ChatGPT Errors Hit Paid Plan Users in Pakistan Early on 5 November; OpenAI Applies Fix in 11 Minutes

Some paid ChatGPT users saw errors sending messages from 3:38 am PKT on 5 November 2026. OpenAI applied a fix by 3:49 am. What happened and what to do now.

Some users on paid ChatGPT plans got errors when sending messages early on 5 November 2026, Pakistan time, and OpenAI says it has applied a fix. OpenAI's status page marked the problem at 3:38 am PKT (22:38 UTC on 4 November) and said at 3:49 am PKT that a mitigation was in place and it was watching for recovery. The component affected was "Conversations", shown as degraded performance, not a full outage.

If you are on Plus, Pro, Go or Business and a message failed in that window, the cause was on OpenAI's side, not your internet or your card. We read the incident page on status.openai.com at about 4:10 am PKT. OpenAI had not yet marked it resolved at that time.

OpenAI found the fault and applied a fix within 11 minutes

OpenAI's status page shows two updates. The first, at 3:38 am PKT, said some users on paid ChatGPT plans may see errors when sending messages. The second, 11 minutes later, said a mitigation had been applied. The page did not give a cause.

OpenAI lists "Conversations" as the one affected part of ChatGPT, with the worst status at "degraded performance". That label means slower or failing requests for some users, not ChatGPT being down for everyone. Free plan users were not named in OpenAI's update.

OpenAI's update named only "users on paid ChatGPT plans", which covers Go, Plus, Pro and Business. It said "some" users, so not every paid account saw errors. OpenAI did not give a number of affected users or a region, so we cannot say how many Pakistani users were hit.

  • Named: users on paid ChatGPT plans.
  • Symptom: errors when sending messages.
  • Part affected: Conversations.
  • Not stated: the cause, the number of users, or the countries affected.

The timing matters in Pakistan. At 3:38 am PKT, most people here were asleep, but freelancers working for clients in the US, where it was evening, were in the middle of their work day. If a client deliverable was stuck in that window, the status page is your evidence that the delay was not yours.

Do these 5 things if ChatGPT still shows an error

Most failed messages go through once OpenAI's fix settles. If you still see errors after the fix, work through these steps in order. Do not delete the app, reset your account or buy a new plan because of this incident.

  1. Check the status page. Open status.openai.com and look at the Conversations line before changing anything on your side.
  2. Retry the message. Use the retry or regenerate button, or copy your prompt and send it again in a new chat.
  3. Refresh or restart. Reload chatgpt.com, or close and reopen the app.
  4. Save long prompts. Copy long text to Notes before you send it, so a failed send does not lose your work.
  5. Still failing hours later? Follow the full fix list in our guide to ChatGPT not working in Pakistan.

Errors that only you see, long after the status page turns green, usually have a different cause, such as a usage limit, a browser extension or a login problem. Usage limits in particular can look like errors; our guide to GPT-6 usage limits by plan explains the messages.

Your plan and your chats are not affected by the errors

OpenAI's update describes failed message sends, not lost accounts or lost subscriptions. Nothing on the status page says chats were deleted or plans were changed. If your plan suddenly shows Free, that is a separate account problem, not this incident.

The most common reason for a paid plan showing Free is being signed in to the wrong ChatGPT account, especially now that the app can keep 2 accounts signed in. See our guide on what to do when ChatGPT Plus shows Free. Do not pay again while you check, because OpenAI says one subscription cannot be moved between accounts.

How to read OpenAI's status page yourself

OpenAI's status page lists each part of its service, such as Conversations, Login, Voice mode, Files and Codex, with a colour and a label. During an incident, the page shows dated updates in steps: Identified, Monitoring and then Resolved. Check which time zone the page shows before you compare times; PKT is UTC plus 5 hours.

  • Identified: OpenAI knows the cause or the part affected and is working on it.
  • Monitoring: a fix is in place and OpenAI is checking that it holds.
  • Resolved: OpenAI considers the incident over.
  • Degraded performance: the service works but slower or with some errors.
  • Full outage: the part does not work for most users.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read OpenAI's incident page "Elevated error rates across paid ChatGPT plans" on status.openai.com at about 4:10 am PKT on 5 November 2026, and OpenAI's refund and subscription help pages. PKT times are converted from the page's UTC timestamps (22:38:12 and 22:49:34 UTC). We will update this article if OpenAI marks the incident resolved or gives a cause.
