The Punjab Public Service Commission has changed the syllabus for the Combined Competitive Examination expected in 2027. The written part now has 11 papers and 1,100 marks, the interview adds 300, and the total is 1,400.

Two details matter most. The Mental Ability and Reasoning Test carries a 33 per cent qualifying mark with negative marking. And the full subject-wise syllabi are not out yet. We read the Commission's press release on ppsc.gop.pk on 8 October 2026.

The new paper structure has 11 papers

The press release lists eleven papers: General Knowledge, Mental Ability and Reasoning, English Essay, English, Urdu, Islamic Studies or Ethics, two Pakistan Studies papers, International Affairs, Economy and Development, and one optional subject.

PartWhat the press release says
Papers I and IIGeneral Knowledge, then the Mental Ability and Reasoning Test
Papers III to VEnglish Essay, English, and Urdu, all subjective
Papers VI to X25 marks of MCQs and 75 marks of subjective questions in each
Paper XIOne optional subject, subjective, 100 marks
Written total1,100 marks
Interview and viva voce300 marks
Grand total1,400 marks

Papers VI to X are Islamic Studies or Ethics for non-Muslims, Pakistan Studies I (history before and after independence), Pakistan Studies II (geography, society, culture and institutions), International Affairs, and Economy and Development.

The Mental Ability test now has a pass mark

Paper II is the Mental Ability and Reasoning Test. The Commission says the qualifying mark will be 33 per cent, with negative marking, in the forthcoming examination. It adds that this may be revised later after analysis.

PPSC Mental Ability test 33 per cent qualifying mark with negative marking

The test covers four areas: logical and analytical reasoning, quantitative and numerical processing, reading and verbal comprehension, and decision-making and problem-solving. That is a different skill from memorising facts.

Negative marking changes how you sit the paper. A blind guess can now cost you. The press release does not say how many marks a wrong answer loses, so wait for the detailed syllabus before you build a guessing rule.

Detailed syllabi arrive by the end of October

The Commission says detailed syllabi for all subjects will be uploaded by the end of October 2026. Until then, you have paper titles and marks only. Topic lists, books and the optional subject outlines are still to come.

That gap is a real risk for people who buy guide books now. A book written for the old pattern may cover topics that no longer appear. We would hold off on large purchases until the detailed syllabi are on the website.

  1. Open ppsc.gop.pk and find the news and highlights section.
  2. Look for the press release on the revised CCE syllabus.
  3. Check the downloads page for the detailed syllabus once it appears.
  4. Note the optional subject list and pick one early.
  5. Recheck the site every week in November.

The CCE-2025 psychological assessment runs until 30 October

This is a separate stage for an earlier batch. PPSC has posted dates for the psychological assessment of CCE-2025 candidates under Case No 36C/2025. A written test was held on 26 September for 344 candidates at Punjab University in Lahore.

Group activity and psychological interviews then run from 29 September to 30 October 2026. Multan hosts the first three days for candidates of Multan, Bahawalpur and D.G. Khan. Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Sargodha candidates follow.

DatesVenue and candidates
29 September to 1 OctoberPPSC Regional Office, Multan (Multan, Bahawalpur, D.G. Khan)
6 and 7 OctoberPunjab College Campus 10, Gulberg III, Lahore (Lahore station)
9 and 10 OctoberPPSC Regional Office, Rawalpindi (Rawalpindi station)
14 and 15 OctoberLahore, same campus (Lahore station)
16 OctoberLahore, same campus (Faisalabad station)
19 OctoberLahore, same campus (Sargodha station)
20 to 23 and 26 to 30 OctoberLahore, same campus (Lahore station)

The notice is blunt on two points. The admission slip for the group activity is issued only on the day of the written assessment, to candidates who are present. And a candidate who misses any phase is not eligible for the final interview.

What to do if you plan to sit CCE 2027

Start with the structure, not the books. Decide your optional subject, practise reasoning questions under time, and read the Commission's website often. Our guide to applying to PPSC and getting your roll number slip explains the portal, so you are not learning it on the last day.

The latest PPSC job advertisement, Advertisement 10/2026 with 1,958 charge nurse posts, closed on 5 October. If you missed it, other routes are set out for applying for government jobs online in Pakistan.

No date for the CCE 2027 advertisement has been published. The press release says the examination is "expected" in 2027. Treat any social media post with an exact date as unconfirmed until it appears on ppsc.gop.pk.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 8 October 2026. We opened the Punjab Public Service Commission website at ppsc.gop.pk and read two notices posted under its news and highlights section: the press release on the revised syllabus for the Combined Competitive Examination, and the schedule of dates and venues for the psychological assessment of CCE-2025 under Case No 36C/2025. The file names of both notices carry 24 September 2026, so they are about two weeks old, though the site still marks them as new. The Commission has not yet published the detailed syllabi, a marks scheme for negative marking, or an advertisement date, and we have not stated any of those. Confirm every date on ppsc.gop.pk before you travel or buy study material.
