Short answer: Pakistani parents and grandparents apply for the Canada super visa online on the IRCC Portal. The fee is CAD 100, biometrics are CAD 85, and you need Canadian health insurance of at least CAD 100,000 valid for 1 year. One approved visa allows stays of up to 5 years at a time.

A Canadian child who wants a mother or father to stay for a whole winter and a whole summer usually finds that a normal visitor visa is too short. The super visa fixes that. We read the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) super visa pages on 14 October 2026. This guide follows those pages step by step.

The super visa lets you stay up to 5 years at a time

IRCC says a super visa gives multiple entries for up to 10 years, and each stay can last 5 years. This applies if you applied on or after 22 June 2023. A normal visitor visa usually covers a much shorter stay.

The visa is only for parents and grandparents of a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or a registered Indian. It is not a route to permanent residence. IRCC also says dependants cannot be included, so each parent applies separately.

If you only plan to stay 6 months or less, IRCC points you to the ordinary visitor visa instead. Our page on the Canada visitor visa from Pakistan covers that shorter option.

Both you and your child must meet the rules

IRCC sets conditions for the host and for the applicant. The host must be your biological or adopted child or grandchild, at least 18, living in Canada, and earning at least the minimum necessary income. You must be outside Canada, healthy and admissible.

The host also writes and signs a letter of invitation. A spouse or common-law partner who is a citizen or permanent resident can co-sign it. Siblings and other relatives cannot. IRCC links to a yearly income table for the minimum necessary income. We did not copy a figure from it, because it changes with family size and year, so open that table before you start.

Your insurance must meet five conditions

IRCC wants proof of private health insurance that covers health care, hospital stays and repatriation, with at least CAD 100,000 in emergency cover. It must be valid for 1 year from entry, and it must be paid in full or by instalments with a deposit. A quote is not accepted.

The policy must come from a Canadian insurer or from a foreign insurer approved under Canadian law. IRCC says insurance brokers and claims administrators are not insurers and do not appear on the official list. Buy from the insurer itself and ask for the policy document, not only a quote.

You must show proof of cover on each entry to Canada. If the policy will end before you leave, renew it. Border officers can ask to see it.

Follow these steps to apply from Pakistan

Apply online on the IRCC Portal, answer the two questions exactly as IRCC shows them, upload your personal document checklist, pay the fees by card, submit, then give biometrics when IRCC sends the instruction letter.

  1. Sign in to the IRCC Portal. You must be outside Canada when you apply.
  2. Choose "Visitor visa or super visa", then "To visit my children or grandchildren for more than 6 months (super visa)".
  3. Upload the invitation letter, host's status proof, proof of relationship, insurance proof and medical exam proof from a panel physician.
  4. Pay CAD 100 for the super visa and CAD 85 for biometrics by credit card, Debit Mastercard or Visa Debit.
  5. Submit, then wait for the biometrics instruction letter and book your appointment quickly.
Steps to apply for the Canada super visa from Pakistan

Pay the biometrics fee at the time you apply, because IRCC warns that paying later delays processing. If you gave biometrics before, IRCC cannot issue a visa valid for longer than your biometrics, so extend them first.

Processing time depends on the visa office

IRCC does not give one fixed time. It says processing depends on the visa office and on extra steps such as an interview, more information, a medical exam or a police certificate. We found no single Pakistan figure on the super visa pages.

Check the live tool on the IRCC site for the current wait. Do not book a flight before the visa is approved. If IRCC approves you, it sends a letter telling you to submit your passport to a visa application centre, where the visa is printed. The visa cannot be printed in Canada.

Show your documents at the Canadian airport

A valid super visa does not guarantee entry. At the border an officer checks your identity and may ask for your invitation letter, insurance and other papers. Keep them in your hand luggage, not in a checked bag.

Keep a paper copy of your insurance and invitation letter in your hand bag. If you also plan to fly with a lot of luggage, check the baggage allowance of your airline before you pack.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked on 14 October 2026, Pakistan time. We read the IRCC pages on super visa eligibility, how to apply, forms and documents, and length of stay on canada.ca. The pages were last updated in July and August 2026. We did not read the current minimum income figure or a Pakistan processing time. We did not submit an application. Fees and rules can change, so confirm on the IRCC site before you pay.
