Gold Rate Today in Pakistan: Up Rs 7,900 to Rs 457,236, Not a Record
Gold rose Rs 7,900 to Rs 457,236 per tola on 16 September 2026 per the Sarafa association, Rs 8,900 below 1 September. How to check the rate.

Gold rose Rs 7,900 to Rs 457,236 per tola on 16 September 2026, according to the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association rate reported by Business Recorder, 24NewsHD and Aaj TV. Ten grams went up Rs 6,773 to Rs 392,006. International gold gained 79 dollars to 4,347 dollars an ounce. It is a big one day move, and it is not a record: the same rate was Rs 466,136 on 1 September.
A jeweller in Anarkali who quoted a customer on Tuesday and again on Wednesday moved the price by nearly Rs 8,000 a tola between the two conversations. That is the gold rate today in Pakistan, and the size of the jump is why it made the news. What the headlines mostly left out is where it sits in the month.
We could not read the association's own publication. It has no website we could find, and Business Recorder's page for its rates blocked our request. So every figure here is the association's rate as reported, and we say which outlet reported it.
What is the gold rate today in Pakistan?
The 24 karat rate is Rs 457,236 per tola and Rs 392,006 per 10 grams, set on 16 September 2026 and carried into 17 September until the association's next session. Silver is Rs 6,942 a tola, up Rs 140. Those are the figures Business Recorder attributed to the association.
| Rate | 16 September 2026 | Change on the day | Reported by |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24K gold per tola | Rs 457,236 | Up Rs 7,900 | Business Recorder, 24NewsHD, Aaj |
| 24K gold per 10 grams | Rs 392,006 | Up Rs 6,773 | Business Recorder, 24NewsHD |
| 22K gold per tola | Rs 419,466 | Not given | Daily Pakistan, its own conversion |
| International gold | 4,347 dollars an ounce | Up 79 dollars | Business Recorder, Aaj |
| Silver per tola | Rs 6,942 | Up Rs 140 | Business Recorder, 24NewsHD |
The 22 karat figure needs a warning. The association publishes 24 karat. Sites and papers work out 22 karat themselves, usually as 22 parts in 24 of the pure rate. Our own arithmetic on Rs 457,236 gives Rs 419,133, a few hundred rupees under Daily Pakistan's figure, which is the kind of gap rounding produces. A jeweller will quote you something different again once making charges go on top.
Is Rs 457,236 a record gold rate for Pakistan?
No. The association's rate was Rs 466,136 on 1 September, Rs 8,900 higher than today, per Pakistan Observer. It was Rs 461,936 on 18 August. And The Express Tribune reported Rs 572,862 per tola on 29 January 2026 as the highest in the country's history, when international gold was above 5,500 dollars.
Aaj TV's report said gold "continued to register record highs in the global market." The number in the same report, 4,347 dollars, is 89 dollars below the 4,436 dollars Pakistan Observer gave for 1 September. We do not know what Aaj was measuring, so we have not repeated the claim.
What 16 September actually was is a sharp bounce. Gold fell Rs 4,000 on 15 September to Rs 449,336, its lowest point of the month so far, and then recovered nearly twice that in a day. A Rs 7,900 move is large. It is not new ground.
How has gold moved through September 2026?
Down, then a jump. From Rs 466,136 on 1 September the rate slid to Rs 449,336 on 15 September, a fall of Rs 16,800, and the 16 September rise took back Rs 7,900 of that. The month to date is still minus Rs 8,900, or about 1.9 per cent, by our arithmetic.
The dates we could pin to a reported figure:
- 1 September: Rs 466,136, down Rs 1,800, with international gold at 4,436 dollars. Pakistan Observer.
- 7 September: Rs 463,136, down Rs 2,400, at 4,406 dollars. Business Recorder.
- 11 September: a fall of Rs 5,600, which puts the rate near Rs 456,736. Daily Pakistan.
- 12 September: Rs 457,136, up Rs 400. Daily Pakistan.
- 15 September: Rs 449,336, down Rs 4,000. Business Recorder.
- 16 September: Rs 457,236, up Rs 7,900, at 4,347 dollars. Business Recorder, 24NewsHD, Aaj.
The international price fell 89 dollars an ounce over the same sixteen days. The rupee rate fell about 1.9 per cent and the dollar price about 2 per cent, which is what you would expect when the exchange rate is steady. The local rate is, at bottom, the ounce price turned into rupees per tola plus a premium, which is what our explainer of why every gold rate site shows a different price walks through with the arithmetic.
