The official NA-77 Gujranwala-I and PP-203 Sahiwal-VI by-election results will appear as Form-47 on the ECP's by-elections page, ecp.gov.pk/bye-elections-2024. Under rule 84 of the Election Rules 2017, each Returning Officer must send the scanned Form-47 to the Election Commission by 2 am on Monday 9 November. Anything shared before that is unofficial.

Polling closes at 5 pm today, Sunday 8 November 2026. This guide shows where each result form appears, in what order, and what can delay the NA-77 result in particular, after the ECP said on 7 November it could be withheld.

Check the NA-77 and PP-203 result on the ECP website

Open the ECP by-elections page and look under the NA-77 Gujranwala-I and PP-203 Sahiwal-VI headings. Form-47, the provisional result, is added there after counting. It is free and needs no login.

  1. Type ecp.gov.pk/bye-elections-2024 in your browser. The page is named for 2024 but lists the 2026 by-elections too.
  2. Find the heading Bye-Elections (NA-77 Gujranwala-I) or Bye-Elections (PP-203 Sahiwal-VI).
  3. Look for a new link named Form-47. On 8 November it lists only Form-28, Form-33 and the draft list of polling stations.
  4. Open the PDF. It is usually a scan in Urdu, with each candidate's votes, the total votes cast and the turnout.
  5. For the station-by-station count, look for Form-45 links, which the ECP posts as the results arrive.

The NA-168 Bahawalpur by-election in September shows the pattern. Its Form-47 appeared on the same page the day after polling, with Forms 45 to 49 later. Our NA-168 result page was written from that Form-47.

Five steps to check the NA-77 and PP-203 by-election result as Form-47 on the ECP website

Result forms arrive in a fixed order

The result moves through four ECP forms. Form-45 comes from each polling station, Form-47 is the Returning Officer's provisional total, and Form-49 is the final consolidated result. The winner's name is then notified.

The 2 am and 10 am deadlines are in rule 84 of the Election Rules 2017, which we read in the ECP's copy updated to 31 December 2023. Our guide to Forms 45, 47 and 49 explains how to read each form.

NA-77 has 11 candidates and PP-203 has 7

According to the ECP's Form-33 lists, 11 candidates are standing in NA-77 Gujranwala-I and 7 in PP-203 Sahiwal-VI. Both seats fell vacant on the deaths of PML-N members.

Comparison of NA-77 Gujranwala-I and PP-203 Sahiwal-VI: candidates, registered voters and polling stations

Three things can delay the NA-77 result

The NA-77 notification can be held up by the ECP's notice to a federal minister, by a recount request, or by late Form-45s from polling stations. A delay in notification does not stop the count.

The ECP notice of 7 November

The ECP said the NA-77 result can be withheld until it decides an alleged code of conduct breach by Federal Minister Atta Ullah Tarar. We explain what that means in our report on the ECP notice on NA-77. The notice does not cover PP-203.

A recount

Under Section 95(5) of the Elections Act 2017, the Returning Officer must recount once, on a written request, if the winning margin is under 5 per cent of votes polled or 8,000 votes for a National Assembly seat, whichever is less. For a Punjab Assembly seat the vote figure is 4,000.

Late station results

If results are incomplete at 2 am, rule 84 asks the Returning Officer to send what he has, list the stations still awaited and give reasons in writing.

Unofficial results and what to trust

Counts posted by party workers or polling agents are unofficial until they match a Form-45. Polling agents are entitled to a signed copy of Form-45 at each station, which is the best early check.

  • Trust Form-45 and Form-47 on ecp.gov.pk over any screenshot.
  • Compare totals: valid votes plus excluded ballots should equal votes cast.
  • Report problems to the ECP helpline, 051-111-327-000, which stays open until results arrive.

Our page on polling agents' rights explains who gets Form-45 and when.
