NBP pays 10.00% a year on PLS Savings, Asaan Savings and Premium Saver balances up to Rs 10 million, and 9.50% above that. Its PLS term deposits pay 8.00% to 9.00%, while the monthly profit NBP Itmenan deposit pays 11.70% for one year. Those are the figures on National Bank of Pakistan's latest published rate sheet, effective 1 August 2026, plus its notice that changed the savings tiers from 1 September 2026.

We read both documents on NBP's indicative profit rates page on 1 November 2026. Below is every savings tier, every term deposit and certificate, what Rs 1 million earns, and why the savings figure may move again this month.

NBP savings accounts pay 10.00% up to Rs 10 million

NBP pays individuals 10.00% a year on its main savings accounts when the monthly average balance is Rs 10 million or less. Above Rs 10 million the rate drops to 9.50%. Profit on these accounts is paid every six months, which gives an effective yearly rate of 10.25%.

The Rs 10 million line comes from NBP's notice of 22 September 2026. It says the profit criteria for rupee savings accounts changed from 1 September. The same split now applies to nine account types, from PLS Savings to the DCS Pension Savings Account.

NBP accountUp to Rs 10 millionAbove Rs 10 million
PLS Savings Account10.00%9.50%
NBP Premium Saver10.00%9.50%

Workers' Foree Remittance Saving Account10.00%9.60%
Saving Account (Army JCO and Soldier)10.00%9.50%
DCS Pension Savings Account10.00%9.50%

The Workers' Foree account shows how the notice changed things. The August sheet listed it at 10.10% for everyone. From 1 September it pays 10.00% up to Rs 10 million and 9.60% above. NBP Asaan Savings and NIDA appear on the August sheet at 10.00% too, but the September notice does not list them, so their tiers above Rs 10 million are not published.

NBP Izafi Munafa pays monthly profit at 10.00% to 10.05%

NBP Izafi Munafa is the savings account to pick if you want profit every month instead of every six months. It pays 10.00% up to Rs 1 million and 10.05% from Rs 1 million to Rs 10 million, then 9.55% and 9.50% on larger balances.

Here are the four tiers from the September notice. Monthly payout compounds faster, so the August sheet shows effective yearly rates of 10.47% and 10.53% on the first two tiers.

Izafi Munafa balanceRate a year
Up to Rs 1,000,00010.00%
Above Rs 1 million to Rs 10 million10.05%
Above Rs 10 million to Rs 50 million9.55%
Above Rs 50 million9.50%

Current accounts that earn profit sit lower. NBP's non-MDR remunerative checking deposits pay 8.01% below Rs 100 million, rising to 8.76% from Rs 1 billion. MDR means the minimum deposit rate that SBP requires, so non-MDR accounts are the ones outside that rule.

NBP PLS term deposits pay 8.00% to 9.00%

NBP's plain PLS term deposit receipts pay 8.00% for three or six months, 8.50% for one year and 9.00% for five years, with profit every six months. That is below the 10.00% savings rate, so a short PLS deposit earns less than a savings account at NBP.

PLS term depositRate a yearEffective yearly rate
3 months8.00%8.16%
6 months8.00%8.16%
1 year8.50%8.68%
2 years8.60%8.78%
3 years8.65%8.84%
4 years8.75%8.94%
5 years and above9.00%9.20%

That gap is the single most useful thing on this sheet. If your money sits in a PLS term deposit for a year at 8.50%, you are earning 1.5 points less than the savings account down the hall. The Special Notice Term Deposit, for 7 to 30 days' notice, also pays 8.00%.

NBP Itmenan, Aamdani and Plus certificates pay more

NBP's named deposit schemes pay well above the plain PLS deposit. NBP Itmenan pays 11.70% for one year with monthly profit, NBP Premium Aamdani Certificates pay 9.80% to 10.00% monthly, and the NBP Plus Term Deposit Certificate pays 10.05% to 10.59% at maturity.

  • NBP Itmenan TDR, monthly profit: 11.70% for year 1, 11.35% for year 3, 11.15% for year 5 and 11.35% for year 10.
  • NBP Premium Aamdani Certificates, monthly profit: 9.80% for 1 year, 9.85% for 2, 9.90% for 3, 9.95% for 4 and 10.00% for 5 years.
  • NBP Plus Term Deposit Certificate, Rs 0.5 million to Rs 99.99 million, at maturity: 10.05% for 1 year, 10.18% for 3 years, 10.30% for 5 years and 10.59% for 10 years. Bigger slabs add 0.02 to 0.15 points.

The sheet does not say who can open an Itmenan deposit or its minimum amount. Ask your branch before you plan around 11.70%, because a rate that high on a one year deposit usually comes with conditions.

NBP monthly profit options compared: Itmenan, Premium Aamdani and Izafi Munafa

Rs 1 million at NBP earns Rs 8,167 to Rs 9,750 a month

Rs 1 million in NBP Premium Aamdani for one year at 9.80% pays about Rs 8,167 a month before tax. In Itmenan at 11.70% it pays about Rs 9,750 a month. In PLS Savings at 10.00% it earns about Rs 50,000 every six months.

These are our own sums from NBP's published rates. Withholding tax comes off the profit, and the rate depends on whether you are on the active taxpayer list, so check the tax on bank profit first.

  1. Decide whether you need the money in the next year. If you might, keep it in PLS Savings or Izafi Munafa at 10.00%.
  2. If you want a monthly income, compare Itmenan at 11.70% with Premium Aamdani at 9.80%, and ask which one you qualify for.
  3. Avoid the plain PLS term deposit for one year at 8.50% unless the branch shows you a reason. Savings pays more.
  4. Ask the branch for the rate on the day you book. NBP calls these rates indicative, and a deposit keeps the rate it was booked at.
  5. Check your first profit credit against the rate on your receipt.

Breaking a deposit early usually costs part of the profit, at NBP as at other banks. The pattern for breaking a fixed deposit early is worth reading before you lock money away for five years.

Four steps to choose an NBP savings account or term deposit

The savings rate should rise to 10.5% from 1 November

SBP raised its policy rate to 12% from 27 October 2026, and its floor rate is now 11%. Under SBP's rule the minimum savings rate is 0.5 points below the floor, so eligible individual savers should get 10.5% from 1 November. NBP's sheet still showed August rates on 1 November.

SBP's 2013 circular says the minimum moves on the first day of the month after a change in the floor rate. We explain that rule in full in how the SBP floor sets your savings rate. The minimum applies to individuals with a monthly average balance up to Rs 10 million, which is exactly NBP's tier line.

So if you hold an NBP PLS Savings account, check the profit paid for November. If it is still worked out at 10.00%, ask the branch why. For how NBP compares with other big banks, see the savings account rates at major banks.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read NBP's indicative profit rates page on 1 November 2026. It lists the rate sheet effective 1 August 2026 as the latest, and its notice page links the notice of 22 September 2026 for the savings tiers from 1 September. We also read SBP's 2013 minimum rate circular and SBP's home page, which showed the 12% policy rate and the 11% floor. All rupee sums are our arithmetic. We could not verify who qualifies for NBP Itmenan, the minimum deposit for each scheme, or whether NBP will issue a November sheet.
