How to Transfer a Gas Connection to Your Name With SNGPL, Free of Charge
SNGPL charges no fee to change the name on a gas connection. See the documents for buyers, heirs and tenants, the Rs 100 affidavit and how to apply online.

SNGPL says there is no fee to move a gas connection into your name. You apply online or at a regional office with your CNIC, a stamped affidavit, a property document and your last paid bill. SNGPL says the change is done by the next billing cycle.
This is for people in SNGPL's area who bought a house, inherited one, or moved in as a tenant while the meter stayed in someone else's name. We read SNGPL's change of name page and its FAQs on 8 October 2026. Everything below comes from them.
The transfer costs nothing and all dues must be clear first
SNGPL states plainly: "There is no fee for transfer of gas connection (Change Of Name)." One condition applies. All dues on the connection must be cleared before the transfer, and the FAQs answer "Yes" to that question.
So check the last bill first. If the old owner left an unpaid balance, you will need it cleared. Our guide to checking your Sui gas bill online shows how to see what is outstanding on a consumer number.

Buyers, heirs and tenants need different papers
Three situations call for a transfer: buying a property, inheriting one, and a change of tenant. Owners and heirs need an affidavit and a property document. A tenant also needs a no objection letter from the landlord.
| Your situation | Documents SNGPL lists |
|---|---|
| You bought the property | Application, copy of last paid bill, CNIC copy, affidavit on stamp paper, property document such as transfer letter, registry, fard or stamp paper |
| You inherited the property | The same as above, plus a copy of the death certificate of the consumer, and you apply as present owner, joint owner or legal heir |
| You are a tenant | Property document and a no objection letter from the owner, with your CNIC; SNGPL says the landlord's NOC is mandatory |
A buyer does not need a no objection letter from the previous owner. SNGPL has dropped that condition. In return, the new owner takes on the risk in the affidavit.
The affidavit goes on Rs 100 stamp paper
SNGPL asks for a signed affidavit, which it says may be submitted on non judicial stamp paper of Rs 100, or as revised from time to time. The stamp paper must be issued on a current date, in the applicant's name. SNGPL gives a specimen to copy.
The affidavit says you accept the risks, liabilities and responsibility for the change of name. This matters if the property has a dispute. SNGPL says it is not a party in any dispute over ownership, and a gas bill in your name is not proof that you own the property.
Inside a joint property, you do not need a no objection letter from every co-owner. SNGPL says a NADRA family registration certificate may be kept on record, and the bill title can read like "Faheem Ahmad and others". That wording is SNGPL's own example.
Apply online or at a regional office
You can apply on sngpl.com.pk or at an SNGPL regional or sub regional office. The online form asks for the present owner's consumer number, then your name, CNIC number and its issue date, mobile number and email. It also asks whether you are the owner or a tenant.

- Find the consumer number and account ID on the last paid bill.
- Buy Rs 100 stamp paper in your name, dated today, and have the affidavit written and signed.
- Scan both sides of your CNIC, the property document and the affidavit. Tenants also scan the landlord's NOC.
- Open the transfer of gas connection page on sngpl.com.pk and fill in the form.
- Upload the scans and submit. Keep the tracking reference.
- Use "Already Applied" on the same page to check the status.
If you prefer paper, take the same documents to the regional office. Our guide to applying for a new gas connection helps if the old meter was cut and you need a fresh one instead.
What happens to the old security deposit
For an active connection, the deposit paid by the previous owner may be moved into your name. SNGPL says this is done on the consumer's sole responsibility. A tenant is treated differently. The previous tenant's or owner's deposit cannot pass to a new tenant.
If the deposit falls short, you do not have to pay at the time of transfer. SNGPL may recover the shortfall through later bills. The rule changes if the meter was disconnected. For a transfer or reconnection of a disconnected meter, the security or the shortfall must be paid first, so read how to restore a disconnected gas connection before you apply.
A new gas sales contract is signed in every transfer. For commercial and industrial connections, there is a limit on withdrawing the transferred security for at least two years. SNGPL's page says so in its general guidelines.
If SNGPL is slow, escalate in order
After you submit the documents, SNGPL says the connection is transferred by the next billing cycle. If that passes with no change, the FAQs say the sales department officer is responsible for timely processing. You can call 1199 or email customerservices@sngpl.com.pk.
Keep every receipt, upload confirmation and date. If the delay continues, the route in the SNGPL and SSGC gas complaint guide goes up to the regulator, OGRA. The same sort of change on an electricity meter follows a different path, set out in the guide on changing the name on an electricity bill.
SSGC customers in Sindh and Balochistan should note that we did not find a dedicated change of name page on SSGC's site. Call SSGC on 1199 and ask for its written procedure before you pay for stamp paper.
Common questions
Is there a fee to change the name on a gas connection?
No. SNGPL states there is no fee for transfer of gas connection (change of name). You pay only for the stamp paper for the affidavit.
Do I need the previous owner's NOC after buying a house?
No. SNGPL has relaxed that condition. You give an affidavit instead, accepting the risks and liabilities.
Can a tenant move the meter into their name?
Yes, but a no objection letter from the landlord is mandatory. The previous tenant's security does not pass to you.
How long does the transfer take?
SNGPL says the connection is transferred by the next billing cycle once the application and required documents are in.
What if the old owner left unpaid bills?
Dues must be cleared before the transfer. SNGPL answers "Yes" when asked if all dues must be clear.
What stamp paper value do I need?
Rs 100 non judicial stamp paper, or as revised from time to time, issued on a current date in your name.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 8 October 2026. We opened Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited's transfer of gas connection page, its FAQs for change of name, and the online request form on sngpl.com.pk, and read the process, document lists, fee statement and form fields. We did not submit an application, so we cannot say how the portal behaves after you press submit. SSGC's website did not show a change of name page when we looked, so nothing here is claimed for SSGC. Rules and stamp paper values can be revised, so confirm on sngpl.com.pk or on 1199 before you file.
