A 50 kg bag of Sona urea cost Rs 4,780.55 on average in Pakistan in the week to 29 October 2026, and other urea brands such as Tara, Sarsabz and Shandar cost Rs 4,608.41, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Below are the prices in all 13 cities PBS checks, the rate at the start of every month in 2026, and what to do if a dealer asks for more.

Wheat sowing is under way, so most farmers are buying urea right now. A few hundred rupees a bag adds up fast over 25 acres. We read the PBS weekly price workbooks on 1 November 2026 and took every figure from them.

Sona urea averaged Rs 4,780.55 a bag in the last week of October

PBS put the national average for a 50 kg bag of Sona urea at Rs 4,780.55 in the week ended 29 October 2026. That is Rs 1.05 more than the week before and Rs 410.49 more than a year earlier, a rise of 9.39 per cent.

Other urea brands stayed about Rs 170 a bag cheaper. PBS groups them together as "Other Urea (Tara, Sarsabz, Shandar etc)", so you cannot see one brand on its own.

Quetta pays the most for urea and Lahore the least

The same bag of Sona urea cost Rs 5,848.35 in Quetta but Rs 4,525 in Lahore in the week to 29 October 2026. That gap is Rs 1,323.35 a bag. Most Punjab and Sindh cities sat between Rs 4,600 and Rs 4,750.

PBS checks fertiliser in 13 cities only. Islamabad, Sialkot, Karachi and Khuzdar are not in the fertiliser table. "N.A." means PBS found no price that week.

In Sargodha and Bahawalpur the "other" brands were dearer than Sona that week. That is how PBS recorded it, so do not assume Sona is always the expensive one.

Check the bag price before you pay the dealer

A dealer can charge a little above the PBS average, because PBS reports a market average, not a legal ceiling. A large gap is a warning sign. Compare, ask for a receipt, and check the bag before it leaves the shop.

  1. Note this week's PBS average for your city from the table above.
  2. Ask two or three dealers for their price per 50 kg bag, and the brand name.
  3. Check the bag is sealed, the brand print is clear and the weight reads 50 kg.
  4. Pay only against a written receipt with the dealer's name, the brand and the price.
  5. If you pay with a Punjab Kissan Card, use a shop that accepts it and keep the slip.

If you pay with a Kissan Card, first check where a Kissan Card works in Punjab, because not every shop takes it. For a bag you think is fake or short weight, follow the steps to report fake fertiliser in Punjab and keep the bag as evidence.

Steps to check a urea bag price and quality before paying a dealer in Pakistan

Wheat sowing makes this the costliest time to buy

Rabi sowing pushes demand up in October and November, and the PBS figures show urea climbing steadily through the autumn. Buying early and in one trip can save a second, dearer purchase, but only buy what you can store dry.

How much urea you need depends on the crop, the land and the rain. For rainfed wheat, the Punjab Agriculture Department gives bags per acre in its fertiliser dose for barani wheat. A soil test tells you more than any rule of thumb.

As a simple example, two bags of Sona urea at the 29 October average cost Rs 9,561.10. If your dose is one bag of DAP and two of urea, the bill at average prices is Rs 26,714.36 an acre before transport. PBS put DAP at Rs 17,153.26 a bag the same week, and the Rabi 2026-27 fertiliser plan says urea supply should be enough this season.

Common questions

What is the urea price today in Pakistan?

The latest PBS figure is Rs 4,780.55 for a 50 kg bag of Sona urea, for the week ended 29 October 2026. Other brands averaged Rs 4,608.41. PBS publishes new figures every Friday.

Which city has the cheapest urea?

Lahore, at Rs 4,525 a bag of Sona urea, was the cheapest of the 13 cities in the week to 29 October 2026. Quetta was the dearest at Rs 5,848.35.

Is the PBS price the official maximum price?

No. PBS records what shops charge and averages it. It is not a price cap. A big gap above the average is still worth questioning with the dealer or the district agriculture office.

Why is Sona urea dearer than other brands?

PBS lists Sona separately and groups other brands together. It does not explain the gap. In most cities Sona cost Rs 50 to Rs 200 more, but in Sargodha and Bahawalpur the other brands cost more that week.

How much has urea gone up in a year?

Sona urea rose from Rs 4,370.06 on 30 October 2025 to Rs 4,780.55 on 29 October 2026. That is Rs 410.49 more, or 9.39 per cent, on PBS figures.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read the PBS weekly price workbooks on 1 November 2026: the SPI annex for the week ended 29 October 2026, Appendix B, part A (retail fertiliser prices per 50 kg bag in 13 cities), and the annexes for the first week of each month from January to October 2026. The weekly SPI executive summary gives the wider price picture. PBS does not publish single brand prices beyond Sona, and we could not verify any dealer's shop price ourselves.
