How to use Pakistan Post tracking on ep.gov.pk

Pakistan Post tracking lives at one address, ep.gov.pk. Type the article number from your receipt, with no spaces, and the page returns every scan the item has had. If it returns nothing after 3 days, call 051-111-111-117 with the number and the booking date, and file the online complaint form. Pakistan Post promises a written reply within 10 days.

A receipt from a post office counter looks like nothing much. A thin slip, a stamp, a number written by hand or printed by a machine. That number is the only thing that connects you to the parcel once it leaves the counter, so keep the slip until the item arrives.

We read ep.gov.pk and pakpost.gov.pk on 17 September 2026 and everything below comes from those two sites unless we say it is reported. Pakistan Post's own tracking site says the department reached 55th place out of 162 countries in the Universal Postal Union's postal ranking in 2022, which is the number it is proudest of. Reliability is one of the four things that ranking measures. Whether that shows in your tracking result is what this page is about.

Where do you track a Pakistan Post parcel?

On ep.gov.pk, and nowhere else. The site calls itself EMTTS, the Express Mail Track and Trace System, and its banner says plainly that any other link or website for tracking does not belong to Pakistan Post. The lookalike tracking sites that fill search results are not connected to it.

Pakistan Post tracking steps on ep.gov.pk
  1. Open ep.gov.pk. The tracking box is on the front page, labelled Tracking Id.
  2. Find the article number on your booking receipt.
  3. Type it exactly as printed, but with no spaces and no dashes.
  4. Press the search button.
  5. Read the latest line. Each line carries a date, a time and the office that scanned the item.

The same form sits on ep.gov.pk/track.asp. There is also a Pakistan Post app, offered as a direct download from the ep.gov.pk footer. The Google Play app called Pakistan Post Tracking, with 10,000 downloads and adverts, is made by a third party and is not the department's app. It may work, but it is not the official route.

One honest note about timing. When we tested the live tracking page behind the form at about 13:30 PKT on 17 September 2026, it answered with a single line: track is down for maintenance, please try again later. So if the page tells you the same thing, the problem is the system, not your number. Wait an hour and try again.

What does a Pakistan Post tracking number look like?

The tracking form accepts between 3 and 16 characters, letters and digits only, with a hyphen allowed. That limit is written into the page's own code. Spaces and symbols are rejected with an error, which is why a number copied from a photograph of the receipt so often fails.

Pakistan Post does not publish a list of number formats. Two shapes are reported by tracking sites:

  • International EMS and registered items use the international postal format of two letters, nine digits and PK at the end, for example EE123456789PK. The letters at the front tell you the service. This is the Universal Postal Union standard, and it is why a foreign post office can read the same number.
  • Domestic UMS items are reported to carry a plain numeric article number.

Look for the words Article No or Tracking No on the receipt. The booking date printed next to it matters too, because the complaint form asks for it.

Which Pakistan Post services can you track?

Express services are tracked at every stage. Registered mail is tracked because it carries a number. Ordinary letters and unregistered parcels carry no number at all, so they cannot be tracked, and no site can change that.

Pakistan Post services compared by price and tracking
ServiceWhat Pakistan Post says it doesPrice at source
UMS, Urgent Mail ServiceOvernight or second day home delivery, computerised track and trace, up to 30 kgLocal Rs 90 up to 250 g, city to city Rs 150, rates from 1 August 2023
UMS Counter CollectionHeld at the destination GPO, addressee phoned on arrivalSame UMS tariff
Same Day DeliveryDelivered on the booking day in 27 cities, status sent by SMSRs 128 plus 17 per cent GST up to 500 g
Registered letterNumbered, signed for, up to 2 kgRs 50 for 20 g, Rs 280 for 2 kg
Registered parcelNumbered, signed for, up to 30 kgRs 175 for 1 kg plus Rs 75 registration fee
International EMSSpeed post abroad, tracked in about 100 countriesTwo rate documents, see below

UMS is the one most people mean when they say Pakistan Post tracking. The department describes it as an overnight or second day service. That is a description, not a guarantee, and nothing on the site promises compensation for a late UMS item. The service also bars anything worth more than Rs 2,000, so a phone sent by UMS is sent against the rules and you will have a hard time claiming for it.

