For free Urdu text to speech with a Pakistani accent, Microsoft's speech service has two Urdu (Pakistan) voices, Uzma (female) and Asad (male), and its free tier covers 0.5 million characters a month. ElevenLabs also lists Urdu, with 10,000 free credits a month, about 10 minutes of speech. Google's Gemini voice models, on the other hand, do not list Urdu at all.

Most "Urdu voice" websites are wrappers around one of these engines. Going to the source gives you more free minutes and clearer rules on what you may publish. Below we compare the options by voice, free allowance and whether you can use the audio on YouTube. We read each company's page on 27 October 2026.

Four AI services can read Urdu aloud, with different free limits

Microsoft Azure Speech and ElevenLabs both list Urdu. Microsoft names its Pakistani voices; ElevenLabs lists Urdu among its languages. Microsoft Edge's Read Aloud is free on phone and PC. Google's Gemini speech models leave Urdu out.

The Gemini gap surprised us. Google's speech generation page says its newest model supports more than 130 languages, yet the table on that page has no Urdu row. Gemini chat itself understands Urdu, which is a separate thing, covered in which AI handles Urdu best.

Urdu text to speech services compared by voices and free allowance

Microsoft's Uzma and Asad are the Pakistani Urdu voices

Microsoft's speech service lists ur-PK-UzmaNeural, a female voice, and ur-PK-AsadNeural, a male voice, for Urdu (Pakistan). It also lists two Urdu (India) voices, Gul and Salman. The Pakistani pair suits local names, places and pronunciation.

The free F0 tier gives 0.5 million characters of neural speech each month. A page of Urdu runs to roughly 2,000 characters, so that is about 250 pages a month. That is our rough estimate, and your count depends on spacing and punctuation.

  1. Sign in to the Azure portal with a Microsoft account.
  2. Create a Speech resource and choose the free F0 pricing tier.
  3. Open the voice gallery in Speech Studio and set the language to Urdu (Pakistan).
  4. Pick Uzma or Asad and paste your text in Urdu script.
  5. Play it, adjust speed and pauses, then export the audio file.

This route takes 15 minutes to set up the first time and feels technical. After that it is the best free value for anyone producing regular Urdu audio, such as a news summary or lesson recordings.

ElevenLabs gives 10 free minutes but no commercial rights

ElevenLabs' free plan includes 10,000 credits a month, which its pricing table equates to about 10 minutes of speech. Urdu is on its language list. The commercial licence and voice cloning begin on the Starter plan, listed at $6, with a $1 offer until 1 November.

So a free ElevenLabs clip is fine for a school project or to hear how your script sounds. Putting it on a monetised YouTube channel is a different matter, because the free plan does not include the commercial licence. ElevenLabs says its newest models cover the widest language range, so pick the latest model when you choose Urdu.

Edge Read Aloud is the easiest way to listen, not to publish

Microsoft Edge has Read Aloud on Windows, Android and iPhone. Open the page, go to Settings and more, then More tools, then Read aloud. Microsoft says only a few voices work offline, and it does not list which languages are included.

Read Aloud is for listening to a web page or a long Urdu article while you cook or commute. It does not give you an audio file to post. We could not confirm from Microsoft's page that an Urdu voice appears in every Edge version, so check the voice list in the Read Aloud bar on your own device.

Type in Urdu script and never clone someone else's voice

Type your text in Urdu script, not Roman Urdu. These voices are trained to read the script, and Roman Urdu is likely to be read with English sounds. Then keep cloning to your own voice only, with consent on record.

If your script is in Roman Urdu, convert it first. The prompts for turning Roman Urdu into Urdu script do that in one step.

Voice cloning is where people get into trouble. Copying a public figure's or a relative's voice is how many phone scams now work, and it can land you in a criminal complaint. If you publish synthetic voices on YouTube, its rules ask you to disclose AI altered content in YouTube Studio.

Common questions

For a Pakistani accent and the largest free allowance, Microsoft's Uzma or Asad voices on the Azure free tier, at 0.5 million characters a month.

Does Google have an Urdu AI voice?

Google's Gemini speech generation page does not list Urdu among its supported languages as of 27 October 2026.

Is ElevenLabs free for Urdu?

Yes, up to 10,000 credits a month, about 10 minutes. The free plan does not include a commercial licence.

Can I use AI Urdu voice on YouTube?

Yes, if your plan allows commercial use and you follow YouTube's disclosure rules for synthetic content.

Can it read Roman Urdu?

Results are poor. Convert Roman Urdu to Urdu script first, then paste it into the tool.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read Microsoft's speech language support list, the Azure Speech pricing page, ElevenLabs' pricing page and its languages page, Google's Gemini speech generation documentation and Microsoft's Edge Read Aloud feature page on 27 October 2026. Azure's paid per character price did not load, so we give only the free allowance. We did not record or compare the voices ourselves, so nothing here ranks voice quality. The 250 page figure is our estimate at about 2,000 characters a page.