Why did gold jump Rs 7,900 on 16 September?
Because the international price jumped. Business Recorder's report says the local move tracked gains in the international market, where gold rose 79 dollars an ounce. None of the three reports we read gave a reason for the international move itself, so we are not going to invent one.
What we can say is how the arithmetic works. A tola is 11.664 grams and an ounce is 31.103 grams, so a tola is about 0.375 of an ounce. A 79 dollar rise in the ounce is about 30 dollars on a tola. Turn that into rupees at the day's exchange rate and you land in the same region as the Rs 7,900 the association posted. The move is consistent with the ounce price. It is not a Pakistan story.
Whether it holds depends on the same international market tomorrow morning. The last two weeks show the rate can move Rs 4,000 to Rs 8,000 a day in either direction, and a buyer who waited a day on 15 September paid Rs 7,900 more than one who did not. That cuts both ways, and it is the strongest argument for checking the rate on the day rather than the week before.
How do you check the gold rate yourself?
Get the association's rate from a newspaper report that names it, then compare it with two shops before buying. Ask for the rate per tola for 24 karat, ask separately for the making charge, and do not buy against a number from a rate website alone.
- Find the association's rate for the day. Business Recorder, Dawn and 24NewsHD report it most days, and they name the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association when they do. The association sets its rate in Karachi after the morning session.
- Check the date and the time. A rate captured at 11 in the morning and the rate set after the session are different numbers, and websites publish both.
- Convert to what you are buying. The published rate is 24 karat per tola. For 22 karat, take 22 parts in 24. For grams, divide by 11.664.
- Ask the shop for its rate and its making charge as two numbers. The rate should be within a few hundred rupees of the association's. The making charge is where shops differ most.
- Get the karat and the weight on the receipt.
The websites are the weak link. In August we opened three of them within a few minutes of each other and got three different numbers for the same day, about Rs 9,000 apart, which is set out in the August day three sites showed three prices. Today several aggregator pages show Rs 449,700 or Rs 449,800 as the current rate, which is Tuesday's number with Wednesday's date on it. They are not lying. They are stale.
If you are selling, the same rules apply in reverse, with one addition: the shop's buying rate is lower than the association's rate, and the gap is its margin. Ask for it before you hand anything over. The dispute between jewellers and FBR over documentation that we covered in the April market shutdown threat is also why some shops now insist on a CNIC copy for larger transactions.
What should you watch this week?
Two numbers each morning: the ounce price in dollars and the association's rate. If the first moves and the second does not, the second will catch up by the afternoon.
The rate will change again on 17 September when the association's session ends. Everything above will be a day old by then, which is the nature of this page. The figure to hold onto is not Rs 457,236. It is the range, Rs 449,000 to Rs 466,000, that the rate has moved inside all month.

Last checked and sources
Last checked 17 September 2026. We could not read the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association's own publication: we found no website for the association, and Business Recorder's page collecting its rates refused our request, so every rate here is the association's figure as reported. The 16 September rates of Rs 457,236 per tola, Rs 392,006 per 10 grams, 4,347 dollars an ounce and Rs 6,942 for silver, with their daily changes, and the 15 September fall of Rs 4,000 to Rs 449,336, are from Business Recorder, 24NewsHD and Aaj TV on 16 September 2026, each citing the association. The 22 karat figure of Rs 419,466 is Daily Pakistan's own conversion published on 17 September and is labelled as such. The 12 September rate of Rs 457,136 and the Rs 5,600 fall on 11 September are from Daily Pakistan on 13 September. The 7 September rate of Rs 463,136 at 4,406 dollars is from Business Recorder. The 1 September rate of Rs 466,136 and Rs 399,636 per 10 grams at 4,436 dollars is from Pakistan Observer citing the association. The 18 August rate of Rs 461,936 is from our own explainer of that date. The 29 January 2026 rate of Rs 572,862 at 5,504 dollars an ounce, described as the highest in the country's history, is from The Express Tribune. Aaj TV's statement that gold continued to register record highs in the global market on 16 September is contradicted by the 1 September international figure and is not repeated. The month to date change, the implied 10 and 11 September rates, the 22 karat conversion and the dollar per tola arithmetic are our own. No outlet we read gave a reason for the international move, and we give none. The rate changes every trading day, so check the day's reported association rate and two shops before buying or selling.
