One note on the V70 8 GB model. vivo prints Rs 179,999 on the V70 specification page, but its online store lists only the 12 GB versions. Ask a vivo outlet whether the 8 GB model is in stock before you plan around it.

The vivo V70 is the best phone under Rs 200,000

The V70 is the most complete phone in this range. It is slim and light, it charges fast and it survives water. vivo's specification page lists:

• A 6,500 mAh battery with 90W charging.
• A 6.59 inch AMOLED screen, 2750 x 1260, up to 120 Hz and 5,000 nits peak.
• IP68 and IP69 water and dust resistance.
• A 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.
• A weight of 187 to 194 grams and a 7.40 to 7.59 mm body.
• UFS 4.1 storage, which is faster than the UFS 2.2 found in cheaper phones.

The weak point is that the V70 has no memory card slot, by vivo's page. Buy the storage you need on day one.

Best battery: vivo V70 FE at Rs 154,999

The V70 FE costs Rs 45,000 less than the 12 GB V70 and has a bigger battery, 7,000 mAh. It also has a 200 MP main camera with OIS, which means optical image stabilisation that steadies the lens against shaky hands. vivo lists a Dimensity 7360-Turbo chip, 90W charging and a 6.83 inch AMOLED screen up to 120 Hz.

The 8 GB and 256 GB V70 FE is Rs 134,999, which pulls it into the range in the best phones under Rs 150,000 in Pakistan. Our view: if you do not game, the V70 FE 8 GB is the smart money in vivo's range.

Best for speed: realme GT 6 at Rs 149,999

The GT 6 has the fastest chip in this group, a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, plus 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. realme lists 120W charging, which it says reaches 50 per cent in 10 minutes. It also has a Sony LYT-808 main camera with OIS and a 6,000 nit peak screen.

The GT 6 is an older model and its IP65 rating is lower than the vivo phones. For gaming at this price it is the clear choice. For a phone you plan to keep for four years, look at the Samsung below.

Best for long updates: Samsung Galaxy A37 5G at Rs 164,999

Samsung promises up to 6 Android OS upgrades and 6 years of security updates for the A37 5G, by its Pakistan product page. That is longer than any other phone here. It also lists IP68, a 1080 x 2340 screen, a 5,000 mAh battery and Samsung Knox Vault security.

Its battery is the smallest in this list, and Samsung's page does not show the RAM. But Samsung's service network and resale value are strong reasons to pay. All Samsung prices are in the Samsung mobile price list in Pakistan.
