ChatGPT Not Working in Pakistan: Is It Banned? 8 Fixes for Every Error (2026)
ChatGPT is not banned in Pakistan. Check OpenAI's status page, then try these 8 fixes for limits, VPN loops, login codes and app crashes. Every error explained.

ChatGPT is not banned in Pakistan. Pakistan is on OpenAI's own list of supported countries, so when ChatGPT stops working the cause is almost always an OpenAI outage, your connection, a VPN, an old app or a usage limit. Check status.openai.com first. If it shows all green, the fault is on your side and one of the eight fixes below will clear it.
The table that follows matches each common error message to its cause, so you can skip straight to your own. We read OpenAI's status page, supported countries list and plan limits on 27 October 2026.
ChatGPT is legal and supported in Pakistan
OpenAI's supported countries and territories list includes Pakistan. You can sign up with a Pakistani phone number and email, and pay with a Pakistani card. No VPN is needed, and using one can cause more problems than it solves.
A quick way to tell a block from a fault: a real nationwide block would stop ChatGPT on every network at once, Jazz, Zong, Ufone, Telenor and every fibre provider. If ChatGPT fails on your home Wi-Fi but works on mobile data, the problem is your connection, not a ban.
Check OpenAI's status page before you change anything
Go to status.openai.com. It shows live status for ChatGPT, the API and Codex, part by part, including Login, Conversations, Voice mode and File uploads. If a part is marked down, wait. Nothing on your phone will fix an outage.
On 27 October 2026 the page said OpenAI was fully operational. It listed 16 ChatGPT components with 99.70 per cent uptime from July to October 2026. That sounds high, but 0.3 per cent of a quarter is still more than six hours of trouble. So an outage is rare, but not so rare that you should rule it out.

Each ChatGPT error points to a different cause
The wording of the error tells you where to look. A limit message is about your plan, a "verify you are human" loop is usually a VPN or browser issue, and "something went wrong" is usually OpenAI's side or a weak connection.
| What you see | Likely cause | First fix |
|---|---|---|
| "Something went wrong" or a spinning reply | OpenAI outage or weak internet | Check status page, then switch network |
| A message that you have reached your limit | Five hour or weekly plan limit | Wait for the reset time shown, or switch model |
| "Verify you are human" that repeats | VPN, browser extension or blocked cookies | Turn off VPN, try a private window |
| Service not available in your country | VPN set to an unsupported country | Turn the VPN off |
| Login code never arrives | Email filter or wrong sign in method | Check spam, use the same method you signed up with |
| App closes or shows a blank screen | Old app version or full storage | Update the app, clear cache |
Eight fixes clear most ChatGPT problems in Pakistan
Work through these in order. Each takes under a minute, and the first three solve most cases. Stop when ChatGPT works again.
- Check status.openai.com. If ChatGPT is marked down, wait for OpenAI to fix it.
- Switch your connection. Move from Wi-Fi to mobile data, or the other way round. If it works on one, restart the router or call your provider.
- Turn off any VPN or proxy. A VPN can make you look like you are in a country OpenAI does not serve, and it often triggers repeated human checks.
- Update the app. Install the latest ChatGPT version from the Play Store or App Store.
- Try a private browser window. If chatgpt.com works there, an extension or old cookies are the problem. Clear cookies for chatgpt.com only.
- Sign out and sign in again with the same method you used at sign up: Google, Apple, Microsoft or email.
- Check your limit. If you see a limit message, note the reset time. On the iPhone app, version 1.2026.286 onwards, the reset time shows directly in the chat.
- Start a new chat. Very long chats with many files can stall. A fresh chat often answers at once.

Usage limits look like errors but are not faults
Every ChatGPT plan has limits, counted in five hour windows with weekly caps on top. When you run out, ChatGPT stops or switches model. Waiting for the reset time fixes it. Paying for a higher plan raises the ceiling.
Free and Go users run on GPT-6 Luna. Plus costs $20 a month and adds the stronger models, each with its own allowance. The exact message ranges are in the GPT-6 usage limits for each plan. If you hit the free limit every day, the comparison of ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude free plans shows which other free tool can carry the overflow.
Cheap shared ChatGPT Plus accounts are a common trap
Sellers on Facebook and WhatsApp offer "ChatGPT Plus for Rs 500" on a shared login. Everyone on that account can read your chats, and the seller can change the password at any time. When that happens, ChatGPT stops working for you and there is nobody to complain to.
The same goes for "ChatGPT Pro APK" files outside the Play Store. OpenAI's Android app is on Google Play. Anything else can steal your Google login or your banking SMS codes. If you suspect someone else has used your account, follow the steps to check ChatGPT login activity and lock your account.

Common questions
Is ChatGPT banned in Pakistan?
No. OpenAI lists Pakistan as a supported country, and ChatGPT works on Pakistani mobile networks and fibre connections.
Why does ChatGPT say it is not available in my country?
Usually a VPN is set to a country OpenAI does not serve. Turn the VPN off and reload the page.
Why is ChatGPT not working on Wi-Fi but working on mobile data?
The fault is in your home connection or router. Restart the router, and if it continues, report it to your internet provider.
How do I know if ChatGPT is down for everyone?
Open status.openai.com. It shows the live status of Login, Conversations and other ChatGPT parts.
Does ChatGPT need a VPN in Pakistan?
No. A VPN is not needed and often causes repeated "verify you are human" checks.
What should I use while ChatGPT is down?
Gemini, Claude or DeepSeek's free chat all have free plans that work in Pakistan.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
We read OpenAI's status page and OpenAI's supported countries list on 27 October 2026 at about 01:00 PKT, together with OpenAI's ChatGPT pricing and limits page and its changelog entry of 22 October 2026 on usage limit messages. The uptime figure is OpenAI's own for July to October 2026. The six hour figure is our arithmetic: 0.3 per cent of about 92 days is roughly 6.6 hours. The error causes in the table are general troubleshooting, not OpenAI's published list, because OpenAI's help centre refused our connection. We could not read the PTA's website from our connection, so we cite no PTA statement.
