Pakistan Railways rents a luxury saloon portion for three passengers on three routes: Lahore to Karachi, Rawalpindi to Karachi and Lahore to Rawalpindi. Its page lists single journey fares from Rs 18,100 to Rs 110,900. To book, contact the Chief Commercial Manager (Passenger) office in Lahore on +92-42-9201736.

Most travellers buy a seat. A saloon is a different product. It is a private portion of a train with a bedroom, a sitting room and a kitchen, and the railway offers it only for travel, not as a place to stay. We opened the Pakistan Railways saloon page on 15 October 2026 and copied the facilities, routes, fares and contact number from it. The numbers are below, along with the questions to ask before you pay.

The saloon sleeps three and runs on three routes

The railway says the luxury saloon portion has a capacity of three passengers only. It runs on Lahore to Karachi, Rawalpindi to Karachi and Lahore to Rawalpindi. The page does not list other routes, so a request for Peshawar or Quetta would have to be taken up with the railway directly.

The saloon is attached to a regular train. That means you travel on the schedule of the train it is joined to, and you cannot choose your own departure time. Check the timetable first, using our steps to check Pakistan Railways train timings.

The page describes the portion as "smooth, refined" and says the railway aims for experienced staff and a good service. It does not publish a staff count, a menu or a meal price, so ask about food when you call.

RouteNon-stop trainMail or express train
Lahore to KarachiRs 90,200Rs 78,600
Lahore to RawalpindiRs 20,800Rs 18,100
Rawalpindi to KarachiRs 110,900Rs 96,600
Pakistan Railways luxury saloon single journey fares on three routes

Single journey fares run from Rs 18,100 to Rs 110,900

The saloon page lists a fare for a single journey on each route, with one price for non-stop trains and a lower one for mail and express trains. The cheapest is Lahore to Rawalpindi on a mail or express train. The dearest is Rawalpindi to Karachi on a non-stop train.

These are the figures shown on the page. The "View All Fares" link beside them opens a file whose name points to a fare list of 1 July 2019. That suggests the saloon fares may be old, so ask the railway to confirm the present amount in writing before you pay. We did not call or book.

The page does not say whether tax or booking charges are added. It also does not say if the fare covers the whole portion or each passenger. It reads as a price for the portion. If the fare covers the whole saloon and three people travel, Lahore to Karachi on a mail or express train works out at Rs 26,200 each. That is our arithmetic, not a railway figure.

The saloon has a bedroom, sitting room, kitchen and bathroom

The railway lists a separate bedroom, a sitting room with a sofa that turns into a bed, a refrigerator, a kitchen with a full set of crockery, and a toilet with shower, geyser and bath tub. The page does not list bedding or linen.

If you need more room, the railway says it also offers up to four AC Business coupes, each with six berths. That is a possible add-on for a family or a group. The page does not give a price for the extra coupes, so ask for it when you call.

For luggage, the saloon page does not give an allowance. Our guide to Pakistan Railways luggage allowance covers the general rules, but check with the railway whether they apply to a saloon.

Facilities listed for the Pakistan Railways luxury saloon: bedroom, sitting room, kitchen and bathroom

The saloon is for travel only and cannot be used as a stay

Pakistan Railways states that the saloon portion is offered only for travelling. The luxury carriage will not be available for stabling or residential use. In plain words, you cannot book it to sit in a siding or to sleep at a station.

This rule matters for events, shoots or business meetings. If you plan to hold a meeting in the carriage while it is parked, the answer on the page is no. Ask the commercial office before you plan anything that needs the carriage to stand still.

Booking goes through the Chief Commercial Manager office in Lahore

The page names the Chief Commercial Manager (Passenger) at the headquarters office in Lahore as the contact. The telephone number is +92-42-9201736 and the fax is +92-42-9201791. The page does not describe an online booking route for saloons.

  1. Pick your route and the train you want to travel on, and note its departure date.
  2. Call +92-42-9201736 and ask if the saloon is free on that train and date.
  3. Ask for the current fare for your route, and whether tax or other charges are added.
  4. Ask what the cancellation and refund terms are, and get the answer in writing.
  5. Ask how many people may travel and how extra AC Business coupes are priced.
  6. Keep the receipt and the booking confirmation with the train name and date.
Six steps to book a Pakistan Railways luxury saloon by contacting the Lahore commercial office

Seat fares for ordinary classes are on a different page. For those, use the steps in how to check Pakistan Railways fares. Refunds and cancellations for seats follow the rules in Pakistan Railways ticket refund rules, but the saloon terms may differ, so ask.

Questions to ask before you pay for a saloon

A saloon costs many times more than a seat, so a short list of questions saves money. Ask about the date, the train, the fare, the extras and the refund. Write down who you spoke to and when. The railway page leaves several details open.

Ask if the saloon is cleaned and stocked before departure. Ask if the geyser and refrigerator are working. Ask which stations the train stops at, and whether you may break the journey. Our note on breaking a journey and upgrading a ticket describes the seat rules, which may not apply to a saloon.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 15 October 2026. The routes, facilities, fares, note on travel only use and the contact numbers come from the Pakistan Railways saloon page, which we opened on that date. We did not call the number or make a booking. The "View All Fares" file is named for a 1 July 2019 fare list, so the fares may have changed. Cost per person is our arithmetic. Pakistan Railways can change any fare or term, so confirm before you pay.