If speed matters more than price, Same Day Delivery covers Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, Faisalabad, Hyderabad and 18 other cities, at Rs 128 plus GST for the first half kilogram.

What does each tracking status mean?

A result is a list of scans, newest at the bottom or the top depending on the screen. Pakistan Post publishes no glossary for the wording, so the meanings below are drawn from the results tracking sites and readers describe. Treat them as a translation, not an official definition.

Status lineWhat it usually meansWhat to do
Item booked or Booked atThe counter scanned it in. Nothing has moved yet.Wait one working day
Dispatched or In transitIt left the booking office for a sorting hub or the destination cityWait, this stage can repeat
Received at or Arrived atThe named office now holds itIf it is your city, delivery is close
Out for deliveryA postman has it todayKeep the phone on, be reachable
DeliveredSigned for or handed overIf you did not get it, complain the same day
Returned or UndeliveredAddress failed, nobody home, or refusedCall the destination office fast
No record foundThe number is wrong, or the item has not been scanned yetCheck the number, then wait a day

A Delivered line with no parcel in your hands is the one to move on quickly. The postman's delivery record is what the complaint will turn on, and the office remembers a delivery better on the same day than a week later.

What if tracking shows nothing after 3 days?

An item with no scan after 3 days is usually one of three things: a number typed wrongly, an item booked but never scanned out, or a slip that was never entered into the system at all. Work through them in order before you assume the parcel is lost.

  1. Retype the number from the receipt itself, not from a photograph or a text message. Count the characters. Drop every space.
  2. Try the search again the next working day. Bookings at a small sub office can take a day to appear.
  3. Call 051-111-111-117 with the article number, the booking office and the booking date. That is Pakistan Post's own help line. Government numbers that actually answer are rarer than they should be, and the ones we tested across departments are in the verified government helplines.
  4. Ask the booking office directly. The counter that took your item can see whether it was dispatched.
  5. File the online complaint if there is still no answer. Do it on day 4, not day 14, because the paper trail at the office fades.

The department's customer guide says an item addressed to somebody unknown is held for seven days and then sent back to the sender. So a parcel that vanished may already be on its way back to you, and the booking office is the place that will know.

How do you file a complaint with Pakistan Post?

Through the express post complaint form at ep.gov.pk/complaints.asp, by phone to the complaint call centre on 051-8840360, or by email to customercare@pakpost.gov.pk. Whichever route you pick, the same five details are required, and a complaint without them goes nowhere.

Pakistan Post complaint numbers and reply time
  • The article or receipt number
  • The place of booking
  • The date of booking
  • The sender's name and the receiver's name
  • Your own phone number

The online form goes further. It asks which service the item was sent by, from a list that includes UMS, EMS, EMS Plus, COD, registered letter, insured parcel and international registered mail, and it lets you attach a photograph of the receipt. You choose whether the reply comes by email, post or SMS. Pakistan Post's complaints page says the reply will be sent within 10 days.

Each region also has a Postmaster General's office that handles complaints, with its own number: 051-9261908 for Islamabad, 042-99213502 for Lahore, 021-99250106 for Karachi and 091-9212246 for Peshawar, all listed on the complaints page. Calling the region where the item is stuck is often faster than the national line.

If 10 days pass with no reply, or the reply does not resolve it, Pakistan Post is a federal department and that opens two escalation routes. A complaint against a federal body can go to the Wafaqi Mohtasib, which charges nothing, and the department's own contact page lists a Federal Ombudsman email for exactly that. The Pakistan Citizen's Portal reaches the same department through the Prime Minister's office, and the pakpost.gov.pk homepage links to it.

How does international EMS tracking work?

The international tracking page on ep.gov.pk covers International Speed Post items booked from Pakistan to about 100 listed countries. You enter the same tracking ID, and the page also links to the foreign post office's own tracking system for each country, because once an EMS item lands abroad the foreign post carries it and scans it.

