To receive Western Union money in Pakistan, take the MTCN (the tracking number your sender gives you) and your original CNIC, NICOP or passport to any of the 33 agents Western Union lists for Pakistan: Pakistan Post, 18 banks and 14 exchange companies. The money can also go straight into your bank account if the sender chooses that option. Below is the full agent list with phone numbers, what the counter will ask you, and what to do when the money does not show up.

We read Western Union's Pakistan receive money page and its Pakistan send money page on 25 October 2026. Everything below comes from those two pages unless we say otherwise.

Western Union pays out in Pakistan through 33 listed agents

Western Union names 33 agents in Pakistan where you can collect cash: Pakistan Post, 18 banks including MCB, UBL, Meezan, Allied and Bank Alfalah, and 14 exchange companies. Any branch of these agents that offers the service can pay you.

One thing surprised us. HBL is not on Western Union's Pakistan list, and neither is any mobile wallet such as JazzCash or Easypaisa. If someone tells you to collect at one of those, check with the sender which service they actually used.

Western Union pickup agents in Pakistan: Pakistan Post, 18 banks and 14 exchange companies

The counter needs your MTCN, your ID and four details about the transfer

Bring the MTCN, an original CNIC, NICOP or passport, the rough amount within 10 per cent, the sender's full name, the sending country, and the answer to a test question if the sender set one. A second ID is needed only where required.

Get these from the sender before you leave home. A wrong sender name or a wild guess at the amount gives the counter a reason to refuse. For a transfer from the United States or Mexico, Western Union also asks for the sending city and state.

  1. Ask the sender for the MTCN, their full name as written on the receipt, and the amount sent.
  2. Pick an agent from the table and call ahead to check that branch pays Western Union.
  3. Take your original CNIC, NICOP or passport. A photocopy will not do.
  4. Give the MTCN and answer the counter's questions about the sender.
  5. Count the cash at the counter and keep the receipt.

Receivers under 18 are not allowed to collect money in Pakistan, Western Union says. If the person you want to pay is a minor, send it to a parent instead.

Steps to collect a Western Union transfer at a counter in Pakistan

You can take the money as cash, into a bank account, or through online banking

Western Union offers three ways in Pakistan: cash pickup at an agent, a direct deposit into your bank account, and collection through the online banking of a partner bank, where you enter the MTCN yourself and pick the account to credit.

For a bank deposit, give the sender four things: your full name, your bank account details, the purpose of the remittance, and your address and mobile number. The account must be a local currency account, and your name must match the name on the account exactly.

The online route works only if you bank with one of Western Union's partner banks. Log in, enter the sender's details and the MTCN, choose the transfer, then pick the account. A receipt shows whether the transfer is complete. Western Union does not list which partner banks offer this, so ask your bank first.

A cash transfer can be switched to a bank account in five countries

If the sender chose cash but you would rather have it in your account, use Update delivery method on the Western Union website with the MTCN. This works only for transfers made on WU.com or the app from the US, UK, France, Italy or Germany.

You fill in your bank details, then share the link with the sender. The sender must confirm the change, so do not expect it to go through on your side alone. Senders in Saudi Arabia, the UAE or anywhere else outside those five countries cannot use this switch, so ask them to pick the bank option from the start.

Three ways to receive Western Union money in Pakistan compared

Track the transfer before you travel, and complain if it stalls

Western Union has a Track a transfer tool on its website that shows whether the money has been picked up. Check it with the MTCN before going to a counter. If the transfer is stuck, contact the sender first, because only the sender can change or cancel it.

When a bank deposit has not arrived after the sender says it was paid, the steps in tracing a remittance that has not arrived apply here too, including where to complain in Pakistan. Families who receive often can also check whether their transfers qualify for the Pasban remittance reward draw, which is open only to money sent through formal channels.

A warning that matters. Never pay a fee to "release" a Western Union transfer, and never share your MTCN with anyone who calls about a prize or a parcel. A real transfer needs nothing from you except your ID at the counter.

Sending from Pakistan is capped at $3,000 a day

Western Union lets you send up to $3,000, or the rupee equivalent, per person per day from Pakistan. Only personal transfers are allowed. Commercial or trade payments are not. You must go in person to one of the 14 exchange companies in the table.

The sender needs an original CNIC, NICOP or passport, their occupation, the receiver's full name and address, their relationship to the receiver, and the purpose of the transfer. You get a stamped receipt, and the agent keeps a copy of your ID.

Common questions

Can I receive Western Union money in JazzCash or Easypaisa?

Western Union's Pakistan page does not list any mobile wallet as a payout agent. It lists banks, Pakistan Post and exchange companies only. Wallet payouts work through other services, set out in receiving remittance in a JazzCash wallet.

Can I collect Western Union money at HBL?

HBL is not on the 33-agent list Western Union publishes for Pakistan. Use one of the banks or exchange companies in the table instead.

What ID does Western Union accept in Pakistan?

An original, valid CNIC, NICOP or passport. A second ID may be asked for where it is mandatory.

Can someone else collect the money for me?

Western Union's page says the receiver must show their own ID and the correct MTCN, so the person named on the transfer should go.

What if I do not know the exact amount?

Western Union accepts an approximate amount within 10 per cent either way. Ask the sender for the figure on their receipt.

Is Western Union money taxed in Pakistan?

Western Union does not say. The FBR position on home remittances is set out in remittances and FBR tax.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 25 October 2026. The agent list, phone numbers, ID rules, the three ways to receive, the five-country rule for changing delivery, the under-18 rule and the $3,000 daily send limit come from Western Union's Pakistan receive money and send money pages, which we read on 25 October 2026. The count of 18 banks and 14 exchange companies is our own tally of that list. We did not collect a transfer, and we could not see which banks offer the online banking route, because Western Union does not name them. Call the agent before you go, since not every branch may pay out.
