Short answer: Aaghosh pays pregnant and breastfeeding women, and mothers of children under two, up to Rs 38,000 in stages for clinic visits, a safe delivery and vaccines. It covers 13 districts of Punjab only. You register at your nearest public health centre and need a valid CNIC. It costs nothing, and the helpline is 1221.

Aaghosh pays up to Rs 38,000 in seven steps

The Punjab Social Protection Authority (PSPA) runs Aaghosh with the Health and Population Department. Cash comes in seven parts, tied to visits and deliveries, so a mother who skips the visits loses the matching payment. The total adds up to Rs 38,000.

Women in 13 named districts with a CNIC qualify

You qualify if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or the mother of a child under two, hold a valid CNIC and live in a target district. The districts are Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa, Khushab, Kot Addu, Layyah, Lodhran, Mianwali, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur.

No BISP card is needed, says the FAQ. It also says the programme is run by the PSPA, not by BISP. A woman under 18 with no CNIC can still get check-ups and free medicines, but cannot join the cash part. Twins are registered.

A woman who becomes pregnant again within two years of delivery cannot rejoin, says the FAQ, so the cash does not repeat each pregnancy. Mothers in a district outside the list are not covered, even in Punjab. If you live elsewhere, the PESSI maternity benefit may suit a worker in a registered job.

Registration happens at your nearest public health centre

You register at a Basic Health Unit or Rural Health Centre, where the Lady Health Visitor enters you in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) app. Registration is not done at home. The mobile number given at that time receives your messages.

  1. Take your CNIC to the nearest BHU or RHC.
  2. Ask the Lady Health Visitor to register you in Aaghosh.
  3. Give a mobile number that works. A husband's or mother-in-law's number is allowed.
  4. Attend all four antenatal visits on the dates given.
  5. Deliver at a government facility, so the delivery payment is released.
  6. Get the newborn check-up and both measles vaccines on time.

Keeping the vaccine dates also protects the child. See the baby vaccination schedule in Pakistan for the standard timetable.

Check your registration and balance on the payment portal

After registration you can check your status and balance at payment.pspa.gop.pk, which is the portal named in the project's FAQ. A message also goes to your registered mobile. Our connection could not open the portal on 11 October 2026, so we cannot say how it looks.

If the portal does not load for you either, call 1221. The FAQ says registration goes through verification and approval stages, and that payment depends on funds being available. It gives no number of days. Do not expect the full amount at once.

Cash is collected from an agent with a fingerprint check

The FAQ says the money is paid through local JazzCash agents, and the registered woman must give her own fingerprint. A representative cannot collect for her. This is why a working mobile number and CNIC matter more than any other paper.

If your fingerprint will not verify, the FAQ tells you to send your CNIC number to the helpline so the case can be passed to the agent company. Do not hand your CNIC and SIM to an agent or neighbour to "fix it". Do not pay anyone.

Registration is free and complaints have a form

The FAQ says there is no fee for Aaghosh registration. If anyone asks for money, call 1221 and report it. You can also write by post, visit the PSPA head office, or use the complaint form on the project website, which lists problems such as payment not received for visits.

The head office is open Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. The 1221 line works around the clock, every day. The contact page lists complaints@pspa.punjab.gov.pk. For a related nutrition scheme in other provinces, see Ehsaas Nashonuma.

Which districts does Aaghosh cover?

Thirteen: Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa, Khushab, Kot Addu, Layyah, Lodhran, Mianwali, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur.

Do I need a BISP card?

No. The FAQ says a BISP card is not needed and the programme is separate from BISP.

No. The registered woman's own fingerprint is needed at the agent.

What if I have no CNIC?

You can still get check-ups and free medicines, but not the cash, says the FAQ. Get a CNIC from NADRA as soon as you are eligible.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked on Sunday 11 October 2026. We read the PSPA's Aaghosh Program page, its home and contact pages, and the project's FAQ page and complaint form. None carries a date. We did not call 1221 and could not open the payment portal from our connection.
