Gemini API Key Free in Pakistan: Get It in Google AI Studio, Every Free Model and Reset Time
Get a free Gemini API key in Pakistan from Google AI Studio with no card. See all 8 free models, the 12 noon reset time, paid tiers and the 3 common key errors.

You can get a free Gemini API key in Pakistan at aistudio.google.com/apikey: sign in with a Google account, click Create API key, and copy it. No card is needed for the free tier, and Pakistan is on Google's list of countries where the Gemini API and Google AI Studio work. The catch is which models are free, when the daily limit resets in Pakistan time, and what Google does with free-tier prompts. All of that is below, along with the fixes for the three errors people hit first.
We read Google's Gemini API pricing, rate limit, regions and API key pages on 28 October 2026. Two of them were updated on 26 and 27 October, so older tutorials are already out of date.
The free Gemini API key comes from Google AI Studio
Open aistudio.google.com/apikey, sign in with your Google account, and press Create API key. New users get a default Google Cloud project and a key automatically. The key works with every model that Google marks "Free of charge" on its pricing page.
- Open aistudio.google.com/apikey in Chrome or any browser.
- Sign in with a personal Google account. A Gmail address is enough.
- Accept the terms the first time AI Studio asks.
- Click Create API key. If you already use Google Cloud, first choose Import projects on the Projects view, then create the key inside that project.
- Copy the key and store it somewhere private, such as a password manager.
Google says every key belongs to a Google Cloud project, and that project is what handles billing and permissions later. Keys made in AI Studio since 28 May 2026 are "auth" keys by default, so you do not need to change any setting.

Eight Gemini models are free on the API in October 2026
Google's pricing page marks Gemini 3.8 Flash, 3.6 Flash, 3.5 Flash-Lite, 3.1 Flash-Lite, 3 Flash Preview, 2.5 Pro, 2.5 Flash and 2.5 Flash-Lite as free of charge. Gemini 4 Argon, 3.1 Pro Preview and the image and video models are paid only.
| Model | Free tier | Paid price per 1M tokens (input / output) |
|---|---|---|
| Gemini 4 Argon | Not available | $2 / $10 until 30 November, then $4 / $20 |
| Gemini 3.8 Flash | Free | $0.75 / $3.75 until 31 December, then $1.50 / $7.50 |
| Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite | Free | $0.30 / $2.50 |
| Gemini 2.5 Pro | Free | $1.25 / $10 (up to 200,000 input tokens) |
| Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite | Free | $0.10 / $0.40 |
| Nano Banana 2.1 (images) | Not available | $30 per 1M image output tokens |
| Gemini Omni Flash (video) | Not available | $17.50 per 1M video output tokens |
Two price rises are already written into the page. Gemini 4 Argon doubles from 1 December 2026, and both 3.8 Flash and 3.6 Flash double from 1 January 2027. If you are building a paid app on these models, budget for the new rate now. The model swap that came before this is set out in Gemini 3.7 Flash being retired for 3.8 Flash.

The daily limit resets at 12 noon in Pakistan, then 1 pm from November
Google says requests per day reset at midnight Pacific time. While California is on summer time, that is 12:00 noon in Pakistan. After clocks change on 1 November 2026, the reset moves to 1:00 pm Pakistan time.
So a key that hits its daily cap at 2 am Pakistan time stays blocked for about ten hours. Plan heavy runs for the early afternoon.
Google no longer prints the exact free-tier numbers on its documentation page. It sends you to the rate limit page inside AI Studio, at aistudio.google.com/rate-limit, which shows your own project's limits per model.

Free-tier prompts are used to improve Google's products
Google's pricing page says content sent on the free tier is used to improve its products, and content on the paid tier is not. Do not send client files, CNIC scans, medical records or passwords through a free key.
A free key is fine for learning and hobby apps. For a client's customer data, link a billing account so the project moves to the paid tier, or keep that data out of the prompt.
One more change landed on 26 October. Google says new paid-tier projects now store generateContent requests by default. You can switch that off per request with store=false, or in the Logs and Datasets settings in AI Studio. Existing projects keep their current setting.
Paid tiers start when you link a billing account
Google lists four usage tiers. The free tier needs only an active project. Tier 1 starts when you link a billing account. Tier 2 needs $100 paid plus three days, and Tier 3 needs $1,000 paid plus 30 days.
| Tier | How you qualify | Billing cap | Spend limit per 10 minutes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | Active project or free trial | None | None |
| Tier 1 | Link an active billing account | $250 | $10 |
| Tier 2 | $100 paid and 3 days since first payment | $2,000 | $50 |
| Tier 3 | $1,000 paid and 30 days since first payment | $20,000 to $100,000+ | $200 |
Billing from Pakistan needs a card that works for international online payments. Payments abroad count toward the USD 30,000 yearly card limit, which a small API bill will barely touch. Set a billing alert in the Google Cloud console on day one.
Three errors stop most first-time users
The common problems are a greyed-out Create API key button, a rate limit error after a burst of requests, and a model that refuses the free key. Each has a quick fix that does not need a new Google account.
- Create API key is greyed out. Google says this usually means your account lacks permission in an organisation project. Create a new project that is not tied to an organisation, or ask the admin for the Project Editor role.
- Rate limit error. You have used the per-minute or per-day quota. Wait a minute for the per-minute limit, or until 12 noon Pakistan time for the daily one, or slow your script down.
- Model not available on free tier. You called Gemini 4 Argon, 3.1 Pro Preview or an image model. Switch to 3.8 Flash or 2.5 Flash, or add billing.
Treat the key like a password
Google tells developers never to commit a Gemini API key to Git, never to put it inside a website or mobile app, and to read it from an environment variable. If a key leaks, make a new one, update your app, then disable the old key.
On Windows, open Environment Variables, add a user variable named GEMINI_API_KEY with your key as the value, and open a fresh terminal. On a Mac or Linux machine, add an export line to your shell profile. If both GEMINI_API_KEY and GOOGLE_API_KEY are set, Google says GOOGLE_API_KEY wins, which confuses a lot of people.
Freelance projects change hands often, so keys leak. The same steps apply to any vendor, as in rotating API keys after a breach.

Common questions
Is the Gemini API free in Pakistan?
Yes, for eight models. Pakistan is on Google's list of supported countries, and the free tier needs no card. Gemini 4 Argon and the image and video models need billing.
Do I need a credit card for a Gemini API key?
No. A Google account is enough for the free tier. You only add a card when you link a billing account to reach Tier 1.
When does the Gemini API daily limit reset in Pakistan?
At 12 noon Pakistan time until 1 November 2026, then at 1 pm. Google resets daily quotas at midnight Pacific time.
Can I use Gemini 4 Argon with a free key?
No. Google lists Argon as not available on the free tier. It costs $2 per million input tokens until 30 November and $4 from 1 December.
Is my data private on the free Gemini API?
Not fully. Google says free-tier content is used to improve its products. Paid-tier content is not, so keep client and personal data off a free key.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
We read Google's Gemini API pricing page (updated 27 October 2026), the rate limits page (updated 26 October), the available regions page (updated 22 October), the API key page and the API changelog on 28 October 2026. The Pakistan reset times are our conversion from Pacific time. We could not read the exact free-tier request numbers, because Google now shows them only inside a signed-in AI Studio account.
