UK Visa Processing Time From Pakistan: 3 Weeks for Visit, Study and Work, 12 Weeks for Family (Every Visa, 2026)
UK visa processing time from Pakistan: 3 weeks for visit, student and Skilled Worker visas, 12 weeks for spouse visas. Check your decision date and the delays.

A UK visa applied for from Pakistan takes 3 weeks for a Standard Visitor, Student or Skilled Worker visa, and 12 weeks for a spouse, partner, parent or child visa, on UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) figures last updated on 9 September 2026. The clock starts on the day you give your fingerprints and photo at the visa centre, not the day you paid online.
Those are standard service times. Paying for priority shortens them, and some cases run longer for reasons the applicant can often control. Below you will find the list for every common visa, when the clock starts and stops, the free online tool that gives your own decision date, and when you may contact UKVI. We read the GOV.UK processing times guidance on 31 October 2026.
UK visa processing times for applications made outside the UK
GOV.UK lists one standard time per visa for everyone applying outside the UK, including Pakistan. Most visit, study and work visas take 3 weeks. Family visas and the British National (Overseas) route take 12 weeks.
| Visa | Standard processing time |
|---|---|
| Standard Visitor, Marriage Visitor, Transit | 3 weeks |
| Student and Child Student | 3 weeks |
| Short-term student for 6 to 11 month English courses | 3 weeks |
| Skilled Worker, Health and Care Worker | 3 weeks |
| Global Talent, High Potential Individual, Youth Mobility | 3 weeks |
| Temporary work: Seasonal, Charity, Creative, Religious Worker | 3 weeks |
| Partner or spouse, Parent, Child | 12 weeks |
| Adult coming to be cared for by a relative | 12 weeks |
| Returning Resident | 3 weeks |
GOV.UK says the times are based on the UK working week, Monday to Friday. In plain numbers, 3 weeks is 15 working days and 12 weeks is 60 working days, by our arithmetic.

The clock starts at your biometrics appointment
UKVI starts processing once you either verify your identity in the UK Immigration: ID Check app, or attend your appointment at a visa application centre to give fingerprints and a photo. GOV.UK names VFS Global as an example of a visa application centre, and that is where Pakistani applicants usually give biometrics.
The clock stops when UKVI decides. You get a letter or email telling you the decision and what to do next. If you left your passport at the centre, GOV.UK says not to go back until you are contacted.
- Book biometrics early: the wait for an appointment is not part of the 3 weeks.
- Do not book flights: GOV.UK says not to book travel until you get a decision, and UKVI will not pay any travel costs if a decision is late or refused.
- Refunds: the fee is refunded only if UKVI has not started processing.
Check your own UK visa decision date online
GOV.UK runs a free tool that tells you when to expect a decision. It works for visit, study, work, marriage, medical treatment and transit visas, and for the British National (Overseas) route. You only need the date you verified your identity.
- Open the Check your visa processing time service on GOV.UK.
- Press Start now.
- Answer which type of visa you applied for.
- Enter the date you gave biometrics at the visa centre, or used the ID Check app.
- Read the date by which you can expect a decision.
If you are not sure of the biometrics date, GOV.UK says you can estimate it. The VFS appointment confirmation email is the easiest place to find it.

Seven reasons a UK visa can take longer
GOV.UK names seven reasons a case can run past the standard time. Three of them are in your hands: accurate answers, clear evidence of funds and documents that can be verified. UKVI says it will contact you within the standard time if your case will take longer.
- The information in the application is not accurate or needs more consideration.
- You need to provide more evidence, for example of funds.
- Your supporting documents need to be verified.
- You need to attend an interview.
- More information is needed about your circumstances, such as a criminal conviction.
- UKVI is facing higher demand.
- A technical outage affects visa systems.
So check every answer against your documents before you submit, and make sure the bank statements and letters you upload can be verified. Arrange, where your visa needs one, an English test the UK accepts where your visa needs one.

When you can contact UKVI about a late decision
GOV.UK is clear that you should not contact UKVI to track an application still within the standard time, because it will not give status information. Contact UKVI only when the standard time has passed and nobody has been in touch.
GOV.UK's contact tool lists "Checking when you will get your visa decision" as one of its help topics for callers outside the UK. Its own page warns that contact centre staff cannot tell you whether you will succeed.
If you need the decision sooner, the official way is to pay for a faster decision where it is offered. The prices for UK priority and super priority from Pakistan start at £500. For the visitor visa itself, the UK visit visa fee and documents come first. And if the answer is no, the options after a UK visa refusal in Pakistan depend on the visa type.

How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 31 October 2026. We read GOV.UK's guidance on visa processing times for applications outside the UK (last updated 9 September 2026), the Check your visa processing time start page, and the Contact UK Visas and Immigration tool on that date. The times and rules come from those pages. GOV.UK does not publish separate times for Pakistan, so the standard times apply.
