How to Open a Bank Account for a Child in Pakistan
Opening a bank account for your child in Pakistan? See the documents banks ask for, who can run the account, debit card age limits and what changes at 18.

To open a bank account for a child in Pakistan, take the child's B-Form (or Juvenile Card) and the parent's original CNIC to a branch. Most banks also ask for the parent's proof of income. Only the father, the mother or a court appointed guardian can open and run the account until the child turns 18.
A minor's account is an ordinary savings account held in the child's name, which the parent runs. We read the account terms and document lists that HBL, Allied Bank and Meezan Bank publish on their own websites. The core rules match across all three, so the steps below should work at most banks.

Documents you need for a child's bank account
You need the child's NADRA B-Form or Juvenile Card, the guardian's valid CNIC, and usually proof of the guardian's income. A court appointed guardian also needs a certified copy of the court order. Bring originals; the branch keeps copies.
| Document | Who it is for | Where we read it |
|---|---|---|
| B-Form (Child Registration Certificate) or Juvenile Card | The child | HBL terms, Allied Bank and Meezan Bank document lists |
| Valid CNIC, SNIC or NICOP | The parent or guardian | HBL terms, Allied Bank Rising Star page |
| Proof of income | The parent or guardian | Allied Bank Rising Star page |
| Certified court order of guardianship | A guardian who is not a parent | HBL terms |
| Provisional CNIC number on the CRC | Child aged 6 or more, for a debit card | HBL MoneyClub terms |
If your child does not have a B-Form yet, get that first. NADRA issues it, and the steps are in our B-Form registration explainer. All three banks we checked list it for minors.
Who can open and operate the account
HBL's account terms say accounts for minors can only be opened by the child's father, mother or a court appointed guardian. That person holds title to the account and is responsible for every transaction on it until the child reaches 18.
Other relatives cannot open one on their own. A grandparent, uncle or older sibling would first need a guardianship order from a family court. The process is explained in how guardianship works in Pakistan.
The child cannot withdraw money alone. Allied Bank's Rising Star page says parental or guardian help is required for all banking activity on the account.
How to open the account step by step
Visit a branch of the bank you choose with the child's B-Form and your original CNIC. Fill in the account opening form in the child's name with you as guardian, give biometric verification, and make the first deposit. The account title shows the child as a minor.
- Choose the bank and the product. Most banks have a named children's savings account. Allied Bank calls its one Rising Star; HBL's is MoneyClub.
- Get the documents ready. Child's B-Form, your CNIC and proof of income, as listed above.
- Visit the branch together. The guardian must be there for biometric checks. Taking the child is not always needed, but ask first.
- Fill in the form. The account is in the child's name, with your name as guardian and operator.
- Deposit and ask about the card. Ask about the minimum balance, the profit rate and whether a debit card is available for the child's age.

The opening deposit, minimum balance and profit rate change from bank to bank and month to month. Ask for the product's Key Fact Statement, the short sheet banks publish for each deposit product, before you sign.
Debit cards and cheque books for children
A child's account can come with a debit card, but there are age limits. HBL's terms say its MoneyClub debit card is issued only to children aged six or older, in the joint names of the child and the parent, with the provisional CNIC number on the child's CRC.
Allied Bank's Rising Star page lists a debit card usable with parental access, two cheque books and a cash box for saving at home. Check what the card can do before you hand it over. Online shopping and ATM limits are usually set by the parent or the bank.
If you are comparing card costs, our list of HBL debit card types and fees shows how much these cards can vary.
What happens when the child turns 18
At 18 the minor's account ends. HBL's terms say the account is closed and the balance moves to a new provisional account that only the young adult can operate, after they complete the bank's formalities. The parent loses title to it.
In practice, the bank will ask for the young adult's own CNIC. HBL's terms say the balance can be moved to a provisional current account if a valid CRC is on file. Get the CNIC soon after the 18th birthday so the money is not stuck.
If the guardian dies before the child turns 18, HBL's terms say operations are suspended until the child turns 18 or a court appoints a new guardian. A will or a clear family plan helps avoid this. The State Bank's complaint portal FAQ also says deposits in a minor's name are exempt from being surrendered to SBP as unclaimed.

Profit and tax on a child's savings
A minor's savings account earns profit like any other savings account, and the bank deducts withholding tax on that profit. The rate depends on whether the account holder is on FBR's Active Taxpayers List. Ask the bank how it treats a minor's account.
The rates and the filer rules are set out in our page on tax on bank profit. Keep the account's yearly tax certificate. It is useful when the child later files a return or applies for a scholarship that asks for bank records.
Common questions

Get the B-Form first. HBL, Allied Bank and Meezan Bank all list the B-Form, Child Registration Certificate or Juvenile Card as the minor's identity document.

Only with a court order naming them as guardian. HBL's terms allow only the father, the mother or a court appointed guardian.
At what age can my child get a debit card?
From six at HBL, according to its MoneyClub terms. Other banks set their own age limits.

Some banks offer digital account opening for adults, but the banks we checked describe minors' accounts as opened through a branch. Ask your bank.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked on 1 October 2026. We read HBL's account terms and conditions (general accounts, including the MoneyClub section) on hbl.com, Allied Bank's account documents page and its Allied Rising Star Account page on abl.com, and Meezan Bank's basic documents list for account opening on meezanbank.com. We did not open an account ourselves. Minimum balances, profit rates and fees vary by bank and were not quoted because they change often.
