Zong prepaid roaming bundles for Asia and Australia start at Rs 873 plus tax for 1 GB in Hong Kong and China, and a 30 day China pack with 60 minutes, 60 SMS and 3 GB costs Rs 3,900. Without a bundle, Zong lists prepaid data roaming in China at Rs 20 per MB plus tax, so a bundle is the safer way to travel.

Students heading to Chinese universities, traders going to Guangzhou, and families on a Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur holiday all ask the same thing: what will my SIM cost abroad? We read Zong's IR bundles page and its International Roaming page on 21 October 2026. Prices are plus tax.

China and Hong Kong bundles are the cheapest in Asia, from Rs 873 for 1 GB

China has data-only bundles at Rs 950 for 1 GB over 15 days, Rs 2,800 for 3 GB over 30 days and Rs 4,200 for 5 GB over 45 days. Voice packs add minutes and SMS. Zong also lists a separate Hong Kong, China set that is cheaper on the shop page.

The International Roaming page also lists a China IR Executive Offer at Rs 3,000 for 60 minutes, 60 SMS and 3 GB over 30 days, with Play Store, WhatsApp and Viber available. That is Rs 900 less than the Rs 3,900 pack with the same contents, so ask on 310 whether it is open to you. The Hong Kong, China bundle is listed separately for prepaid and postpaid, with the same prices.

Thailand costs 1.5 times and Malaysia nearly three times China per GB

Thailand data is Rs 1,500 for 1 GB, Rs 4,000 for 3 GB and Rs 6,300 for 5 GB. Malaysia data is Rs 2,800, Rs 7,800 and Rs 12,200 for the same sizes. Australia is on the International Roaming page: Rs 1,000, Rs 2,800 and Rs 4,300.

Country (data only, + tax)1 GB3 GB5 GB5 GB per GB
ChinaRs 950Rs 2,800Rs 4,200Rs 840
AustraliaRs 1,000Rs 2,800Rs 4,300Rs 860
ThailandRs 1,500Rs 4,000Rs 6,300Rs 1,260
MalaysiaRs 2,800Rs 7,800Rs 12,200Rs 2,440

The per GB column is our arithmetic. Malaysia 5 GB costs nearly three times the China bundle of the same size, and Thailand about 1.5 times. For a long Malaysia stay, a local SIM or eSIM bought there may cost far less, though you must check the rules for tourist SIMs, which we did not research. The Malaysia calling bundle for calls from Pakistan is far cheaper, see Zong's Malaysia calling bundles.

Zong Asia roaming cost per GB for the 5 GB data bundle by country

Voice packs add minutes and SMS but cost far more than data alone

For Thailand, the 60 minute, 60 SMS and 3 GB pack is Rs 7,700 against Rs 4,000 for 3 GB of data. For Malaysia it is Rs 9,700 against Rs 7,800. If you call home over WhatsApp, a data-only bundle does the same job for less. Zong notes that WhatsApp calling works abroad in the UAE, KSA, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and China.

Postpaid customers have a Rs 5,000 Continental Asia bundle with 60 minutes, 60 SMS and 1 GB for 30 days. It lists Thailand, China, Malaysia, Qatar, KSA, UAE, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. It needs the Tour de World SIM and a security deposit of Rs 15,000, as Zong's page says.

Subscribe before you leave and keep the SMS

Zong says its helplines 310 and 311 do not work while roaming. Use the Zong roaming hotline +92-311-111-4747 or call 0092-51-111-222-111 from another number. The page links activation per bundle, so subscribe through the link or by calling 310 before the flight.

  1. Dial 310 and check that roaming is on for your SIM.
  2. Pick data only, or voice and data, for your country.
  3. Subscribe before you leave Pakistan.
  4. Keep the confirmation SMS.
  5. Turn on data roaming after landing.
  6. Watch your balance for the first day.
