not be allowed to retake it. Treat the test day as fixed.
Multiple attempts are allowed, and the best score is considered. The page states that scores from the 2026 ECAT stay valid for admission to UET for the Fall 2026 semester. It does not say how long a score lasts after that, so do not assume it carries over to 2027.

Carry your CNIC or B-Form and your admit card. If your fee is paid, keep the receipt. If you are also considering HEC tests for other universities, see the guide to the HEC USAT test.
Common questions about the ECAT
How many questions are in the ECAT?
The ECAT page says 10 are on English and the other 90 are shared equally among the other subjects. That makes 100 questions in 100 minutes.
Is there negative marking in the ECAT?
No. The ECAT page states there is no negative marking. Answer every question, because a blank scores nothing.
What is the pass mark for the ECAT?
There is no passing threshold for any programme, according to the page. Your score is used in the merit for admission. We could not verify the merit formula on the pages we read.
Can I retake the ECAT to improve my score?
Yes. Multiple attempts are allowed and the best score is considered. A candidate who misses a test cannot retake that sitting.
When is the next ECAT?
The site showed 2026 dates only when we read it on 8 October 2026. Watch ecat.uet.edu.pk and the UET admission portal for the next announcement.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 8 October 2026 on the official UET Lahore ECAT pages at ecat.uet.edu.pk, including the About ECAT page and the Fall 2026 second round page. We could not verify the merit formula, the minimum FSc marks or any 2027 dates, because the pages we read did not list them. Confirm everything on the official site before you apply.
