You can pay for ChatGPT from Pakistan on chatgpt.com with a card that allows international online payments. OpenAI lists PKR as a billing currency for web subscriptions, and Apple or Google Play bill in local currency. We could not read OpenAI's list of payment methods.

Many people in Pakistan ask whether a normal debit card works for ChatGPT Plus, Go or Pro. We read OpenAI's help pages on 22 October 2026 to find out what OpenAI itself says. Pakistan is on OpenAI's list of supported countries, so no VPN is needed to sign up. The open question is the payment method, and we are open about where our reading stopped.

OpenAI lists PKR as a billing currency for web subscriptions

OpenAI's multi-currency billing page includes the Pakistani rupee in its list of supported currencies. It applies to subscriptions bought on chatgpt.com. Subscriptions bought in the iPhone or Android app are billed by Apple or Google in your local currency.

Three ways to pay for ChatGPT from Pakistan: web, Apple and Google Play

OpenAI's Go page adds that Go purchases are in US dollars, with local billing in a limited set of countries. That page points to the multi-currency list. Because both pages are general, check the amount and currency on the checkout screen before you confirm. If it is in dollars, your bank converts it.

The payment methods section of OpenAI's page did not load for us

The multi-currency page has a "Payment methods" heading, but its content did not appear when we read it. So we cannot tell you from OpenAI's own page whether a PayPak debit card, a prepaid card or a virtual card is accepted. Anyone who says so with certainty has not shown a source.

What is safe to say: a standard Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card is the usual route. Whether your card works depends on your bank allowing foreign online payments, not on OpenAI. The only real test is the checkout page.

Your bank decides whether the card goes through

Pakistani banks often block foreign online payments by default. Switch on international and online use in your bank app first. The steps are in managing online and international payments on your debit card.

If you have no suitable card, some readers use a digital account card. See the fees in JazzCash debit and virtual card fees, and the options in virtual cards for paying in dollars. We have not tested any of them with OpenAI's checkout.

The State Bank limits how much you can spend abroad on cards in a year. Read the yearly USD 30,000 card limit if you also pay for other tools. Tax on foreign card payments is explained in tax on card payments abroad.

Plus and Pro are billed monthly with no annual option

OpenAI says Plus is $20 a month, billed monthly. For Pro it says billing is monthly only, with no annual or multi-month payment. At about Rs 277 to the dollar, Plus is about Rs 5,540 before bank fees and tax. Business has an annual option for teams.

Billing rules for ChatGPT Plus and Pro

If a renewal fails, OpenAI says that does not by itself end the subscription. For web subscriptions, follow the payment recovery link in the billing email. For Apple or Google, fix the payment in the store settings.

  1. Switch on international online payments in your bank app.
  2. Sign in to ChatGPT, open your profile icon, then Upgrade Plan.
  3. Choose Plus, or one of the Pro tiers from the pricing page.
  4. Read the currency and amount on the checkout screen.
  5. Pay, then check your bank statement for the rate and any tax.

Cancel and refund routes follow where you bought

You cancel through the place you subscribed: ChatGPT, Apple or Google Play. Uninstalling the app does not cancel it. A scheduled cancellation keeps access until the billing period ends. Refunds depend on your purchase and local law, and cancelling alone does not refund earlier charges.

OpenAI says Plus refunds are typically processed within 5 to 10 business days after approval. If you were charged but still see the Free plan, check you are signed in to the right account, restore purchases in the app, and contact support with the receipt.

Common questions about paying for ChatGPT from Pakistan

Can I pay for ChatGPT with a Pakistani debit card?

Usually yes, if your bank allows international online payments. OpenAI's page that lists accepted methods did not load for us, so test at checkout.

Does OpenAI bill in rupees?

OpenAI lists PKR for web subscriptions. Check the currency on the checkout screen, because Go purchases are described as USD in most countries.

Is ChatGPT Plus cheaper in the app?

We cannot say. Apple and Google set their own local prices. Compare the amounts before you buy.

Do I need a VPN to subscribe?

No. Pakistan is on OpenAI's supported countries list.

Can I pay for ChatGPT a year ahead?

Not for Plus or Pro. OpenAI says annual and multi-month payment is not available for them.

What if I was charged but I am still on Free?

Check the account email, restore purchases in the app, sign out and in, then contact OpenAI with the receipt.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 22 October 2026. We read OpenAI's multi-currency billing page, its ChatGPT Plus page, its Go page, its Pro tiers page and its supported countries page. The payment methods section of the billing page did not load, so we do not list accepted methods. We did not make a purchase. Rupee figures are our arithmetic from the State Bank of Pakistan's 22 October rate of about 277.
