Short answer: an Electronic Money Order (EMO) from Pakistan Post costs Rs 60 for up to Rs 1,000 and Rs 250 for Rs 5,001 to Rs 10,000, on the rate table Pakistan Post marks as revised in January 2022. An ordinary money order costs Rs 75 for up to Rs 10,000. Take cash and your CNIC to a post office counter. The receiver needs a fingerprint check above Rs 30,000.

We read every money order rate page on Pakistan Post's website on 9 October 2026. Two of them do not agree with each other, and one has not changed since 2015. This guide sets out what each page says, which one to trust, and how to ask the counter for the right fee.

An EMO costs Rs 60 to Rs 1,000 depending on the amount

Pakistan Post's EMO rate page, marked "Revised Rate Dated 20-01-2022", charges Rs 60 to send up to Rs 1,000 and rises in steps to Rs 1,000 for Rs 75,001 to Rs 100,000. Above Rs 30,000, the receiver must pass a biometric check.

EMO stands for Electronic Money Order. The post office enters the money into its computer system, so the receiving office can pay it out quickly. It is the money order most people mean today.

Pakistan Post EMO fees in 2026: Rs 60 for up to Rs 1,000, up to Rs 1,000 for Rs 100,000
Amount sent by EMOFee
Up to Rs 1,000Rs 60
Rs 1,001 to Rs 2,500Rs 100
Rs 2,501 to Rs 5,000Rs 150
Rs 5,001 to Rs 10,000Rs 250
Rs 10,001 to Rs 15,000Rs 300
Rs 15,001 to Rs 20,000Rs 350
Rs 20,001 to Rs 30,000Rs 450
Rs 30,001 to Rs 40,000Rs 500 (biometric needed)
Rs 40,001 to Rs 50,000Rs 600 (biometric needed)
Rs 50,001 to Rs 75,000Rs 800 (biometric needed)
Rs 75,001 to Rs 100,000Rs 1,000 (biometric needed)

Put simply, the fee is about 2.5 per cent on Rs 10,000 and 1 per cent on Rs 100,000. Small amounts cost the most in percentage terms. Sending Rs 1,000 costs 6 per cent.

Pakistan Post's own pages show two different EMO tables

A second Pakistan Post page shows separate EMO fees for window delivery and doorstep delivery, starting at Rs 50 and Rs 100 for up to Rs 2,000. It carries no date. The table dated January 2022 is the one linked as "Service and Rates", so we treat it as current.

Here is how the two compare for a few common amounts:

AmountRevised Jan 2022 tableUndated window tableUndated doorstep table
Rs 2,000Rs 100Rs 50Rs 100
Rs 10,000Rs 250Rs 200Rs 250
Rs 20,000Rs 350Rs 350Rs 400
Rs 50,000Rs 600Rs 500Rs 600

The gap is small for most amounts, but it is real. Before you hand over cash, ask the clerk which slab applies and check it against the receipt. If the clerk charges more than the January 2022 table, ask for the circular that allows it.

Two different Pakistan Post EMO fee tables compared for Rs 2,000, Rs 10,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 50,000

Ordinary money orders cost Rs 75 and urgent ones up to Rs 150

An ordinary money order costs Rs 75 for up to Rs 10,000 and Rs 100 for Rs 10,001 to Rs 20,000, according to Pakistan Post's 2023 rate sheet. The urgent money order page still shows its 2015 table, from Rs 105 to Rs 150.

An ordinary money order is the old paper service. It is slower and is limited to Rs 20,000. An urgent money order, or UMO, is sent through Express Post for faster delivery. Its page shows these fees, which include a special fee on top of the commission:

  • UMO local, up to Rs 10,000: Rs 105.
  • UMO city to city, up to Rs 10,000: Rs 125.
  • UMO local, Rs 10,001 to Rs 20,000: Rs 130.
  • UMO city to city, Rs 10,001 to Rs 20,000: Rs 150.

That UMO table is dated 14 September 2015. Pakistan Post's 2023 cash on delivery circular charges a higher UMO fee of Rs 135 to Rs 250 when the money order returns cash from a COD parcel. Ask at the counter which UMO fee applies today. If you sell online, the parcel side of COD has new fees from 1 October 2026, set out in Pakistan Post's new UMS rates.

Send a money order in five steps at the post office

Go to a post office that offers EMO, fill in the sender and receiver details, show your CNIC, pay the amount plus the fee, and keep the receipt. Pass the receipt number and the exact amount to the receiver.

  1. Find an EMO office. Pakistan Post lists 90 EMO locations, mostly GPOs, from Abbottabad to Turbat.
  2. Fill in the money order form with the receiver's full name, address and mobile number.
  3. Show your original CNIC to the clerk.
  4. Pay the amount plus the fee from the tables above. Count your change and check the slab.
  5. Keep the receipt. Tell the receiver the amount and the money order number.
Five steps to send an Electronic Money Order at a Pakistan Post office

The receiver collects the money at the window or at the door, depending on the service. For more than Rs 30,000, they need their CNIC and a fingerprint check, so tell them to carry the original card.

Raast and wallet transfers usually cost less than a money order

If both people have a bank account or a mobile wallet, a Raast transfer arrives in seconds and usually costs less than any money order fee. Check your bank's schedule of charges for its Raast fee. A money order makes sense mainly when the receiver has no account, or lives near a post office but far from a bank.

Setting up a Raast ID on your mobile number takes a few minutes in any banking app. For an older parent who receives money every month, that one change can save the Rs 250 or more a money order costs each time.

Pakistan Post also pays out some foreign remittances. Its home remittance page says beneficiaries of National Bank of Pakistan remittances can collect them at listed post offices free of charge, with their original CNIC and the secret PIN from the sender.

If a money order is lost or late, call Pakistan Post's helpline, 111-111-117, with the receipt number. If the department does not resolve it, a complaint to the Wafaqi Mohtasib is free.

Common questions

How much does a Pakistan Post money order cost in 2026?

An EMO costs Rs 60 for up to Rs 1,000, Rs 250 for up to Rs 10,000 and Rs 1,000 for up to Rs 100,000, on Pakistan Post's January 2022 table. An ordinary money order costs Rs 75 for up to Rs 10,000.

What is the maximum amount for an EMO?

Rs 100,000. Pakistan Post's EMO table stops at that amount.

Does the receiver need a fingerprint check?

Yes, for amounts above Rs 30,000. The EMO rate page says biometric verification is a must above that level.

Can I send a money order online?

We found no online booking for money orders on Pakistan Post's websites. You book at the counter with cash and your CNIC.

Which is cheaper, a money order or a bank transfer?

A transfer through Raast between two accounts usually costs less, and your bank lists any fee in its schedule of charges. A money order costs Rs 60 to Rs 1,000, so it suits a receiver with no account.

What is Pakistan Post's helpline number?

111-111-117. Pakistan Post's complaint lines are also listed as 051-111-111-117 on its tracking site.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked on 9 October 2026. The EMO fees are from Pakistan Post's EMO rate page, marked revised on 20 January 2022. The undated window and doorstep tables and the list of 90 EMO offices are from Pakistan Post's EMO doorstep and EMO locations pages. Ordinary money order fees are from Pakistan Post's 2023 rate sheet, the UMO fees from its urgent money order page dated 14 September 2015, and the COD money order fees from its 2023 COD circular. The remittance collection rules and the helpline are from pakpost.gov.pk. Percentages are our arithmetic.
