FBISE Class 9 and 10 Books 2026-27: Publisher List for 23 Subjects, General Maths Dropped in Class 9
FBISE's 2026-27 book list for class 9 and 10 covers 23 subjects. General Maths is dropped in class 9 for Functional Maths, and AI is new. See every publisher.

Short answer: FBISE's list of recommended books for class 9 and 10 in 2026-27 covers 23 subjects. The National Book Foundation publishes the class 9 book in 10 of them and the Punjab Textbook Board in 7. General Mathematics is discontinued in class 9, replaced by Functional Mathematics.
The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education issued the list on 13 October 2026. It names the curriculum year and the publisher for each subject at SSC-I (class 9) and SSC-II (class 10). It applies to schools affiliated with FBISE in Islamabad, cantonments, garrisons and other federal networks. Here is the full list, with the changes that matter most.
The list covers 23 subjects for class 9 and 10
FBISE's notice lists 23 subjects, mostly electives and humanities subjects, from Functional Mathematics to Physiology and Hygiene. It does not cover the core science subjects such as Physics or Chemistry. For those, FBISE points to its syllabus page.
The notice is issued under FBISE's Inclusive Scheme of Studies 2024, Revised Version-I, which FBISE notified on 13 October 2025. It says the books are recommended on the basis of a no objection certificate, or NOC, from the National Curriculum Council and advice from FBISE's subject committees. The council is the federal body that approves curriculum.
One line deserves attention. FBISE says the list "is not conclusive" and other material with a council NOC may also be used. So a school may also use another approved book, as long as it has that NOC and the committee recommends it.

Class 9 books come mainly from two publishers
For class 9, the National Book Foundation in Islamabad publishes the recommended book in 10 subjects. The Punjab Textbook Board in Lahore publishes it in 7. Three subjects point to an online curriculum link instead of a named book.

Some curricula are old. Islamic Studies and Arabic follow a 1986 curriculum, and English Literature one from 1976. FBISE has not changed those in this list.
General Mathematics is gone from class 9
The biggest change is in Mathematics for Humanities students. General Mathematics is marked "Discontinued" for class 9. Functional Mathematics, on a 2025 curriculum from the National Book Foundation, takes its place for both Humanities and Matric Tech students.
Class 10 students already in the system keep General Mathematics, on the 2006 curriculum, from Ali Brotheran, Lahore. So a family with a child in each class may need two different maths books this year. Do not hand down last year's class 9 General Mathematics book.
Matric Tech students also get Functional English and Functional Urdu at class 9, both 2025 curricula from the National Book Foundation. Matric Tech is FBISE's technical stream at matric level, which now includes new trades such as beautician and chef.

Artificial Intelligence is a new class 9 subject on a 2026 curriculum
Artificial Intelligence appears in the list for class 9 with a 2026 curriculum. FBISE gives a curriculum link on its site instead of a named book or publisher. No class 10 entry is listed yet.
Art, Model Drawing and Fine Arts and Home Economics also use a curriculum link for class 9. For these three subjects, teachers work from FBISE's syllabus document. Parents asked to buy a "board book" for them should ask the school which approved book it uses, since FBISE names none.
English Literature still uses the same named readers
For English Literature, class 9 uses More Poems for Young People Part I from Oxford University Press, an abridged Great Expectations from Longmans, and one play, The Count's Revenge, from D.Y. Morgan's Two One Act Plays.
Class 10 uses More Poems for Young People Part II, Power and Progress by G.G. Thornley, and the play Progress from the same D.Y. Morgan collection.
Art, Model Drawing and Fine Arts at class 10 lists two books on its 2009 syllabus: Architecture in Pakistan by Kamil Khan Mumtaz, and Aspects of Art by Marjorie Hussain from Oxford University Press.
How to use the list when buying books
Match each subject your child takes to the row, then buy the edition for the right curriculum year and class. Check with the school before buying any book for subjects with only a curriculum link.
- Get your child's subject list from the school for 2026-27.
- Find each subject in the table above and note the class 9 or class 10 entry.
- Buy the book from the named publisher, matching the curriculum year.
- For Art, Home Economics and Artificial Intelligence in class 9, ask the school which approved material it follows.
- For core subjects not on this list, check the FBISE syllabus page or ask the school.
Punjab schools follow a different book policy, and Punjab has its own plan for fewer books in the new school curriculum. This FBISE list does not apply to Punjab board schools. For how FBISE papers will be set in the core subjects, see the 50 per cent MCQ pattern.

How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 20 October 2026. We read FBISE notice No. 1-10/FBISE/RES/SSC/326 dated 13 October 2026, "Detail of recommended teaching learning material at SSC level", signed by the Deputy Secretary (Research and Academics), on the FBISE website. The notice says the same information is on FBISE's syllabus page. The publisher counts are our own count of the 23 rows. We could not check book prices or availability in shops, and the notice does not list the core subjects.
