Can Pre-Medical Students Join BS Computer Science in Pakistan? The 6-Credit Maths Rule

NCEAC lets Pre-Medical students into BS computing if they pass two extra Maths courses in year one. See the 50 per cent rule, who is excluded and what to ask.

Yes, an FSc Pre-Medical student can now take BS Computer Science in Pakistan. The council's rule says you must study two extra Mathematics courses, worth 6 credit hours, in your first year. Students with no Maths and no Pre-Medical background cannot be admitted.

The rule comes from the National Computing Education Accreditation Council. Its corrigendum is dated 8 September 2026 and applies to admissions from the 2026 admission year. We read the document on the council's website on 8 October 2026.

The basic entry rule is 50 per cent in HSSC or A Levels

To enter any BS computing programme you need an HSSC or A Level certificate with at least 50 per cent marks, based on at least 12 years of schooling. An IBCC equivalent qualification also counts. The Mathematics rule then decides which group of students qualifies.

Twelve years of schooling means matric plus two years of intermediate or A Levels. If your qualification is from abroad or from a different system, our guide to getting an IBCC equivalence certificate explains how to make it count.

Your backgroundEligible for BS computing
Studied Maths at HSSC (Pre-Engineering, ICS, General Science, Commerce or any group)Yes
Pre-Medical (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, no Maths)Yes, with two extra Maths courses of 6 credit hours
No Maths and not Pre-MedicalNo
ADP holder moving to 5th semesterYes, if the rules above are met and CGPA is at least 2.0

Pre-Medical students must complete 6 credit hours of Maths

Pre-Medical students who did not study Maths at HSSC may join, but they must complete two additional Mathematics courses, 6 credit hours in total, during the first year, including the zero semester. These count as deficiency courses.

A zero semester is an extra term some universities run before the first regular semester for students who need to fill a gap. Whether a university runs one is up to that university.

BS computing admission rules for Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering and ICS students in Pakistan

If you failed MDCAT or changed your mind after FSc Pre-Medical, this is the door. You do not need to repeat intermediate. You need to pass two more Maths courses early, and you need an admission letter that says so.

The rule also covers transfers and lateral entry

The corrigendum applies to all regular admissions, to lateral entry of associate degree holders into the 5th semester, and to transfers from and to BS computing programmes. Lateral entrants also need a CGPA of at least 2.0.

So an ADP student cannot skip the Maths test by moving sideways. The same eligibility check is applied at the 5th semester.

If you are moving from another university, ask the receiving department how your earlier courses are counted before you pay a transfer fee.

What students should ask the admissions office

Ask the admissions office three things in writing: whether the programme follows the NCEAC corrigendum of 8 September 2026, which Maths deficiency courses it will give you, and whether they are counted inside the first year. Keep the reply.

  1. Confirm your HSSC or A Level marks are at least 50 per cent.
  2. Check whether Maths appears on your result card.
  3. If you are Pre-Medical, ask for the two Maths deficiency courses in your offer letter.
  4. Check that the programme is accredited, using the steps in our guide to checking a BS computer science programme with NCEAC.
  5. Pay the first fee only after you hold the written answers.
Questions to ask a Pakistani university before joining BS computer science after Pre-Medical Council eligibility is a minimum and not a guaranteed seat in BS computing in Pakistan

Entry tests and merit lists are separate from this rule

This rule sets only the minimum eligibility. Each university still runs its own test and merit list, and a university may ask for more than the minimum. Meeting the council's rule does not guarantee a seat.

If your target is a national university, check its test dates early. Our guide to registering for the NUST NET for 2027 admissions shows how one of them runs its process, and the HEC test dates are in our guide to the USAT on 25 October.

Common questions

Can a Pre-Medical student join BS Computer Science?

Yes. The student must complete two additional Mathematics courses of 6 credit hours in the first year, as deficiency courses.

Do I need Maths at FSc for BS Software Engineering or AI?

The corrigendum speaks of BS computing programmes in general, so the same rule applies. Ask the university about its own programme.

What marks do I need?

At least 50 per cent in HSSC or A Levels, or an IBCC equivalent qualification, as the basic eligibility requirement.

Does this apply from this year?

The document says the revised criteria are effective from the 2026 admission year.

What CGPA do ADP holders need for lateral entry?

A minimum CGPA of 2.0, plus the Maths and marks conditions above, for entry into the 5th semester.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 8 October 2026. We read the corrigendum on admission criteria for BS computing programmes, dated 8 September 2026, on the National Computing Education Accreditation Council website at nceac.org.pk, and the council's notifications list. The 50 per cent minimum, the Maths and Pre-Medical conditions, the 6 credit hour deficiency courses, the lateral entry CGPA of 2.0 and the 2026 admission year are taken from that document. It refers to an earlier council notification dated 22 April 2026 and to two HEC letters, which we did not read. Each university sets its own test, merit and fees, so confirm with the admissions office of the university you are applying to.
