The dollar in Pakistan's interbank market closed at Rs 277.00 on Friday 9 October 2026, by the State Bank's revaluation rate. Banks traded it at a weighted average of Rs 276.73 to buy and Rs 277.15 to sell. The rupee gained less than one paisa on the day and about 7 paisa over the week.

We read these figures on sbp.org.pk after Friday's close. The State Bank also posts the open market closing rates that the Exchange Companies Association of Pakistan (ECAP) sends it. When we checked on Friday evening, the newest open market sheet on sbp.org.pk was still Thursday's, so the open market rates below are for 8 October and are marked that way. Markets are shut on Saturday and Sunday, so the interbank rates hold until Monday 12 October.

The dollar rate in Pakistan today is Rs 277.00 interbank

Rs 277.0040 is the State Bank's mark to market revaluation rate for 9 October 2026, the rate banks use to value their dollar books. The weighted average rates show what banks actually paid and charged each other during the day.

Every interbank figure moved down by about half a paisa to one paisa. On Thursday, the open market selling rate was about Rs 1.80 above the revaluation rate. That gap is normal. A counter dealer handles cash in small amounts and prices that in.

The rupee gained about 7 paisa this week

The revaluation rate fell from Rs 277.0133 on Thursday to Rs 277.0040 on Friday, a change of 0.93 paisa. Over the week, from Friday 2 October, it fell by 6.74 paisa. Since Monday 29 September it has fallen by 11.74 paisa in total, so one dollar now buys slightly fewer rupees.

  1. Friday 2 October: revaluation rate Rs 277.0714.
  2. Monday 5 October: Rs 277.0631.
  3. Tuesday 6 October: Rs 277.0545.
  4. Wednesday 7 October: Rs 277.0214.
  5. Thursday 8 October: Rs 277.0133.
  6. Friday 9 October: Rs 277.0040.

For a family receiving about Rs 100,000 worth of dollars, Friday's move is worth about Rs 3. The whole move since 29 September is worth about Rs 42. In practice, the rate has stayed at about Rs 277 for two weeks.

The State Bank's latest weekly figure, as on 2 October 2026, put its own liquid reserves at $21,453.7 million. Steady reserves are one reason the rate has barely moved.

Riyal, dirham, pound and euro rates for remittance families

Saudi Arabia and the UAE are the two biggest sources of money sent home to Pakistan. The State Bank's revaluation rate for 9 October puts the Saudi riyal at Rs 73.78 and the UAE dirham at Rs 75.42. The latest open market rates on sbp.org.pk, for Thursday 8 October, were Rs 73.88 to buy and Rs 74.41 to sell for the riyal, and Rs 75.57 to buy and Rs 76.17 to sell for the dirham.

British poundRs 366.85Rs 365.78Rs 369.50
EuroRs 310.95Rs 310.08Rs 313.28

The pound and the euro rose against the rupee on Friday. The State Bank's revaluation rate for the pound went up by Rs 1.29 and for the euro by Rs 1.06. So expect counter rates for both to open the new week a little higher than Thursday's open market figures. The riyal and dirham barely moved.

The buying column is what a dealer pays you when you sell foreign currency. At Thursday's open market rate, 1,000 riyals in cash fetched about Rs 73,880, less any dealer margin. Money sent through a bank or a licensed app is converted at that provider's own rate.

Forward rates show Rs 291 for a dollar one year out

The same State Bank sheet lists forward revaluation rates. These are the rates banks use to value contracts that settle on a future date. For 9 October, the sheet shows Rs 280.42 for three months ahead, Rs 283.94 for six months and Rs 291.13 for one year.

These are not a forecast of where the rupee will be. A forward rate mostly reflects the gap between Pakistani and US interest rates. Pakistan's rates are higher, so a dollar for future delivery costs more rupees. An importer who books a dollar payment a year ahead pays roughly that premium to lock the rate today.

What to check before you change money this weekend

The official interbank rates above will not change until Monday. A gap of a rupee or two between a dealer's quote and these rates is normal. A gap of five rupees or more on a dollar is worth questioning, or walking away from.

  • Check the date on any rate you see. Many pages show an old figure under today's date.
  • Ask whether the quote is to buy or to sell. The two differ by more than a rupee.
  • Use a licensed exchange company and get a receipt. The rules for buying dollars at a counter include showing your original CNIC.
  • For a card payment abroad, check the card's own conversion charge as well as the rate.

If you plan to keep dollars rather than spend them, a bank route such as a dollar account in Pakistan avoids holding cash at home. Our 8 October dollar report has Thursday's full table.
