How to Apply for a New K-Electric Connection in Karachi
Apply for a new K-Electric connection in Karachi: the free form, the documents, the Rs 1,220 per kW deposit, the 30 day limit for homes and how to track a case.

To get a new K-Electric connection in Karachi, download K-Electric's free new connection form, attach your CNIC, ownership papers and a Rs 200 stamp paper affidavit, and submit it with the initial payment. You get a Case ID to track the request on new-connections.ke.com.pk. For a home up to 15 kW, NEPRA's manual gives the company 30 days after full payment.
Karachi and Hub are not on the portal that HESCO, PESCO and the other state companies use. K-Electric runs its own form and tracking site.
We read K-Electric's new connections page, its application form updated in September 2026 and the NEPRA manual it publishes, on 3 October 2026. We did not file an application ourselves.
Documents K-Electric asks for
A house or flat needs four basic papers: a valid CNIC, an ownership document, a witness's CNIC and an affidavit on Rs 200 stamp paper. Originals are shown, copies kept. Tenants, companies and shops need extra papers, listed on page 3 of the form.
| Document | Who needs it | Note from the form |
|---|---|---|
| CNIC copy of the applicant | Everyone | Bring the original for checking, or an attested copy |
| Ownership document copy | Everyone | Original shown for checking, or an attested copy |
| Affidavit on Rs 200 stamp paper | Everyone | Notary attested, every page attested |
| Completion plan or approved building plan | Homes and shops | SBCA areas need the completion plan with certificate |
| NOC from DHA or your housing society | Where it applies | DHA Phase VII extension, VIII and VIII extension named |
| Landlord NOC, landlord CNIC and tenancy agreement | Tenants | The owner also signs a stamp paper for unpaid dues |
| NTN certificate and active ATL status | Commercial and industrial | Not needed for a house |

The approved plan matters. Sindh Building Control Authority areas need a completion plan, so a house still being built waits. If you are still at the plan stage, getting a building plan approved by the SBCA comes first.
A notary, an oath commissioner or a government or elected office holder with a stamp can attest your copies.
How to apply for a K-Electric connection
Download the form from K-Electric's new connections page, fill it in, attach the papers and submit it with the initial payment. K-Electric then issues a Case ID. You can also start the request on the KE Live app, which K-Electric lists as a registration channel.
- Download the free "Application Form for New Connection" from ke.com.pk/new-connections. The form itself says it is free of cost.
- Tick "New Connection", then fill in the owner's details, the site address and a nearby meter or consumer number.
- Choose the unit type (residential, commercial, industrial, agriculture or EV charging station), the meter type and the total load in kW.
- Attach the documents and submit the form with the initial payment. Keep the Case ID you receive.
- Pay the estimate and security deposit once K-Electric sends them, then get a wiring Test Form from a licensed Electric Inspector of Karachi contractor and submit it at your nearest customer experience centre.

The Test Form is the step people forget. It certifies that your internal wiring is safe. Only connections above 80 kW can do this on K-Electric's online EIK portal.
What a new K-Electric connection costs
You pay two things: the estimate for the work and a security deposit. The amount depends on your load and how far the network has to reach. K-Electric has a cost calculator online and gives a full breakup with each estimate.
The deposit rates sit in Annexure IV of NEPRA's Consumer Service Manual, which K-Electric publishes.
| Connection type | Security deposit in the manual |
|---|---|
| Residential, urban | Rs 1,220 per kW |
| Residential, rural | Rs 610 per kW |
| Commercial, urban | Rs 1,810 per kW |
| Commercial, rural | Rs 920 per kW |
| Agricultural tubewell | Rs 15,000 lump sum |
So a 5 kW house in the city would carry a deposit of about Rs 6,100 under the manual's rate. Treat that as a guide. The figure on your own estimate is the one that counts. The deposit is returned or adjusted when the connection is closed, which is how a security deposit refund works later.
The manual also allows the demand notice to be paid in instalments on request, with no markup.
Pay only through the official channels
K-Electric never takes cash. Pay the estimate and deposit at a listed bank branch, a customer experience centre booth, internet or mobile banking, or 1Bill. Report anyone asking for cash to speakup@ke.com.pk, as the form tells you to.
The new connections page lists 23 banks for app payment. For 1Bill, add the prefix 100536 before your application number.
A man at your door offering a "fast track" for cash is not part of this process. K-Electric says it is not liable for any money paid to an individual.

How long a K-Electric connection takes
For a home or shop up to 15 kW, NEPRA's manual allows 30 days in total: 4 days for registration and survey, 6 for the estimate, 11 for the work and 9 for the meter. The clock starts after full payment.

K-Electric's ease of doing business page shows a 58 day path. Those figures match the manual's limits for loads above 70 kW, so they describe larger cases, not a house.
If the company misses the deadline, the manual says it must explain each day of delay in writing to you, with a copy to NEPRA. The newer NEPRA service deadlines set a daily compensation figure too, but that compensation clause only starts two years after August 2026.

Why K-Electric rejects an application
The form lists seven rejection reasons. The common ones are unpaid dues on the property, a building still under construction, business activity at a site applied for as residential, and nobody present for the survey. Clear these before you apply.
- Outstanding dues on the premises, even from an old owner.
- The premises is under construction.
- Commercial activity where a residential meter is requested.
- The plot has been merged with another plot.
- Survey blocked, or no one available at the site for it.
- Information that turns out to be wrong, invalid or misrepresented.
The last one has teeth. K-Electric can disconnect a connection later if the papers prove false, after seven working days' notice. A shop on a house meter needs a tariff change, not a fresh meter.
Housing societies and multi-storey projects need a design book from one of 18 consultants K-Electric lists.
Common questions
Can I apply for a K-Electric connection online?
Partly. You can register through the KE Live app and track the case online, but the form, documents and initial payment are still submitted to K-Electric, and the wiring Test Form goes to a customer experience centre.
Is the K-Electric new connection form free?
Yes. The form is a free download on ke.com.pk, and the form itself prints "This form is free of cost". Nobody should charge you for it.
How do I track my K-Electric new connection?
Sign up on new-connections.ke.com.pk with your Case ID and set a password. You can also call 118 or write to customer.care@ke.com.pk with the Case ID.
Can a tenant get a new K-Electric connection?
Yes, with the owner's consent. K-Electric's checklist asks for the landlord's NOC, CNIC and tenancy agreement, and NEPRA's manual adds that the owner signs a stamp paper accepting responsibility for any unpaid bills of the tenant.
How much is the security deposit for a K-Electric house connection?
NEPRA's manual lists Rs 1,220 per kW for an urban house, so a 5 kW connection is about Rs 6,100. Your estimate shows the exact figure.
What if K-Electric takes longer than 30 days?
Complain on 118 first. If that fails, take it to NEPRA, which handles K-Electric complaints after the company's own channel.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked on 3 October 2026. The application route, free form, Case ID, payment channels, 1Bill prefix and consultant list are read on K-Electric's new connections and ease of doing business pages. The document checklist, Rs 200 affidavit, Test Form step, rejection reasons and no cash warning are read on K-Electric's application form, updated September 2026, a scanned PDF we read page by page. The 80 kW EIK limit is read on K-Electric's EIK portal page. The deposit rates, the 30 day timeline, the no escalation rule and the instalment rule are read in the NEPRA Consumer Service Manual published by K-Electric. We opened the tracking portal. We did not apply, and the cost calculator loads only in a browser.
