IELTS Fee in Pakistan 2026: Rs 75,600 for Academic, Rs 78,820 for UKVI

The IELTS fee in Pakistan is Rs 75,600 for IELTS Academic or General Training on computer in Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar and most other cities, and Rs 76,240 in Lahore, Faisalabad and the rest of central Punjab. IELTS for UKVI costs Rs 78,820 on the live booking lists, and a One Skill Retake costs Rs 48,050 at IDP.

British Council Pakistan says these fees took effect on 9 June 2026. IDP Pakistan, the other official partner, charges the same amounts, so the city and test type set the fee, not the provider.

IELTS fee in Pakistan by test type in 2026

IELTS Academic and General Training cost the same: Rs 75,600 or Rs 76,240, depending on the city. IELTS for UKVI, the version the UK asks for in some visa cases, costs Rs 78,820. IELTS Life Skills A1 or B1 costs Rs 53,000.

Gujrat is the one city where the two partners differ. British Council puts it in the Rs 76,240 group, while IDP lists Gujrat at Rs 75,600. If you live near Gujrat, compare both booking screens.

One thing does not match. British Council's booking page table still shows Rs 72,000 for UKVI and Rs 50,000 for Life Skills. Its own October 2026 date listings, and IDP's fee table, both show Rs 78,820 and Rs 53,000. Plan for the higher amount, because that is what the booking screen charges for real dates.

How to book the IELTS test in Pakistan

Book online with British Council or IDP, or at an IDP branch. You need a valid passport, and you pay by card online or, with British Council, by bank transfer or cash deposit. British Council confirms your seat by email within 3 days of payment.

1. Choose the test. Most universities want Academic. Migration and work cases usually want General Training, and some UK visas need IELTS for UKVI.
2. Pick British Council or IDP, then a city, date and time on their booking site.
3. Enter your name exactly as it appears on your passport. IDP asks you to upload a clean colour scan or photo of the passport.
4. Pay the fee. British Council takes cards online, interbank transfer (IBFT) and cash deposit at Standard Chartered or MCB branches. IDP asks for a credit card online.
5. Wait for the confirmation email, then check your details in the test taker portal.

British Council says the payment must reach it within 3 days of registration and at least 3 days before your first exam. If your chosen date is full, it moves you to your next preferred date or the soonest free one. If you want to pay by bank transfer, having your IBAN and account details ready makes the transfer quicker.

A passport is the ID to use. If yours is close to expiry, sort out the passport renewal before you book, because the name on the booking must match the document you bring.

IELTS test centres and paper tests in Pakistan

British Council runs IELTS on computer in 20 cities, from Swat and Mardan to Sukkur and Quetta. IELTS on paper is now only for candidates with approved medical needs, and IELTS for UKVI on paper stopped on 1 October 2024.

• North: Abbottabad, Gujrat, Islamabad, Peshawar, Mirpur, Mardan, Swat.
• Centre: Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Lahore, Multan, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin.
• South: Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Quetta.

IELTS for UKVI on computer runs in fewer places: Abbottabad, Gujrat, Islamabad, Peshawar, Mirpur, Gujranwala, Lahore, Multan, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Karachi and Hyderabad. Life Skills runs in Islamabad, Mirpur, Lahore and Karachi, and British Council offers it by video call at an official centre in Islamabad and Mirpur.

IDP lists centres in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujrat, Lahore, Faisalabad and Karachi. Ignore anyone selling a seat, a "guaranteed" band or a cheaper fee outside the two official sites. The warning signs match those for checking an education agent.

When IELTS results come out

IELTS on computer results usually arrive in 1 to 2 days at British Council. IDP says computer results typically come within 2 days. Life Skills takes up to 9 days, and a One Skill Retake result takes 3 to 5 days at IDP.

You see the result in the test taker portal first. For computer tests, British Council issues an electronic Test Report Form (e-TRF) that you can download for two years. Hard copies are only for exceptional cases, for a fee.

If your score looks wrong, you can ask for a remark, called an Enquiry on Results (EOR). British Council charges Rs 39,650 for IELTS on computer, Rs 41,000 for UKVI and Rs 27,550 for Life Skills. The fee comes back if any section score goes up. A remark result can take from the same day to 21 days.

One Skill Retake, refunds and date changes

A One Skill Retake lets you resit one part, such as Writing, instead of all four. You must have taken IELTS on computer, and you must sit the retake within 60 days. You get one retake per full test.

British Council's refund rules are strict. Cancel 15 or more days before the test and you get 75% back, because a 25% admin fee is kept. Cancel within 14 days and there is no refund. A date transfer is free 15 or more days ahead, costs 25% within 5 to 14 days, and is not allowed under 5 days.

IDP's cut-off is 5 weeks. Cancel or postpone more than 5 weeks before the test and you get a refund minus an admin fee. Inside 5 weeks you pay the full fee, unless you have a serious medical reason and send a medical certificate within 5 days of the test date.

So book when you are ready, not to hold a date. If you are aiming for the Chevening scholarship, work back from its English deadline.
