Short answer: Mobile phone signals and mobile internet were reported cut across large parts of Peshawar from the night of Wednesday 7 October 2026, and were reported restored on 10 October. On 11 October, mobile networks and PTCL internet were reported suspended in Swabi. PTA has not published a notice about either suspension.

A shopkeeper in Peshawar cannot take a card payment. A parent cannot reach a school. A student cannot open an online form that closes today. That is what a suspension looks like on the ground, and it began in Peshawar with no announcement.

We read reports of the suspension from 8 to 12 October 2026 and checked PTA's own press release page on 12 October. We could not confirm the position in Swabi ourselves, because we have no one on the ground there. Everything about the two districts below is marked as reported.

Peshawar lost mobile service for about two days

Reports say the suspension began on Wednesday night, 7 October, with no public notice. By Thursday 8 October, mobile calls and mobile internet were down across large parts of Peshawar, on the day a PTI march was due to enter the city.

A PTA official told reporters the authority acted on directions from higher authorities and called the step temporary, a security precaution for the march. The provincial government issued no statement, according to the same reports. By Friday 9 October, only the cantonment area was said to have coverage. A report dated 10 October says service was restored after two days.

Swabi was reported cut on 11 October

A report dated 11 October says mobile phone networks and PTCL internet services stayed suspended across Swabi, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. That report ties the cut to the emergency and governor's rule imposed in the province the same day and to the PTI march expected in the district.

This one is different from Peshawar in a way that matters. PTCL is a fixed-line internet company. So home internet on PTCL was reported cut too, not only mobile data. A family that normally falls back on home Wi-Fi when the phone signal fails would have no fallback.

We could not find a report of when service returned in Swabi. If you live there, treat the position as unknown until your operator or PTA says otherwise.

PTA has not published a notice

We opened PTA's press release page on 12 October 2026. It listed no notice on a suspension in Peshawar or Swabi. The newest item shown was dated 29 September, and the page did not list a PTA release of 10 October that we know exists, so the page may run behind.

Under the consumer rules we read for PTA's 15-day notice and 4-hour restore rules, an operator must warn you before it suspends your own service. Those rules deal with an operator's decision about your connection, such as unpaid dues or a planned upgrade. We found nothing in them that says how a government order to cut a whole area is handled, and we could not confirm that the 15-day notice applies to it.

In September, before this march began, the question was already whether mobile internet would be cut around Islamabad as well. Reports of this march also place earlier signal cuts at Mattani and in Khyber district, before Peshawar.

What still works when mobile signals are cut

Landline calls, home Wi-Fi from a broadband company that was not suspended, and Wi-Fi calling from a working connection still work. Mobile data, mobile calls and any bank app that needs a mobile signal do not. Plan the day around that.

  1. Use a landline or a fixed broadband line for calls where you have one.
  2. If your home Wi-Fi is on a different company from PTCL, turn on Wi-Fi calling on Jazz, Zong or Ufone so your normal number rings over Wi-Fi.
  3. Draw cash before you travel into an affected area. ATMs and card machines may need a signal to complete a payment.
  4. Tell family where you will be at fixed times, since a call may not go through.
  5. Save any forms and download documents you need while a connection is still working.

Our guide on what still works when mobile internet is suspended goes through payments, calls and messages in more detail.

Five steps to prepare when mobile signals are cut in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

What you can report and to whom

If your own line stays dead after an area is declared restored, complain to your operator first and get a complaint number. If that fails, file with PTA. A government-ordered cut itself is a matter for the authority that ordered it, not for your operator.

Keep a note of the date, the hours without service and any SMS you received. That record helps a complaint after restoration. Our guide on how to complain about your mobile network to PTA shows the screens, and complaining about slow or dead internet covers internet faults.

Common questions

Is mobile internet still suspended in Peshawar?

A report dated 10 October says service was restored after two days. We could not verify the position on 12 October ourselves, so check with your own operator if your line is still down.

Is mobile service suspended in Swabi?

A report dated 11 October says mobile networks and PTCL internet stayed suspended across Swabi. We could not confirm when service returned.

Who ordered the suspension?

A PTA official told reporters the authority acted on directions from higher authorities. We found no published order, and the provincial government issued no statement in the reports we read.

Can I get a refund for the days without service?

We found no rule that sets a refund for a government-ordered cut. A prepaid package is usually counted in days, so ask your operator in writing whether it will extend the validity, and keep the reply.

Does the 15-day notice rule apply here?

The rule we read covers an operator suspending your service. It does not say how an order for a whole area is handled, and we could not confirm that it applies.

Will Wi-Fi calling work in an affected area?

It works only over a Wi-Fi connection that is itself working. If your broadband runs on PTCL in Swabi, it was reported cut as well.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked on 12 October 2026. We read PTA's press releases page on that date and found no notice on these suspensions. The dates and places above come from news reports, which we have not matched against any operator statement. We could not read an official order. The position can change within hours.
