A wooden gavel on a dark table, for the ATIR tax appeal cause list

The Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue (ATIR) cause list is at atir.gov.pk/Causelist. Choose the list type, the city (Islamabad, Lahore, Multan or Peshawar) and the bench, then pick a day or the full week, or search by your lawyer's 4-digit CC number. Each row shows the date, case title, tax period, appeal number and bench.

ATIR is the tribunal that hears appeals against Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) orders on income tax and sales tax, after the Commissioner (Appeals) stage. Missing your hearing can be costly, so knowing the date matters. We went through the cause list search on 31 October 2026. Here is how each list type works, what the columns mean, the catch for Karachi, and what to do when the search shows nothing.

ATIR publishes five kinds of cause list

The "Cause List Type" menu has five options: Urgent, Regular, Supplementary, All List Types and Old Cause Lists. The urgent list is always for the next day. Regular and supplementary lists cover the coming week, and old lists let you search past dates.

List typeWhat it coversDate choices on the site
Urgent Cause ListUrgent matters for the next dayAlways tomorrow; on 31 October it showed 1 November 2026
Regular Cause ListThe week's normal hearingsFull week (2 to 6 November 2026), one weekday, or a specific date
Supplementary Cause ListCases added after the regular listFull week, one weekday, or a specific date
All List TypesEvery list togetherAs above
Old Cause ListsPast hearingsA specific date or a date range

Always check the supplementary list as well as the regular one. A case missing from the regular list can be added later in the week.

Find your ATIR hearing date in 6 steps

Open the cause list page, pick the list type, city and bench, choose a date option, and press Search. If your appeal is filed through a lawyer or tax adviser, their 4-digit CC number narrows the list to their cases.

  1. Open atir.gov.pk and click Cause List.
  2. Choose "Regular Cause List" first, then repeat with "Supplementary Cause List".
  3. Pick the city where your appeal is heard: Islamabad, Multan, Lahore or Peshawar.
  4. Leave "All Benches" if you do not know the bench.
  5. Choose "Full Week" or a single day. Add your lawyer's 4-digit CC number if you have it.
  6. Press Search. Use "Download PDF" to save the list.
Six steps to find an ATIR tax appeal hearing date on the cause list

The CC number is a 4-digit number the tribunal assigns to each lawyer, according to the search form. Ask your counsel for it. It is the quickest way to see every case they have in a week.

Each row shows date, title, tax period, appeal number and bench

The result table has six columns: a serial number, the hearing date, the case title, the tax period, the appeal number, and "DB", which marks the bench. Match the appeal number to the one on your filing receipt, not just the name, since many taxpayers share names.

The tax period column matters for people with several appeals. One taxpayer can have separate appeals for different tax years, heard on different days. Check each year you appealed.

Your appeal number is on the copy of the appeal you or your adviser filed. If you appealed but never got a number, ask your adviser, because the cause list cannot be searched by CNIC or NTN.

The tribunal's website lists five benches: Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Multan. The cause list city menu, however, offers only Islamabad, Multan, Lahore and Peshawar. The appeals portal also lists only those four stations.

So a Karachi appellant cannot use the online cause list as it stands. Call the headquarters in Islamabad on 051-9216639 or 051-9224968, Monday to Saturday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, and ask how the Karachi bench publishes its list.

When the search says "No records found"

When we searched the regular list for the full week of 2 to 6 November in all four cities, early on 31 October, each search returned "No records found matching your criteria". That probably means the week's lists had not been uploaded yet. Try again later in the day before the hearing week.

  • Search again on the working day before the week starts.
  • Switch to "All List Types" to catch supplementary and urgent entries.
  • Try "All Benches" rather than a single bench.
  • Remove the CC number, in case your adviser's number is entered wrongly.
  • Call the headquarters if the list is still empty on the hearing day.

Do not treat an empty list as a sign that your appeal has gone away. The tribunal has strict rules once a case is fixed. Under the Income Tax Ordinance, missing the hearing schedule can end a stay on tax recovery, as set out in appealing to the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue.

The tribunal also says a new Appeals Management System is being launched and may take time to become fully working. Until it settles, keep your own record of every date.

Where ATIR fits in an FBR dispute

A tax dispute normally starts with an order from an FBR officer. The first appeal goes to the Commissioner (Appeals), explained in appealing an FBR income tax order. ATIR comes next. Before a hearing, the tribunal can also point a case towards alternative dispute resolution, covered in FBR's section 134A dispute resolution.

The ATIR website offers the appeal form as a Word file under Downloads, and its Judgements section holds decided cases.

Can I search the ATIR cause list by NTN or CNIC?

No. The search works by list type, city, bench, date and the lawyer's 4-digit CC number. Match your appeal number in the results.

What is the urgent cause list?

A list of urgent matters for the next day. The site says it is always for tomorrow.

Not at present. The city menu shows only Islamabad, Multan, Lahore and Peshawar. Call 051-9216639 for Karachi.

What are ATIR's office hours?

Monday to Saturday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, according to its website.

What does DB mean on the cause list?

It is the column that marks the bench hearing the case.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 31 October 2026, about 03:45 PKT. We read the ATIR cause list page, ran its search for the week of 2 to 6 November in all four cities, and read the ATIR home page, its Benches page and the appeals portal. Every search returned no records at that hour, so we could not see a filled list. We could not confirm how the Karachi bench publishes its list, or whether "DB" stands for division bench.
