Kal Chutti Hai Ya Nahi: Next Holiday in Pakistan and How to Check Any Notice (2026 List)
Kal chutti hai ya nahi? The next public holiday in Pakistan is Monday 9 November 2026. See every date left, which are optional and how to check a notice fast.

The next public holiday in Pakistan is Monday 9 November 2026, Allama Iqbal Day. Monday 26 October is not a public holiday: it is only an optional holiday for Guru Valmik Swami Ji's birthday, which Hindu staff may take with their office's permission. After 9 November, the next holidays are Friday 25 December for everyone and Saturday 26 December for Christians.
"Kal chutti hai ya nahi" is one of the most searched questions in Pakistan the night before any rumoured holiday, and the answer on WhatsApp is often wrong. We read the Cabinet Division's 2026 holiday circular and its latest notices on 24 October 2026. Below is every date left this year, and a quick way to check any holiday message yourself before you skip work or keep a child home.
The next public holiday in Pakistan is Monday 9 November 2026
Allama Iqbal Day on Monday 9 November is the next date when federal offices and banks close, under the Cabinet Division circular of 19 January 2026. Between now and then there is no public holiday, and the Cabinet Division had issued no extra holiday notice when we checked on 24 October 2026.

An optional holiday is not a chutti for everyone
Optional holidays are personal, not office-wide. The Cabinet Division circular says a government servant needs the head of office's prior permission and gets one optional holiday a year if Muslim, or three if non-Muslim. Offices, schools and banks stay open on those days.
So on Monday 26 October, Guru Valmik Swami Ji's birthday, the office is open. A Hindu employee who asked in advance may be off. Everyone else works. The same applies to Guru Nanak Dev Ji's birthday on 24 November.
This is where many "holiday tomorrow" messages go wrong. They copy the optional list and drop the word "optional".
Check any holiday message in five steps
A real holiday comes from a named office with a notification number, a date and a signing officer. Federal holidays come from the Cabinet Division, bank closures from the State Bank, provincial ones from the province, and local ones from a deputy commissioner. Anything without those details is a rumour until confirmed.
- Open the Cabinet Division public holidays page and look at the newest file.
- For banks, check the State Bank's press releases for a closure notice.
- For a province or district, look for a notice from the provincial government or deputy commissioner, with a number.
- For school, read the school's own message or the education department's notice.
- If none of these carry it, do not act on the forward.

The tell-tale signs of a fake notice, such as an old date, a missing number or a wrong letterhead, are listed in checking a viral government notice.
October's "14, 15 and 16 October holiday" had no notification
Earlier this month a message claimed holidays on 14, 15 and 16 October 2026. The Cabinet Division's holiday page and latest notices showed nothing for those dates, and offices stayed open. It is a clean example of why a forwarded image is not enough.
We covered that claim in no public holiday on 14, 15 or 16 October. The same pattern will repeat before 9 November: an old notice from another year, re-shared with the date blurred.
One real example of a sudden closure exists. In December 2025 the Cabinet Division first said 26 December was a working day, then closed Islamabad's federal offices that day by a notice issued on 25 December. Real changes do happen at short notice, but they come with a signed notification.
Local, school and smog closures come from different offices
A district can close for a local urs, a province can add its own day, and schools can close for weather or smog. None of these comes from the Cabinet Division. Each has its own issuing office, and each applies only to its own area.
- Sindh: provincial days such as 29 July 2026 for Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai's urs, and two local holidays a year in each district, as set out in Sindh holidays 2026.
- Punjab smog: school closures for smog come by order of the provincial government. Where they appear is explained in checking if Punjab schools are closed for smog. We found no 2026 smog closure order when we checked on 24 October.
- Colleges and universities: fake closure notices hit these first. See checking a college closure notice in Punjab.

How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
We read the Cabinet Division's 2026 holiday circular, its holidays page and its latest notices list on 24 October 2026, around 6 am PKT, and the State Bank press releases, whose newest item was dated 17 October 2026. We could not open the Punjab and Sindh education department sites that morning, so school-level closures beyond those named here are not confirmed. This page answers the question as of that morning; a notice issued later will not be reflected until we update it.
