To use Canada's Express Entry from Pakistan, most people need the Federal Skilled Worker Program: language level CLB 7, one year of skilled work in the last 10 years, a secondary school education and proof of settlement funds. The Canadian Experience Class needs a year of work inside Canada, so it rarely fits someone still in Pakistan. Check these four points before you pay anyone.

Express Entry is not a visa. It is an online pool. You make a profile, Canada ranks you, and it invites the highest ranked people to apply for permanent residence. This guide covers the first step only: whether you can enter the pool at all.

Express Entry has three programmes and only some fit Pakistan

Express Entry manages three programmes: the Canadian Experience Class, the Federal Skilled Worker Program and the Federal Skilled Trades Program. For a person living in Pakistan, the skilled worker programme is usually the one that applies.

The Canadian Experience Class needs one year of work in Canada within the last 3 years. The Federal Skilled Trades Program needs a job offer or a provincial trade certificate. Both are narrow for an applicant abroad.

ProgrammeWork experienceLanguage level (CLB)
Canadian Experience Class1 year in Canada, last 3 yearsCLB 7 for TEER 0 or 1, CLB 5 for TEER 2 or 3
Federal Skilled Worker1 year continuous, last 10 yearsCLB 7 in all abilities
Federal Skilled Trades2 years, last 5 yearsCLB 5 speaking and listening, CLB 4 reading and writing

These figures come from the Government of Canada's Express Entry eligibility page, which we read on 8 October 2026. CLB means Canadian Language Benchmark, the scale Canada uses to compare your English or French test result.

Check the four entry points for the skilled worker programme

For the Federal Skilled Worker Program, you need one continuous year of skilled work in the last 10 years, CLB 7 in every language ability, a secondary education, and, unless you have a valid job offer, proof of funds. Meet all four before making a profile.

  1. Count your skilled work: one year, continuous, in the last 10 years.
  2. Book an approved language test and aim for CLB 7 in speaking, listening, reading and writing.
  3. Collect your education papers. The page asks for secondary education for this programme.
  4. Check your savings against the funds table below.
  5. Gather your passport, work letters and police certificates.

The page lists the documents you will need as a passport, language test results, an educational credential assessment for the skilled worker programme, proof of work experience, proof of funds and police certificates. A passport with at least 6 months of validity is recommended.

Your test fee and score matter here. Our guides to the IELTS fee in Pakistan and the PTE fee in Pakistan cover what the tests cost, but check Canada's list of approved tests before you book.

Proof of funds is the point where Pakistani applicants get stuck

You must show money that is available to you when you apply and when the visa is issued. The page we read lists amounts by family size, dated 7 July 2025. Borrowed money and property equity do not count.

Family sizeFunds required (CAD)
1 person15,263
2 people19,001
3 people23,360
4 people28,362
5 people32,168

The amounts on the page we read carry a July 2025 date. Canada updates them from time to time, so open the proof of funds page on canada.ca before you plan your savings. We could not confirm a newer table on 8 October 2026.

You are exempt from the funds rule if you apply through the Canadian Experience Class, or if you hold a valid job offer and work authorisation. Bank letters must be on letterhead and show account details, balances over 6 months and any debts. Joint accounts with a spouse are accepted, but you must prove access to funds held in your spouse's name alone.

Reminder that borrowed money and property do not count as Express Entry proof of funds

Know what we could not confirm before you spend money

Canada publishes the score of the lowest ranked person invited in every round. We could not read that table on 8 October 2026, so we give no cut off score. Check the rounds page yourself before you decide your plan.

We also could not confirm the profile fee, the days you have to accept an invitation, or how long a profile stays valid. Do not trust any agent who quotes these without a link to canada.ca.

If you are weighing other routes, the guides to the Canada visitor visa from Pakistan and the Canada study permit from Pakistan explain the temporary options. Express Entry is permanent residence, and it is free to enter the pool. Be careful of anyone who sells a guaranteed invitation. The Karachi Canada work visa scam shows what that looks like.

Common questions about Express Entry from Pakistan

Do I need a job offer for Express Entry?

Not for the skilled worker programme or the Canadian Experience Class. A job offer is required for the skilled trades programme, either a one year offer or a provincial trade certificate.

Can I apply with IELTS?

Express Entry asks for approved language test results at a set CLB level. Check Canada's list of approved tests before booking, because not every test is accepted.

Is the Canadian Experience Class open to me in Pakistan?

Only if you have worked in Canada. It needs one year of Canadian work within the last 3 years, so it usually does not apply to someone who has never worked there.

Do I need proof of funds if I have a job offer?

No. The page says people with a valid job offer and work authorisation are exempt, as are applicants through the Canadian Experience Class.

Can I use a loan to show funds?

No. The page says funds must be available to you and that borrowed money and real estate equity do not count.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 8 October 2026 on canada.ca: the Express Entry eligibility page, the proof of funds page (amounts dated 7 July 2025) and the documents page. The rounds of invitations table would not load for us, so we give no cut off scores. Fees, invitation deadlines and profile validity were not confirmed.
