Short answer: Divide the kilometres you drive in a month by your vehicle's kilometres per litre, then multiply by the petrol price. At Rs 395.37 a litre, a bike that does 50 km a litre costs Rs 7.91 a kilometre, and a car that does 12 km a litre costs Rs 32.95 a kilometre.

Petrol in Pakistan changes on most working days, so a monthly budget built on last week's price drifts. This guide gives you one formula and a worked example for a bike and a car. Redo the sum whenever the price moves.

The price used here is OGRA's 13 October 2026 figure. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is the regulator that publishes the daily fuel price sheet. The mileage numbers (50 and 12 km a litre) are example values we chose, not official figures. Use your own.

The formula needs three numbers

You need your monthly distance, your vehicle's kilometres per litre and today's petrol price. Litres used equal distance divided by kilometres per litre. Monthly cost equals litres used times the price per litre.

For a bike that runs 1,000 km a month at 50 km a litre, litres used are 1,000 divided by 50, which is 20. The cost is 20 times Rs 395.37, which is Rs 7,907.40. Cost per kilometre is the price divided by kilometres per litre, so Rs 395.37 divided by 50 is Rs 7.91.

Work out your real kilometres per litre in four steps

The number printed in a brochure is a lab figure. Your own number is better, and it takes one tank to find it.

  1. Fill the tank to the top and reset the trip meter to zero.
  2. Drive as you normally do until the tank is about half empty.
  3. Fill to the top again and note the litres the pump shows.
  4. Divide the trip meter kilometres by those litres. The answer is your kilometres per litre.

If the pump shows 5 litres and the trip meter shows 250 km, you get 50 km a litre. Repeat once or twice, because traffic, load and tyre pressure change the result.

Four steps to find your own kilometres per litre for a bike or car in Pakistan

A bike at 50 km a litre costs Rs 3,954 for 500 km

The table shows monthly petrol cost at Rs 395.37 a litre for an example bike and an example car. Costs are rounded to the nearest rupee.

Distance a monthBike at 50 km a litreCar at 12 km a litre
500 km10 litres, Rs 3,95441.7 litres, Rs 16,474
1,000 km20 litres, Rs 7,90783.3 litres, Rs 32,948
1,500 km30 litres, Rs 11,861125 litres, Rs 49,421
Monthly petrol cost in Pakistan for a bike and a car at Rs 395.37 a litre

A car costs about four times as much to run per kilometre as a bike in this example. If you are choosing a bike for a daily commute, you can compare running costs with the motorcycle prices in Pakistan for October 2026.

Each Rs 1 on the price adds little for a bike and more for a car

A Rs 1 rise in the price per litre adds Rs 20 a month for the bike at 1,000 km, and Rs 83 for the car. Petrol is Rs 7.97 a litre higher than the Rs 387.40 of 1 October. That is about Rs 159 more a month for the bike and Rs 664 more for the car at 1,000 km.

Cost per kilometre in Pakistan: Rs 7.91 for a bike and Rs 32.95 for a car at Rs 395.37 a litre

The price moves because OGRA uses a seven working day average of the world price. That is why petrol does not fall the day oil falls. The yearly count of changes is in the report that fuel prices changed 67 times in 2026.

Use OGRA's sheet, not a pump board, for the price

Take the price from OGRA's own sheet, because it is the reference. The page to check the official petrol and diesel price on OGRA's daily sheet shows where to read it and what each line means.

If a pump charges above the sheet, or gives short measure, you can complain about a petrol pump. Also note that the sheet is the price before the secondary freight to the pump, which OGRA says is not in the figure. A pump near a depot and a pump far away can differ a little, so use your usual pump's board as a check on your sum.

Common questions

How do I calculate petrol cost per kilometre?

Divide the petrol price per litre by your kilometres per litre. At Rs 395.37 a litre and 50 km a litre, the cost is Rs 7.91 a kilometre.

How many litres does a bike use in a month?

It depends on distance and mileage. A bike doing 50 km a litre uses 20 litres for 1,000 km, so about 10 litres for a 500 km month.

What is a good kilometres per litre for a car?

There is no single figure. We used 12 km a litre as an example. Your own number from a full tank test is more useful than any brochure value.

Where do I find today's petrol price?

OGRA publishes a price sheet on its price publications page on working days. Use the petrol line marked "Total Petrol Price".

Does the cost change if the petrol price changes mid month?

Yes. Work out the cost for each part of the month at its own price, or recalculate when the price moves by more than a few rupees.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked on 13 October 2026, Pakistan time. We read OGRA's price publications page and its sheet effective 13 October 2026, which gives petrol at Rs 395.37 a litre. The mileage figures of 50 and 12 km a litre are example values, not official numbers. All monthly costs are our own arithmetic. We did not check pump prices at any station.
