GPT-6.1 Terra, the new OpenAI model released on 26 October 2026, works in Pakistan only on paid ChatGPT plans: Plus ($20 a month), Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu. It runs in ChatGPT Work and Codex, not in ordinary Chat, and free and Go users do not get it. Developers can also call it through the API at $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens.

Below is what Terra actually does, where to find it in the app, how many messages each plan gets, what the API costs in a real example, and who should not pay for it yet. We read OpenAI's own launch notes, pricing page and model catalogue on 27 October 2026, Pakistan time.

OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra on 26 October 2026 for work tasks

OpenAI's changelog dates the launch to 26 October 2026. Terra is a fast model built for professional work. It reads images and screens, then acts across your browser, desktop and apps. It is not a replacement for the main chat model.

OpenAI's own short line for the launch is "bringing fast and capable computer use to everyone". In plain words, computer use means the AI can look at a screen and click, type and move between apps for you, inside limits you set. OpenAI's examples are business ones: matching supplier product photos to catalogue entries, and checking campaign images for bad cropping and text placement.

That second example is the one Pakistani marketing teams should notice. Checking 40 ad sizes for a Daraz sale or an 11.11 campaign is slow, dull work. Terra is pitched exactly at that job.

Which ChatGPT plans get GPT-6.1 Terra in Pakistan

Terra comes with Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu, not Free or Go

OpenAI lists Terra for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans. Free and Go plans stay on GPT-6 Luna. The cheapest way to get Terra from Pakistan is ChatGPT Plus at $20 a month, before your bank's charges.

PlanPrice on OpenAI's pageGPT-6.1 Terra?Terra limit
Free$0NoNot included
Go$8 a monthNoNot included
Plus$20 a monthYes35 to 285 messages per 5 hours
ProFrom $100 a monthYesNo 5 hour limit for now
Business$20 a user a month, yearly, or $25 monthlyYes35 to 285 messages per 5 hours
Enterprise and EduContact salesYes, if the admin allows itDepends on the contract

The prices are in US dollars as OpenAI prints them. Your card will be charged in rupees at your bank's rate, plus any foreign transaction fee. The steps for paying for ChatGPT Plus from Pakistan are the same for Terra, since it comes with the plan and has no separate price.

You find Terra under Advanced in the desktop app or in ChatGPT Work

Terra does not appear in the normal Chat model menu. Open the ChatGPT desktop app and pick it from the model list under Advanced, or open ChatGPT Work on the web. Work also supports Terra on mobile.

  1. Update the ChatGPT desktop app to the latest version.
  2. Sign in with your Plus, Pro or Business account.
  3. Open Work, or open the model list and choose Advanced.
  4. Select GPT-6.1 Terra.
  5. Give it a task with a clear end point, such as "check these 12 banner images for cut off text".
  6. Approve any browser or computer access only for the apps the task needs.

Codex users need Codex CLI version 0.159.0 or later, according to OpenAI's models page. Browser use and computer use each have their own setup and access rules, so a business account may need the admin to switch them on first.

Plus users get 35 to 285 Terra messages every five hours

OpenAI's pricing page gives Plus and standard Business users 35 to 285 Terra messages in each five hour period. Those are estimates, and weekly limits may also apply. Pro has no five hour cap at present.

The range is wide because a long computer use task eats far more of your allowance than a short question. A task that opens five browser tabs and reads 30 images will burn through it quickly. The same five hour window works for the other GPT-6 models, which we set out plan by plan in the GPT-6 usage limits for each plan.

The Terra API costs $1 per million input tokens and $5 for output

On the API, OpenAI lists gpt-6.1-terra at $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens. It has a 1.05 million token context window and up to 128,000 output tokens. Reasoning effort runs from none to max.

A token is a small piece of a word. Here is a worked example for a Lahore agency that writes product descriptions. Say it sends 1,000 requests, each with 2,000 tokens in and 500 tokens out. That is 2 million input tokens, costing $2, and 500,000 output tokens, costing $2.50. The total is $4.50 for the whole batch. That is our arithmetic from OpenAI's listed prices.

Pakistan is on OpenAI's list of supported countries for the API, so a Pakistani developer can sign up directly. The wider price list for the GPT-6 family is in the GPT-6 API prices per million tokens.

Skip Terra if you only chat, write or study in ChatGPT

Terra is not available in Chat, so a student or casual user gains nothing from it. If you only ask questions, write essays or translate, the free or Go plan is enough. Pay for Plus only if you have screen based work to hand over.

Good fits are repetitive office jobs: checking product images against a sheet, filling the same web form for many records, or reading screenshots of reports. A bad fit is anything involving your bank, your JazzCash or Easypaisa account, or a government portal with your CNIC. Do not give an AI agent control of a screen where money moves or where your identity is at stake. One wrong click there is your loss, not OpenAI's.

There is a quieter catch. OpenAI says Terra does not support UAE inference residency. That matters to Pakistani firms working for Gulf clients who require data to stay in the UAE. If your contract says that, Terra is off the table for that client.

Common questions

Is GPT-6.1 Terra free in Pakistan?

No. Terra comes only with Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans. Free and Go users stay on GPT-6 Luna.

Can I use Terra in normal ChatGPT chat?

No. OpenAI says Terra is not available in Chat. Use it in ChatGPT Work, in the desktop app under Advanced, or in Codex.

How many Terra messages does ChatGPT Plus give?

OpenAI estimates 35 to 285 messages every five hours for Plus, with possible weekly limits on top. Long computer use tasks use more of the allowance.

Does Terra work on my phone?

Yes, through ChatGPT Work on mobile. The model picker under Advanced is in the desktop app.

Do I need a VPN to use Terra from Pakistan?

No. Pakistan is on OpenAI's supported country list. A VPN can actually trigger extra security checks, so leave it off.

Is Terra better than GPT-6.1 Sol?

They do different jobs. OpenAI describes Sol as near Astra level for complex work, and Terra as a fast model for writing, visual understanding and computer use.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read OpenAI's What's new note for 26 to 30 October 2026, its changelog entry dated 26 October 2026, its ChatGPT pricing and limits page, its Codex models page, and its API model catalogue on 27 October 2026 between 00:30 and 01:45 PKT. We also read OpenAI's supported countries list, which includes Pakistan. We could not open OpenAI's full launch post, which refused our connection, so OpenAI's benchmark claims are not covered here. We did not test Terra ourselves. Rupee prices are not given because OpenAI publishes dollar prices and banks apply their own rate.
