Short answer: from 1 October 2026, sending a Pakistan Post UMS packet of up to 250 grams costs Rs 170 city to city and Rs 100 within the same city for a walk-in customer. Up to 500 grams costs Rs 250 or Rs 130. Each extra 500 grams adds Rs 100 or Rs 50. The fee includes sales tax.

We read the new tariff sheet, dated 30 September 2026, on Pakistan Post's own website. It replaces the UMS rates set in May 2020 and the cash on delivery rates set in December 2015. If you send documents, a phone, or an online order through the post office, this is the price list you will now pay at the counter.

Pakistan Post UMS costs Rs 170 city to city from 1 October 2026

Pakistan Post's walk-in UMS rate is Rs 170 for up to 250 grams sent to another city, and Rs 100 within the same city. A 500 gram packet costs Rs 250 or Rs 130. These rates took effect on 1 October 2026 and include GST.

UMS stands for Urgent Mail Service. It is the post office's overnight or second day home delivery service for documents and parcels, with online tracking. "Local" means the sender and the receiver are in the same city. "City to city" means anywhere else in Pakistan.

Pakistan Post UMS walk-in rates from 1 October 2026: Rs 170 city to city and Rs 100 local for 250 grams
UMS walk-in tariffUp to 250 gUp to 500 gEach extra 500 g
UMS Local (same city)Rs 100Rs 130Rs 50
UMS City to CityRs 170Rs 250Rs 100

A worked example helps. A 1.2 kilogram parcel from Lahore to Karachi would be Rs 250 for the first 500 grams, then two extra steps of Rs 100, so Rs 450 in total. That reading assumes any part of an extra 500 grams counts as a full step, which is how postal weight tables normally work. The sheet does not spell it out, so ask the clerk to weigh it first.

Cash on delivery parcels now cost Rs 110 to send city to city

UMS cash on delivery, called UMS-COD, now costs Rs 110 city to city and Rs 75 local for up to 250 grams for a walk-in sender. That is up from Rs 87 and Rs 55 in Pakistan Post's earlier COD circular, a rise of about a quarter.

COD is the service small online sellers use. The buyer pays the price of the item to the postman, and Pakistan Post sends that money back to the seller. The fee in this table is only the postage part. Pakistan Post's 2023 COD circular also charged a separate money order fee for returning the cash, from Rs 135 to Rs 250 depending on the amount. The new sheet does not mention that fee, so treat it as unchanged until your post office says otherwise.

Pakistan Post UMS cash on delivery walk-in fee before and after 1 October 2026
UMS-COD walk-inOld rate (2023 circular)New rate from 1 Oct 2026
City to city, up to 250 gRs 87Rs 110
City to city, up to 500 gRs 122Rs 150
City to city, each extra 500 gRs 35Rs 50
Local, up to 250 gRs 55Rs 75
Local, up to 500 gRs 80Rs 100
Local, each extra 500 gRs 18Rs 25

The percentage rise is our own arithmetic from the two official sheets. For a small seller sending 100 city to city orders a month, the postage part goes from Rs 8,700 to Rs 11,000.

Businesses get 30 to 75 per cent off, based on monthly bookings

Corporate customers who book Rs 10,000 or more of UMS each month get a discount. It is 30 per cent from Rs 10,000 to Rs 100,000 a month and rises in steps to 75 per cent for Rs 700,001 to Rs 1,000,000 a month.

The sheet shows each corporate rate as a base charge plus a Rs 4 incentive, which is a payment to the booking post office. Here are the 250 gram rates.

Monthly UMS businessDiscountLocal, 250 gCity to city, 250 g
Rs 10,000 to Rs 100,00030%Rs 63Rs 105
Rs 100,001 to Rs 500,00040%Rs 54Rs 90

Rs 700,001 to Rs 1,000,00075%Rs 23Rs 38

One line in the official sheet does not add up. In the 30 per cent band, the extra 500 gram city to city rate is printed as Rs 35, written as 49 plus 4, which would be Rs 53. Ask for the figure in writing before you sign a corporate contract. Corporate COD customers get a flat rate of Rs 45 city to city and Rs 27 local for 250 grams.

