Punjab Air Quality on 19 October 2026: Lahore 265, Safari Park Hits 500 Hazardous
Punjab's official AQI site read Lahore at 265, Unhealthy, at 3 am on 19 October 2026. Safari Park hit 500 Hazardous and Nankana Sahib was worst at 279.

Lahore's air quality index read 265, Unhealthy, at 3:00 am on 19 October 2026 on Punjab's official AQI dashboard, up from 226 at the same hour a day earlier. Nankana Sahib was the worst city in the province at 279, and the Safari Park station in Lahore hit 500, the top of the Hazardous band. Four days earlier, at midday on 15 October, Lahore had read 67.
We opened aqi.punjab.gov.pk twice on 19 October 2026, at the 2:00 am and 3:00 am updates. The figures below are from the 3:00 am reading. The dashboard belongs to the Environmental Protection Agency Punjab and runs on its own monitoring stations. The jump is the first time this smog season that Lahore has crossed 250 on the official site, as far as our daily readings go.
Lahore reads 265 at 3 am, up from 226 a day earlier
Lahore's citywide figure, averaged over 11 stations, was 265 at 3:00 am on 19 October. The dashboard put yesterday's same-hour reading at 226. At 2:00 am the figure had been 237, so the air got worse through the night rather than better.

The site's seven-day trend for Lahore shows the swing. The weekly low was 67 at 12:00 pm on 15 October, which is the Satisfactory band. The weekly high was the 265 at 3:00 am on 19 October. That is a four-fold rise in under four days. On 15 October the city had read 102 at 4:00 pm, which we recorded in our report on Punjab's air quality on 15 October.
The weather panel on the dashboard gives the likely reason. It showed 23 degrees, humidity 86 per cent and wind at 0.4 metres a second from the south south west. Still, damp air at night lets smoke and dust sit over the city instead of blowing away.
Nankana Sahib is the worst city at 279 and Narowal the cleanest at 23
The dashboard ranked 34 cities at 3:00 am. Nankana Sahib led at 279, with Lahore second at 265 and Jhang third at 258. Kasur was fourth at 247 and Multan fifth at 228. At the other end, Narowal read 23, the only city in the Good band, and Chiniot read 65.

Our tally of the 34 cities by band: 1 Good, 1 Satisfactory, 14 Moderate, 7 Unhealthy for sensitive groups and 11 Unhealthy. On 15 October the same tally had 19 cities in Moderate and only 2 above 150. The number of cities above 200 went from none to eleven in four days.
Safari Park reads 500 Hazardous and every Lahore station is above 150
The town-wise table for Lahore is where the night looked worst. Safari Park read 500, which is the ceiling of the dashboard's Hazardous band, with PM2.5 at 238.2 and PM10 at 895.8 micrograms per cubic metre. Kahna Nau read 320, Very Unhealthy. Shahdara read 299 and Gulberg III 283.
| Lahore station | AQI | Band | PM2.5 | PM10 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Safari Park | 500 | Hazardous | 238.2 | 895.8 |
| Kahna Nau | 320 | Very Unhealthy | 186.0 | 469.0 |
| Shahdara | 299 | Unhealthy | 201.1 | 449.1 |

| DHA Phase 6 | 263 | Unhealthy | 155.6 | 412.5 |
| GT Road | 254 | Unhealthy | 172.8 | 403.4 |

| Punjab University | 210 | Unhealthy | 156.2 | 359.4 |
| Egerton Road | 191 | Unhealthy for sensitive groups | 136.1 | 260.9 |
| Barki Road | 190 | Unhealthy for sensitive groups | 133.4 | 306.5 |
| Wagha Border | 169 | Unhealthy for sensitive groups | 98.7 | 239.2 |
One hour earlier the order was different. At 2:00 am DHA Phase 6 led at 351 and Safari Park read 236. A single station can jump by more than 250 points in an hour, so a reading for your own area is worth checking at the hour you plan to go out. How to find the town-wise table is in the guide to checking Lahore's air quality on the official site.

Eleven of 34 cities are in the Unhealthy band
Eleven cities sat between 201 and 300 at 3:00 am. They run from Nankana Sahib and Lahore in the centre through Kasur, Sahiwal, Okara and Pakpattan to Multan, Vehari, DG Khan and Faisalabad. Jhang, which led the ranking on 10 and 14 October, was third at 258.
The northern cities fared better. Rawalpindi read 119, Jhelum 120, Chakwal 123 and Murree 117, all in the Moderate band. Sialkot read 107 and Narowal 23. The pattern matches the rice belt and the central plain carrying the smoke, while the Pothohar plateau stayed clearer.
What the dashboard advises at Unhealthy and above
The dashboard's health advisory at the Unhealthy band tells the general public to wear a face mask outdoors and to avoid heavy or prolonged outdoor activity. For vulnerable groups it says to check the AQI and health vitals regularly, stay indoors as much as possible, use an N95 mask if going out is necessary, keep children indoors unless necessary, and for COPD and heart patients to ask a doctor about mask use.
Which mask does the job is in the guide to N95 and KN95 masks in smog. The EPA's advice for each band, and the steps for a school run, are in the guide on protecting children and older parents from smog. People who are pregnant or have asthma or heart disease should read NIH's smog advice for risk groups.
- Open aqi.punjab.gov.pk and read the citywide figure and the hour it was updated.
- Scroll to the town-wise ranking and find the station nearest you.
- If your station is above 200, wear an N95 and cut outdoor time, and keep children indoors.
- Set an alert on the site for your district at 200 so your browser tells you when it crosses.
- Check again before the school run, because readings change by the hour.
What is not known yet
The dashboard showed a notice headed "Connectivity Issue" saying data from some stations would be uploaded once fixed. It did not name the stations. The Lahore page also says "Reporting now 11 of 10 stations", a mismatch we have noted before. We do not know which, if any, stations were missing from the 3:00 am average.
No school order was on the School Education Department's site when we tried it on 19 October; the page is blocked to our tools, so we could not confirm either way. Where an official closure order would appear is in the guide to checking Punjab school closures for smog. The dashboard does not say why the readings rose, and the EPA had published no statement on it by the time we checked.

How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 19 October 2026 at about 3:30 am PKT. Every reading, the city ranking, the Lahore station table, the yesterday-same-hour figure, the weekly high and low, the weather panel and the health advisory text come from the Environmental Protection Agency Punjab's dashboard at aqi.punjab.gov.pk and its Lahore page, opened at the 2:00 am and 3:00 am updates. The band counts and the comparison with 15 October are our own arithmetic from the dashboard and our earlier daily reports. We could not verify which stations were affected by the connectivity notice, why the readings rose, or whether any school order was issued.
