England's chase began well. Reports put them at 91 without loss after 14.3 overs. They then lost ten wickets for 124 runs in the last 24.1 overs. That collapse decided the match.

Arafat Minhas took 6 for 40 and scored 59

Minhas took six wickets and made 59 off 58 balls with nine fours. One match report gives his bowling as 6 for 40 in 8.4 overs, an economy of 4.62 runs an over. His 59 came at a strike rate of 101.7.

He came in at number seven when Pakistan were 133 for 5 in the 28th over. His wickets were Tom Banton, Harry Brook, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton, Jordan Cox and Adil Rashid. Cox and Rashid were out leg before wicket, which means the ball hit the pad in front of the stumps.

A published report says he is the third Pakistan player to score a fifty and take five wickets in the same ODI, after Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq. It was his second player of the match award in his fifth ODI. Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi called him "a proper allrounder".

Hasan Nawaz and Minhas rebuilt Pakistan from 133 for 5

Pakistan were 133 for 5 before Hasan Nawaz and Minhas added 78 for the sixth wicket. Hasan made 79 off 74 balls with five fours and four sixes. Faheem Ashraf then hit 39 off 26 balls to lift the total past 300.

Fakhar Zaman was out for a first ball duck. Saad Baig made 35 off 54 balls and Babar Azam 34 off 52, two slow innings that left the later batters a lot to do. Saim Ayub made 8, Salman Agha 16 and Shaheen 10 off 5 balls.

Hasan's strike rate was 106.8, which is 79 runs off 74 balls. Faheem's was 150. Those two quick innings after the slow start are why 302 was on the board.

England's chase fell apart after a 91 run start

England chased 303 and fell 87 short. Banton made 57 off 53 balls and Ben Duckett 45 off 46, but no one else passed 33. Joe Root made 33 off 35 and Sam Curran 27.

  1. Haris Rauf removed Duckett to break the opening stand.
  2. Naseem Shah bowled Root.
  3. Minhas took Banton, then Brook, Jacks and Overton.
  4. Minhas finished the innings with the leg before wickets of Cox and Rashid.

Two match reports differ on the early overs. One has England at 91 without loss after 14.3 overs. Another has 117 for 1 after 18 overs. Both can be true, because Duckett fell between those two points. For England, Gus Atkinson took the wickets of Fakhar and Saad Baig.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 21 October 2026. We read two published match reports and the series match list and points table for the scores, wickets and standings on 21 October 2026. We also opened the ICC playing conditions page. The Pakistan Cricket Board scorecard page did not load for us, so every figure is reported rather than confirmed on the board's page. The two reports differ on England's early score, and neither names the toss winner. The strike rate and economy figures are our own arithmetic.
