GPT-6 Urdu Prompts: How to Write, Translate and Convert Roman Urdu in Pakistan
Six GPT-6 prompts for Urdu in Pakistan: write in Urdu script, translate and check it back, convert Roman Urdu, and draft letters. Free plan works. See limits.

To get good Urdu from GPT-6, say which Urdu you want: Urdu script, Roman Urdu, formal or friendly. Give one example sentence and ask for a short answer first. Copy the six prompts below for writing, translating and fixing Urdu text. They work on the free GPT-6 Luna and on Plus.
Urdu readers in Pakistan type in at least three ways: Nastaliq script, Roman Urdu on WhatsApp, and mixed Urdu and English. A model that does not know which one you want will guess. A single line in the prompt removes the guess.
We read OpenAI's pricing page and release notes on 22 October 2026 for plan facts. We did not run a formal Urdu accuracy test for this piece, and our earlier comparison of AI assistants for Urdu is the place for a side by side. OpenAI has not published an Urdu quality figure for GPT-6.
Tell GPT-6 the script, the tone and the reader
The answer improves when the prompt names the script, the tone and who will read it. "Write in Urdu script, polite, for a customer" works far better than "write in Urdu". Add one sample sentence when you can.
Write in Urdu script (not Roman Urdu). Tone: polite and formal. Reader: a customer. Task: tell them their order will arrive on Friday. Keep it under 30 words.
| You want | Say in the prompt |
|---|---|
| Nastaliq text | "Write in Urdu script" |
| WhatsApp style | "Write in Roman Urdu, casual" |
| Formal letter | "Formal Urdu, respectful" |
| Mixed language | "Urdu with common English words" |

Translate English to Urdu and check it by translating back
For an important message, translate it, then ask GPT-6 to translate the Urdu back into English. If the English returns with a different meaning, the Urdu has a problem. This is a quick safety check, not a guarantee.
Translate this English text into natural Urdu script for a Pakistani reader. Avoid word-by-word translation. After that, translate your Urdu back into English so I can compare.
[paste text]
- Paste the English text.
- Ask for Urdu script and the back translation.
- Compare the two English versions.
- Ask a native speaker to read anything legal, medical or financial.
- Send only after that check.

It fails most on names, legal terms and poetry. Never use a machine translation alone for a contract, a court paper or a medical instruction.
Convert between Roman Urdu and Urdu script
Roman Urdu has no fixed spelling, so the same word may be written three ways. GPT-6 can convert it, but it sometimes picks the wrong word. Give the context and read the result.
Convert this Roman Urdu into Urdu script. If a word could mean two things, tell me both and pick the one that fits the sentence.
"Mujhe kal subah bank jana hai"
If you need to turn old InPage files into modern text, that is a different job, covered in the InPage to Unicode converter guide. For typing Urdu on a phone or a computer, see the Urdu keyboard guide.
Write Urdu for work: letters, posts and short replies
For letters and posts, ask for two or three versions and pick one. Ask for simple words, since many readers prefer plain Urdu to heavy Persian vocabulary.
Write a short application in Urdu script to my school principal asking for two days of leave for a family wedding. Use simple, respectful words. Leave a blank for my name and class.
Write 3 versions of an Instagram caption in Roman Urdu for a bakery in Lahore announcing a new cake. Keep each under 20 words and add no hashtags.
Business owners who want more Urdu content ideas can also read using AI for Urdu content creation.
One more prompt helps when a text sounds stiff. Paste your own Urdu and ask GPT-6 to make it simpler without changing the meaning. Ask it to list what it changed, so you can reject any change you dislike.
Here is my Urdu text. Make it easier for a Class 8 reader. Keep the meaning the same. Show the new text first, then a short list of the words you changed and why.
This is a good use for a shop notice, a school circular or a community message. It is a poor use for religious text, where exact wording matters and a paraphrase can mislead. Leave those to a scholar.
Know where Urdu output still goes wrong
Expect trouble with right-to-left layout when you paste into some apps, with unusual spellings, and with very new words. The text may also drift into Hindi vocabulary. Ask for "Pakistani Urdu" and read the result once.
Do not paste private documents, CNICs or medical records into the chat to translate them. Use a human translator for those. OpenAI's models can also make factual mistakes, and OpenAI claims fewer, not none.

How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 22 October 2026. Plan and model details come from OpenAI's pricing page and release notes. The prompts are our own. We did not run a formal Urdu accuracy test, and OpenAI has published no Urdu score for GPT-6.
