GitHub Copilot Free for Students in Pakistan: Apply With University Email or Student Card (2026 Steps)
GitHub Copilot is free for verified students in Pakistan. See who qualifies, the proof GitHub accepts, steps to activate Copilot Student, and fixes if stuck.

GitHub Copilot is free for verified students in Pakistan: apply for GitHub Education at github.com/settings/education/benefits with your university email or a student card showing this term's date, and once approved, activate Copilot Student at no cost. That replaces the $10 a month Pro plan for most student work. Below are the exact requirements, the steps, what the student plan includes, and the fixes when approval or activation stalls.
We read GitHub's documentation on applying to GitHub Education as a student, its page on getting Copilot free as a student, and its Copilot plans page on 24 October 2026. Copilot is GitHub's AI coding assistant. It suggests code as you type in VS Code and other editors, and it can chat about your code or run small tasks as an agent.

Copilot Student is free for any verified student, from school to PhD
GitHub gives Copilot Student free to students verified through GitHub Education. You must be at least 13 and enrolled in a degree or diploma programme, which covers secondary school, college, university and homeschool. There is no country restriction in GitHub's requirements, so Pakistani students qualify.
That is a wider net than most people think. An intermediate student at a government college counts, as does a BS student at any university. GitHub checks your status again every month, so access continues only while you remain a student.
| Plan | Price | Code completions | Models |
|---|---|---|---|
| Copilot Free | $0 | 2,000 a month | Auto selection only |
| Copilot Student | $0 for verified students | Unlimited | Auto selection only |
| Copilot Pro | $10 a month (about Rs 2,768) | Unlimited | A selection of models |
| Copilot Pro+ | $39 a month | Unlimited | A selection of models |
Prices are from GitHub's Copilot plans page. The rupee figure is our arithmetic at the State Bank's rate of Rs 276.82 for 23 October 2026, before bank charges.
What Copilot Student includes, and what it leaves out
Copilot Student gives unlimited code completions, an allowance of GitHub AI Credits, and most agent features, including the cloud agent and code review. It is limited to automatic model selection, and third-party agents are not included.
GitHub does not publish the size of the student AI credit allowance on its plans page. Chat and agent use are "limited", which in practice means heavy agent work can run out before the month does. Completions, the suggestions that appear as you type, never run out on the student plan. For a student writing assignments and final year projects, completions are what you will use most.
Compared with Copilot Free, the student plan removes the 2,000 completions a month cap and adds the cloud agent and fuller code review. Compared with Pro, you lose the choice of models and third-party agents.
What you need before you apply
You need a personal GitHub account, proof that you are enrolled now, and your university email added and verified on GitHub if your institution issues one. Accepted proof includes a student card with a current enrolment date, a class schedule, a transcript or an enrolment letter.
- University email: if your university gives you one, often ending in .edu.pk, add it under your GitHub email settings and verify it first.
- No university email: GitHub asks for official proof that your school does not issue them, such as a school web page or a letter on letterhead.
- Student card: it must show a current enrolment date. An old card from last year will be rejected.
- Unknown email domain: contact GitHub Education Support with your school's full name, website and email domain.
These rules come from GitHub's student application page. Many Pakistani student cards show only an admission year, not a validity date. If yours does, ask the registrar for an enrolment letter for this semester, which is on GitHub's accepted list.

How to apply and activate Copilot Student
Apply in your GitHub Education benefits settings, wait for approval, then activate Copilot Student from the same benefits page. The whole process takes a few minutes of your time, but the benefit itself can take several days to appear after approval.
- Sign in to GitHub and add your university email in email settings, then verify it.
- Open github.com/settings/education/benefits and click Start an application.
- Complete the form, upload your proof, and click Submit application.
- After approval, return to the same page. Under Free GitHub developer resources for students and teachers, click Learn more.
- Follow the prompts to activate Copilot Student and set your Copilot use policies.
- Install the GitHub Copilot extension in VS Code and sign in with the same account.

When Copilot Student does not show up
GitHub says the benefit can take several days to apply after verification. Until then your account may show Copilot Free, a trial or a paid checkout. Do not pay. Wait a few days, try again from your Copilot settings, and contact GitHub Support if it still fails.
That warning matters. A student who clicks the paid checkout by mistake ends up paying $10 a month from a card, which counts against the yearly card limit for international payments. If you already did, cancel in billing settings.
Two other common problems. First, a rejection because the proof had no current date: reapply with a dated document. Second, the email domain is not recognised: write to GitHub Education Support as described above. And never pay a stranger on Facebook or Telegram for a "GitHub student pack". The real one is free from GitHub itself.
Copilot is only one of the free AI tools for students in Pakistan, and the NAVTTC Skills of Tomorrow courses teach AI and freelancing free for ages 18 to 35.
Common questions
Is GitHub Copilot free for students in Pakistan?
Yes. Verified GitHub Education students get Copilot Student at no cost, and GitHub's rules have no country restriction.
Can intermediate or school students get it?
Yes, if they are at least 13 and enrolled. GitHub accepts high school and college students, not only university students.
Do I need a .edu.pk email?
Only if your school issues academic emails. If it does not, GitHub accepts official proof of that policy.
How long does approval take?
GitHub's application page gives no timeline. After approval, the Copilot benefit itself can take several days to appear.
Does Copilot Student expire?
It lasts while you remain a verified student. GitHub reevaluates eligibility every month.
What is the difference between Copilot Student and Pro?
Pro costs $10 a month and lets you choose models and use third-party agents. Student is free with automatic model selection only.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 24 October 2026. We read GitHub's pages on applying to GitHub Education as a student, on accessing Copilot free as a student and on Copilot plans at docs.github.com, and the GitHub Education pack page, on 24 October 2026, plus the State Bank of Pakistan's 23 October 2026 dollar rate. GitHub does not publish the size of the student AI credit allowance or a review timeline. We did not submit an application ourselves.
