You can get a number plate of your choice in Punjab only through the Excise Department's e-auction at eauction-excise.punjab.gov.pk. A personalised Gold plate such as AAA 157 starts at Rs 500,000, a Platinum name plate at Rs 3 million, and you pay a Rs 5,000 or Rs 10,000 entry fee that is not refunded.

Punjab runs two kinds of choice number. The first is a regular series number, such as a low number in a new series, which goes to auction every month. The second is a personalised vanity plate, where you pick the letters yourself, up to eight characters. We read the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department's terms and its October 2026 auction schedule on 2 October 2026. Every figure below comes from those two documents.

Punjab has two ways to get a choice number plate

Punjab sells choice numbers in two ways, both online. The monthly series auction sells numbers from a new series, such as BBN, to the highest bidder. The vanity plate scheme lets you design your own plate in Gold, Platinum or Corporate style, then bid for it over 15 days.

Both run on the same e-auction portal, and both ask you to log in with your CNIC.

The October 2026 series auction dates for cars and motorcycles

The Excise schedule for October 2026 lists five car series, five motorcycle series and one commercial series. For each series you register first, then bid over two days. Number selection runs from 8 am to 5 pm, and bidding runs from 9 am to 9 pm.

The car series are BBN, BBP, BBQ, BBR and BBS. The motorcycle series are BFK, BFL, BFM, BFN and BFP. The commercial series is CBN. Each covers the complete series.

Vanity plate prices and the rules on what you can write

A Gold vanity plate starts at Rs 500,000 and a Platinum plate at Rs 3 million, rising to Rs 5 million for letters alone or digits alone. The plate can hold at most eight characters, in capital letters, with no dots, dashes, symbols or double spaces.

The terms, dated 10 December 2024, set these reserve prices:

  • Platinum, letters only or digits only: Rs 5 million. The examples given are SARAH, BILAL, 7, A and 192.
  • Platinum, letters with an attractive number: Rs 4 million, for plates like RANA 001 or S 786.
  • Platinum, letters with any other number: Rs 3 million, for plates like ASLAM130.
  • Gold with an attractive number: Rs 700,000, for plates like AAA 786 or AAA 100.
  • Gold with any other number: Rs 500,000, for plates like AAA 157.

"Attractive" means a number on the schedule in the terms, such as 1 to 12, 100, 786, 1000 or 2222. Those cost more.

A scrutiny committee checks every request within 48 hours. It refuses plates that suggest a link to a government body, copy an existing plate, or are obscene, violent or insulting to any religion, race, gender or disability. It reads the plate forward, backward, in a mirror and by sound, so a clever spelling will not get through. If you are refused, you can appeal to the Director General Excise and Taxation within 14 days.

How to bid for a vanity number plate, step by step

Register on the e-auction portal with your CNIC, enter your car's registration number and date, pay the entry fee, and wait for approval. Bidding then runs for 15 days, and the winner pays the balance through a PSID before it expires.

  1. Clear your token tax. The terms bar any vehicle that is a token tax defaulter, or whose registration is suspended or cancelled. If you are behind, pay your Punjab token tax online first.
  2. Register on the portal. Go to eauction-excise.punjab.gov.pk and sign up with your name, CNIC, mobile number and email. The login page asks for your CNIC, a password and a captcha.
  3. Add your vehicle. Enter the registration number and registration date, as printed on your Punjab vehicle smart card. The portal fetches the owner's details. Only a sole owner can apply for Gold or Platinum.
  4. Choose the plate and accept the terms. Type the characters you want and tick the terms and conditions.
  5. Pay the entry fee. It is Rs 5,000 for Gold and Rs 10,000 for Platinum, for each application, and it is not refunded even if you lose. Payment is through ePay Punjab, which you can use on the ePay Punjab app.
  6. Wait for the committee. It decides within 48 hours. Bidding opens only after approval.
  7. Bid. Bids go up in steps of Rs 1,000. Anyone else who wants the same plate can join by paying their own entry fee.
  8. Pay the balance if you win. The result comes on the 15th day at 9 pm. You get a PSID for the remaining amount. If you miss its expiry date, you lose the plate and it goes back to auction.
Steps to bid for a personalised vanity number plate on the Punjab Excise e-auction portal

The last hour of bidding has its own rules

Nobody new can join an auction in its last hour. If someone bids in the last 15 minutes, the auction adds two minutes, and it keeps adding two minutes until a bid goes unanswered.

So enrol before the final hour, and decide your top price before the last day. A last-second bid cannot win, because it gives the other side two more minutes.

The department pays no interest on any money you deposit. The Director General's decision on any vanity plate matter is final, under the terms.

Corporate plates are only for registered companies

A company, firm or association of persons can put its brand name on its own vehicles. It pays Rs 10 million to register in the Corporate category, then a reserve price of Rs 500,000 to Rs 1 million for each plate.

The company enters the vehicle number, registration date and its NTN, and can apply only for brands it owns. Unlike individuals, companies may use vehicles still under a bank lease.

Once you have the plate, make sure it is the official one. The Excise poster for the scheme warns that fitting an illegal number plate is an offence. You can check how your vehicle shows up under Vanity Vehicle Verification when you check car registration in Punjab.

Common questions

How much does a vanity number plate cost in Punjab?

The starting price is Rs 500,000 for a Gold plate and Rs 3 million to Rs 5 million for a Platinum plate. The final price is whatever wins the auction. The entry fee of Rs 5,000 or Rs 10,000 is extra and not refunded.

Can I put my name on a number plate in Punjab?

Yes, in the Platinum category. A plate with letters only, such as a name, starts at Rs 5 million. With a number added, it starts at Rs 3 million or Rs 4 million.

How many letters can a Punjab vanity plate have?

At most eight characters, counting spaces. Only capital letters and digits are allowed, with no symbols and no double spaces.

Can I get a vanity plate if my car is on a bank lease?

Not as an individual. Gold and Platinum need a sole owner. Only the Corporate category allows vehicles under a hire purchase agreement.

When is the next Punjab number plate auction?

Series auctions run all month. In October 2026, car series BBN bids on 7 and 8 October, and the last car series, BBS, closes on 1 November. Vanity plate registration is open 24 hours a day.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked on 2 October 2026. We read the Excise Department's vanity plate terms and conditions, dated 10 December 2024, its vanity plates page and poster, and its e-auction schedule for October 2026. We opened the e-auction portal's login page but did not register or bid. Reserve prices for regular series numbers were not on any page we could read, so we have not stated them. If the portal shows a different figure from the terms, the portal's figure at the time you apply is the one that counts.
