Fly With Sports Equipment on Emirates From Pakistan: 300 cm Limit and Rules
Fly with sports equipment on Emirates from Pakistan: gear counts in your allowance, 300 cm maximum size, bicycles need 24 hours notice, and firearms three days.

Short answer: Emirates carries sports equipment as checked baggage inside your normal allowance. On weight concept routes no item may exceed 300 cm in total size, and a bicycle needs notice at least 24 hours before the flight. Firearms need Emirates approval at least three days ahead.
A young cricketer, a hockey player or a cyclist leaving Pakistan for a tournament often finds the rule only at the desk. We read the Emirates Pakistan page on unusual baggage and special allowances on 14 October 2026. This guide covers what is allowed, how big it can be and what to arrange before you fly.
Sports gear counts as part of your allowance
Emirates accepts sporting equipment as checked baggage, as part of your standard allowance. That includes golf equipment, bicycles and ski equipment. If your total weight or number of bags goes over the free allowance, excess baggage rates apply.
So a kit bag does not fly free on top of your suitcase. Add its weight to your other bags before you decide what to pay for. Our page on Emirates baggage allowance from Pakistan lists the kilos for each fare, and the cost of extra kilos is in the page on Emirates excess baggage rates.
Size limit: 300 cm in total
Under the weight concept, an individual item with total dimensions above 300 cm cannot go as checked baggage and must be sent as cargo. Emirates says there are no exceptions. On piece concept routes the whole division of sports equipment must not exceed 300 cm.
| Item | What Emirates says |
|---|---|
| Any sports equipment | Checked baggage, within allowance, 300 cm total size maximum |
| Bicycle | Contact Emirates at least 24 hours before the flight; special packing rules may apply |
| Windsurf, kite, kayak, body board | Accepted if sails detach and fold, packed in a hard shell case |
| Surfboard | Remove fins, pad nose, tail and rails, use a padded bag |
| Ski set | Part of allowance; extra charges may apply in some cases |

Pack hard and padded
For windsurf and similar gear Emirates asks for a hard shell case. Without one, Emirates says a Limited Release will be required. Padding is the cheapest insurance you have.
- Measure the packed item: length plus width plus height. Stay under 300 cm.
- Use a hard case or a thick padded bag.
- Weigh the bag at home and add it to your other bags.
- Contact Emirates at least 24 hours before the flight if the item is a bicycle.
- Ask at check-in for the exact charge if you are over your allowance.

Sporting firearms need approval three days ahead
Sporting firearms such as target pistols and hunting rifles can travel only as checked baggage, unloaded and packed. Emirates must approve any firearm or ammunition at least three days before the flight, using its firearms form.
Ammunition must be in a sealed strong box inside a suitcase. The limit is 5 kg gross per customer, with no group sharing one bag. Entering the UAE with firearms also needs prior clearance from UAE Customs and the Ministry of Defence. A Pakistani shooter should also read the rules on customs baggage in Pakistan before returning home with any gear.
Tell your team or club before you book
A squad flying together should agree on who carries which bag, and add up the weight of all the gear before the ticket is bought. A few extra bags across a group can push everyone over the free limit.
It also helps to pick fares with a larger allowance. A Flex Plus Economy fare gives more kilos than a Special fare on most routes, and the saving on the ticket can vanish at the check-in desk. Ask Emirates which allowance your whole booking carries, and keep the written answer with your tickets.
Other special allowances
Passengers with disabilities may check a collapsible wheelchair, braces or crutches at no charge. One CPAP or PAP sleep device may go as checked baggage, and a portable dialysis machine may be carried at no charge. Assistance dogs travel in the hold.
Infants under 2 get a cabin bag up to 5 kg, and checked baggage of 10 kg on most routes. Pets cannot go in the cabin, with one exception: falcons between Dubai and certain destinations in Pakistan. For a cat or dog from Pakistan on the national carrier, see the rules in flying a dog or cat on PIA.

How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked on 14 October 2026, Pakistan time. We read the Emirates Pakistan unusual baggage page. The page names no cricket or hockey rule, so we state none. We did not check in any equipment. Rules vary on routes flown by other airlines, so confirm with Emirates before you fly.
