How to check an FIR online in Pakistan by number or CNIC

An FIR check online in Pakistan gets you one thing: a copy of an FIR you are party to, ordered by FIR number and CNIC. No police force lets the public search FIRs by CNIC. Punjab issues the copy free through a Police Khidmat Markaz, Islamabad Police lists Rs 200 and one working day, KP takes online FIR requests with a tracking ID, and Sindh's services portal was under maintenance when we checked on 17 September 2026.

Type "FIR check online" into a search box and half the results promise to show you every case registered against a CNIC. We opened the websites of all four police forces on 17 September 2026 and none of them has that service. What they have is narrower and more useful: a way to get your own FIR copy without going to the station where it was lodged, and in two provinces a way to lodge or track a complaint online.

The Punjab Police home page carries a news item dated 15 September 2026 saying its IGP Complaint Centre on 1787 resolved more than 93,000 complaints this year. That is the scale of the system you are dealing with. Here is what each force actually offers, what you need, and what each portal was doing on the day.

What does an FIR check online actually give you?

It gives you a certified copy of an FIR you filed or are named in, and in some forces the status of a complaint you lodged. It does not give you a list of FIRs against a person. That record exists, in Punjab's Criminal Record Management System, but PITB describes it as a tool for investigation officers and for issuing character certificates, not a public search.

An FIR, or First Information Report, is the police record of a cognizable offence, meaning one where police can act without a court order. Once registered it belongs to a police station and a year, and every service below asks you for both.

The word "status" is what confuses people. Punjab's front desks issue an e-tag when they take an application, and Sindh's complaint system issues a tracking number. Those track a complaint, which is the stage before an FIR. Once an FIR exists, the thing you can get is the copy.

How do you get a copy of an FIR in Punjab?

Go to a Police Khidmat Markaz, or PKM, with your CNIC and the FIR details. The PKM services page says the copy is free, is issued by hand, and takes "around 5 to 10 minutes, on spot registration". The Punjab Police website's own "Copy of FIR" button links straight to the PKM site, so this is the official route.

Steps to get a copy of an FIR at a Police Khidmat Markaz in Punjab

The PKM page lists four things to bring:

  • Original CNIC and two photocopies.
  • The reason you need the copy.
  • The FIR number and the police station where it was registered.
  • Copies of any relevant documents, for example an insurance claim form or a court notice.

Two other doors open on the same service. The Punjab Police Pakistan app, built by PITB and last updated on the Play Store on 23 June 2026, lists Copy of FIR among its services, and asks for the same details plus a delivery address. And Dastak, the province's one window platform, lists "Copy of FIR" under Punjab Police alongside crime reports, loss reports and character certificates. If you would rather not visit at all, the police services in Punjab that need no station visit now cover most of the paperwork stage.

A copy is not the same as registration. Lodging the FIR still happens at the station or through 15, because the police have to verify the complainant. Front desks at every Punjab station are staffed by civilian IT branch officials, and the Complaint Management System gives you an e-tag to follow up with.

How do you get a copy of an FIR from Islamabad Police?

Islamabad Police has the most complete online page of the four. Its Copy of FIR service asks for the FIR reference number and the applicant's CNIC, states that "only complainant who filed the FIR can apply", and says the copy is "issued immediately or via email after verification".

The same page publishes the cost and the clock: an application fee of Rs 200 payable at the counter, and one working day as standard processing. Under "How to apply" it says to visit a Police Khidmat Markaz, and below that it carries a full online form with your name, parentage, CNIC, contact, addresses, FIR number, year, and a dropdown of 27 police stations from Aabpara to the Women Police Station.

Islamabad Police lists Rs 200 for a certified FIR copy

One correction to our own earlier coverage. Our January 2026 page on checking an FIR in Islamabad described the PKM copy as free and immediate. The police page we read on 17 September 2026 says Rs 200 and one working day. The police page is the authority, so budget for the fee and a day. The Islamabad helplines on the page are 15 for emergencies, 1815 for the online women police station, 1715 for the IGP complaint cell and 1915 for traffic.

What does Sindh Police offer, and what was down?

Sindh Police runs its citizen services through a single sign-in portal, and on 17 September 2026 that portal redirected to a page reading "Under Maintenance - DAROGHA Portal". We could not test its FIR copy service, so we are not describing it. What did answer was the Police Record Verification System at prvs.sindhpolice.gov.pk, which tracks a verification application by CNIC and case ID, and the main sindhpolice.gov.pk site, which links to special branch verification and the TRACS citizen app.

