How Long PTA Phone Registration Takes in Pakistan: 24 to 48 Hours, 7 Days to Pay, 3 to 4 Hours to Unblock
PTA says the manufacturer check takes 24 to 48 hours, the PSID must be paid in 7 days and a blocked phone opens 3 to 4 hours later. See each wait and next step.

Short answer: After you apply on PTA's Device Registration System, expect three waits. The manufacturer check takes typically 24 to 48 hours. You then have 7 days to pay the duty and tax on the payment slip. If your phone was blocked, the operators typically unblock it 3 to 4 hours after your confirmation SMS. Complain through PTA's CMS if service is still off after 24 hours.
A buyer in Karachi pays the tax on his new phone at 4 pm and checks the signal at 4:10. Nothing. He pays again at a different bank, thinking the first payment failed. Neither step was needed. The system was on its normal wait.
We read PTA's own question and answer page for device registration on 12 October 2026 and took the timings from it. We did not register a phone for this guide, so the times are PTA's statements, not our stopwatch readings. PTA uses the word "typically", and we keep it.
The manufacturer check comes first and typically takes 24 to 48 hours
After your application is submitted in the Device Registration System, called DRS, PTA shares your IMEI numbers with the phone's manufacturer for verification. PTA says this typically takes 24 to 48 hours. IMEI is the 15 digit serial number of a phone.
Nothing else moves until this step is done. You cannot pay, because no payment slip exists yet. Check the DRS account instead of repeating the application. Our guide to registering a mobile phone with PTA covers the application itself.
You then have 7 days to pay the PSID
Once the check passes, PTA says the Payment Slip ID, called PSID, is issued by FBR through its WeBOC system and sent to you by SMS. You must pay the applicable duties and taxes within 7 days.
A PSID is a one-time slip number for one payment. Pay through a bank using that number. If the 7 days pass, the slip is no longer a safe thing to pay against, so apply again in DRS rather than paying late. We could not read PTA's wording on a late payment, so treat that last line as our advice and not as a PTA rule.
| Stage | What PTA says | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer check | Typically 24 to 48 hours after you apply | Wait and watch the DRS account |
| PSID sent by SMS | Pay the duties and taxes within 7 days | Pay through a bank using the PSID |
| Payment confirmed | Status moves from Pending to Approved after FBR confirms | Wait for the confirmation SMS |
| Unblocking, if blocked | Typically 3 to 4 hours after the confirmation SMS | Restart the phone after 3 to 4 hours |
| Still no service | Complain through CMS if not restored in 24 hours | File the complaint with your IMEI |

Payment goes through 1-Link to FBR before approval
When you pay at a bank, PTA says the transaction is transmitted via 1-Link to FBR. After FBR confirms the payment, the application status changes from Pending to Approved. That is the moment the registration is complete.
The gap between paying and approval is the one that causes double payments. PTA does not give a number for this step. Wait for the status to change and do not pay a second time. If you need to know how the amount is worked out before you pay, see how to calculate PTA tax on your phone.
A blocked phone is unblocked about 3 to 4 hours after your SMS
If the device is blocked, PTA says all registered IMEIs are shared with the mobile operators for unblocking. That step typically takes 3 to 4 hours after you receive the registration confirmation SMS. PTA advises restarting the device after 3 to 4 hours to check that cellular service is back.
A phone with a pending status may show a different reply when you ask for its status. The meaning of each reply is in what PTA's 8484 reply means for your phone.
Follow these six steps through the waits
Do the steps in order and write down the time of each one. A note of the times helps if you need to complain.
- Submit the application in DRS with every IMEI of the phone.
- Wait 24 to 48 hours for the manufacturer check.
- Pay the PSID at a bank within 7 days of the SMS.
- Wait for the status to change from Pending to Approved.
- Restart the phone 3 to 4 hours after the confirmation SMS.
- If service is still off after 24 hours, complain through the PTA CMS app or website.

PTA says every IMEI in the device must be registered. An iPhone with an eSIM carries both a physical and a digital IMEI, and both go in the same application.

Check the status before you complain
Before you file a complaint, check whether the phone is already compliant. The free DVS app and the 8484 SMS service both show it, as explained in checking a phone's PTA status with the DVS app. PTA says that if the app shows Compliant but service does not return in 24 hours, you should complain through the CMS.
When you complain, give the IMEI, the application number, the PSID and the time you paid. The general complaint route is the same one explained in how to complain about your mobile network to PTA.
Common questions
How long does PTA phone registration take?
It depends on three waits. PTA says the manufacturer check typically takes 24 to 48 hours, you have 7 days to pay, and unblocking typically takes 3 to 4 hours after the confirmation SMS.
How long do I have to pay the PSID?
7 days from the SMS, according to PTA's page. We did not find what PTA does with a late payment.
Why is my phone still off after I paid?
The bank payment must reach FBR through 1-Link, and the status must change to Approved. Operators then unblock the phone, typically in 3 to 4 hours. Restart the phone after that.
When should I complain?
If service has not come back within 24 hours and the DVS app shows Compliant, PTA says to complain through its CMS.
Do I register both IMEIs of my phone?
Yes. PTA says all IMEIs programmed in the device must be registered, including a digital IMEI for an eSIM.
Can I pay a second time if nothing changes?
Do not pay again on your own. Wait for the status to change, and complain through CMS if it does not. PTA gives no refund steps for a second payment on this page.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
We read PTA's device registration questions and answers on 12 October 2026. The DRS portal is at dirbs.pta.gov.pk/drs. We did not run a registration, so the waits are PTA's own statements. The advice on late payment and double payment is ours.