To register, Pakistan Post says the nearest GPO or Express Post centre fills in the registration form with you. Registered customers get pick-up from their office and a monthly bill payable within 7 days.

Send a UMS parcel in five steps at any GPO

Pack the item, take it to a post office that books UMS, have it weighed, pay the fee and keep the receipt. The receipt carries the tracking number, which you check on ep.gov.pk, Pakistan Post's only tracking website.

  1. Pack the item firmly. Write the full address and the receiver's mobile number clearly on the packet.
  2. Take it to a GPO or a post office that books UMS. Pakistan Post's UMS page lists the cities it serves.
  3. Tell the clerk whether it is Local, City to City or COD. For COD, give the amount the buyer must pay.
  4. Pay the fee from the tables above. Check that the clerk charged the right weight step.
  5. Keep the receipt. Use its article number for Pakistan Post tracking on ep.gov.pk.

The weight limit is 30 kilograms. The parcel can be up to 1.5 metres long, and length plus width together cannot pass 2 metres, according to Pakistan Post's UMS service page.

Cash, gold and items worth over Rs 2,000 cannot go by UMS

Pakistan Post's UMS rules ban currency notes, coins, gold, silver, precious stones, firearms, explosives, flammable liquids and perishable food. They also ban anything whose own value is more than Rs 2,000.

That last rule surprises people. A phone or a branded watch is worth far more than Rs 2,000, so on paper it should not go by plain UMS. If it is lost, a claim may fail for that reason. For valuable items, ask at the counter about insured post, or use a courier that insures the declared value. If a parcel goes missing or arrives damaged, the steps to claim for a lost or damaged parcel are the same in principle for the post office and private couriers.

Items Pakistan Post does not allow by UMS: cash, gold, firearms and items worth over Rs 2,000

Watch out for scams too. Pakistan Post's tracking site says it never asks for online payment through a link, and has no call centre that collects duty by card or app. A text message asking you to pay a "redelivery fee" is fake.

Complain on 051-111-111-117 if the rate or delivery is wrong

If a post office charges more than the new tariff, or a UMS parcel is late, call Pakistan Post on 051-111-111-117 or file a complaint at ep.gov.pk/complaints.asp. Keep the receipt and the article number ready before you call.

If Pakistan Post does not answer, the next step is the federal ombudsman. Pakistan Post is a federal department, so a complaint to the Wafaqi Mohtasib is free and covers poor service by it.

Common questions

How much is UMS from Lahore to Karachi in 2026?

Rs 170 for up to 250 grams and Rs 250 for up to 500 grams at the counter, from 1 October 2026. Each extra 500 grams adds Rs 100.

What is the UMS rate within the same city?

Rs 100 for up to 250 grams, Rs 130 for up to 500 grams, and Rs 50 for each extra 500 grams.

Do the new UMS rates include GST?

Yes. The sheet says the walk-in and corporate rates are inclusive of sales tax. The GST rate it lists is 16 per cent for Islamabad and Punjab, 15 per cent for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, and 13 per cent for Sindh.

How fast is Pakistan Post UMS?

Pakistan Post describes UMS as an overnight or second day home delivery service. Remote areas can take longer.

Can I send a mobile phone by UMS?

The UMS rules ban any item whose value is above Rs 2,000, so a phone does not fit them. Ask about insured post or use an insured courier instead.

What is the heaviest parcel UMS takes?

30 kilograms, with a maximum length of 1.5 metres and length plus width of 2 metres.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked on 9 October 2026. Every UMS and UMS-COD rate, the corporate bands, the GST table and the effective date of 1 October 2026 are from Pakistan Post's UMS tariff sheet of 30 September 2026. The old COD rates are from Pakistan Post's 2023 UMS-COD circular on the same site. The service standard, weight and size limits, banned items and the complaint number are from Pakistan Post's UMS service page and tracking site, ep.gov.pk. The percentage changes and the worked examples are our own arithmetic.