That handover explains the most common EMS complaint. An item shows a last scan at the office of exchange in Karachi, Lahore or Islamabad and then goes quiet for days. It is usually in the air or in foreign customs, and the destination country's tracker will often show a scan that Pakistan's page has not picked up yet. Check both.

Prices are the one thing we will not print for EMS. Pakistan Post's site carries a country by country EMS tariff headed effective 1 February 2019, and its homepage separately links a newer International EMS Rates document dated 24 July 2026 that is a scanned image we could not read. The two may not agree, so ask the counter for the current rate and keep the receipt. Anyone posting degree certificates abroad should get HEC attestation done first and then check what apostille and attestation a foreign office will actually accept, because a rejected document costs a second EMS fee.

Pakistan Post fraud warning about online payment requests

The fraud that rides on international tracking is a message saying a parcel is held at customs and a fee must be paid online to release it. Pakistan Post's banner is unusually direct on this point. It says duty and taxes on articles are collected through its own manual system, that there is no online system or call centre to collect any amount, and that it will not be responsible for money lost to such a link. Customs duty is paid at the counter, by hand, when you collect. Nothing else is real. If you have already paid such a fee by card or wallet, report it to your bank the same day, because a bank has 30 days to answer a fraud complaint and the clock starts when you report.

Common questions about Pakistan Post tracking

Which website is the official Pakistan Post tracking site?

ep.gov.pk. Pakistan Post says any other tracking link or website does not belong to it. The general site is pakpost.gov.pk, and both link to the same tracking form.

How many characters is a Pakistan Post tracking number?

The form accepts 3 to 16 characters, letters and digits, with no spaces. International items follow the two letters, nine digits, PK pattern, which is reported rather than published by Pakistan Post.

Can I track Pakistan Post by SMS?

Tracking sites describe sending the word Track and the number to 8899. We found no mention of 8899 on any Pakistan Post page, so treat it as unverified and use ep.gov.pk.

How long does UMS take?

Pakistan Post describes UMS as overnight or second day home delivery. It does not publish a guaranteed delivery time or compensation for delay.

What is the Pakistan Post helpline number?

051-111-111-117. The complaint call centre is 051-8840360, and the email is customercare@pakpost.gov.pk, all from Pakistan Post's own contact page.

How long does a Pakistan Post complaint take?

Pakistan Post's complaints page says a reply is sent within 10 days. If nothing arrives, the Wafaqi Mohtasib takes complaints against federal departments free of charge.

Can I track an ordinary letter?

No. Only numbered items, meaning UMS, EMS, registered letters and registered parcels, are scanned. An ordinary letter has no number to track.

Last checked and sources

Last checked 17 September 2026. We read Pakistan Post's tracking site at ep.gov.pk, including its front page and track.asp, whose form limits a tracking ID to 3 to 16 letters and digits, its banner stating that ep.gov.pk is the only official tracking website and that duty and taxes are collected manually with no online payment, its international tracking page listing about 100 countries, its Urgent Mail Service page describing overnight or second day delivery, computerised tracking, a 30 kg limit and a Rs 2,000 content limit, its Same Day Delivery page with 27 cities and the Rs 128 plus GST rate, its customer guide FAQ on undeliverable items, its contact page listing 051-111-111-117, 051-8840360, 051-9205957 and customercare@pakpost.gov.pk, and its express post complaint form. We read pakpost.gov.pk, including the complaints page promising a reply within 10 days and listing regional Postmaster General numbers, the UMS tariff effective 1 August 2023, the registered letter rates dated 11 November 2019 and the registered parcel rates dated 4 June 2020. The live tracking page behind the form answered that tracking was down for maintenance at about 13:30 PKT on 17 September 2026, so we did not submit a live number. We did not print EMS rates, because the site carries a 2019 tariff table and a separate rates document dated 24 July 2026 that is a scanned image we could not read. The tracking number formats and the status meanings are reported by tracking sites and readers, not published by Pakistan Post, and the 8899 SMS code appears on no official page we read. The 55th of 162 ranking is Pakistan Post's own statement about the 2022 UPU index. Prices and numbers change, so the receipt and the counter are the final word.