For a complaint lodged with Sindh Police, the IGP Complaint Management System tracks it by tracking number and CNIC, and for a physical FIR copy the station or the CPLC in Karachi remains the route. The steps for checking FIR status in Sindh include the 25 April 2025 cut-off between the old and new complaint portals. Check whether the services portal is back before you rely on it.

Can you register or check an FIR online with KP Police?

You can submit an online FIR request and get a tracking ID, which is more than Punjab or Sindh offer at the registration stage. The KP Police page titled "Register Online FIR" gives five steps: open kppolice.gov.pk, click Online FIR under Public Services or go to complaints.kppolice.gov.pk/online-fir, fill the form with every field marked with an asterisk, submit, and note the tracking ID shown on success. The page then says the request "is processed and appropriate action is taken depending on the nature" of it.

That last line matters. An online request is not a registered FIR until police act on it. The form sits on the Police Access Service, PAS, which is KP's complaint system, and both pages answered normally when we opened them. What KP does not list is an FIR copy service or any CNIC search. Its public services are traffic challan verification, driving licence verification, FSL case status and complaints against police.

Why can nobody search FIRs by CNIC?

Because the CNIC-linked record is an investigation tool, and the police issue certificates about it rather than opening it. PITB's own description of the Criminal Record Management System says it holds a complete criminal profile "that can be easily fetched via CNIC" by an investigation officer, and that a character certificate is refused to anyone with a criminal history in it. Employers and embassies get their answer through that certificate, which you apply for about yourself; the police character certificate is now applied for online nationwide.

Warning signs of fake FIR check by CNIC websites in Pakistan

So treat any page that offers to show FIRs against any CNIC as a scam or a data harvest. One "complete guide" we read quotes Rs 2,000 for Punjab and Rs 5,000 for other provinces as the fee for such a check. No police page we read charges anything of the kind, and the only published fees are Rs 200 in Islamabad and nothing in Punjab.

If you are the person named in an FIR, the copy matters more than any search, because it is the document a lawyer reads first. Your rights when you are arrested in Pakistan start with knowing the section and the station, and both are on the first page of the FIR.

What if you do not know the FIR number?

  1. Ask the station's front desk, in Punjab, for the FIR number by the complainant's name and the date. The Police Station Record Management System indexes FIRs by station and year.
  2. Check any court paper. A bail order, a summons or a charge sheet quotes the FIR number and the section.
  3. Use the high court case search if a case has reached court. The Lahore and Islamabad High Court case status pages accept an FIR number and year as a search field, and show the case stage, though not the FIR text.
  4. Call the complaint line if the station will not help: 1787 in Punjab, 1715 in Islamabad.
  5. Do not pay a third party to "find" it. The FIR number is not secret from the parties, and the police desk gives it free.

Common questions about checking an FIR online

Can I check an FIR online by CNIC in Pakistan?

No. None of the four police websites offers a public search by CNIC. You can get a copy of an FIR you are party to, using the FIR number and your CNIC.

How much does an FIR copy cost?

Punjab's PKM page says it is free. Islamabad Police lists Rs 200 payable at the counter. Sindh and KP do not publish an FIR copy fee on the pages we read.

How long does a copy take?

Punjab says around 5 to 10 minutes on the spot. Islamabad says one working day, with the copy issued immediately or by email after verification.

Can I get a copy of someone else's FIR?

Islamabad says only the complainant can apply. Punjab asks for your reason and related documents, so a party to the case with a legitimate reason is the expected applicant.

Can I register an FIR online?

KP Police takes an online FIR request with a tracking ID. Elsewhere you lodge a complaint online or by phone and the FIR is registered at the station after verification.

Was the Sindh Police portal working?

Not on 17 September 2026. The services portal redirected to an under maintenance page, while the Police Record Verification System was up.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 17 September 2026. We read punjabpolice.gov.pk, whose Copy of FIR button links to the Police Khidmat Markaz site and whose home page describes the IGP Complaint Centre on 1787, the front desks, the Complaint Management System e-tags and the Police Station Record Management System, and carried a 15 September 2026 item on 93,000 complaints resolved; the PKM services page at pkm.punjab.gov.pk for the Copy of FIR documents, the free fee, the 5 to 10 minute turnaround and delivery by hand; the Dastak services list at dastak.punjab.gov.pk, which lists Copy of FIR under Punjab Police; the Play Store listing of the Punjab Police Pakistan app by PITB, updated 23 June 2026; the Islamabad Police Copy of FIR page at islamabadpolice.gov.pk/srv-fir.php for the FIR reference number and CNIC requirement, the complainant-only rule, the Rs 200 fee, the one working day processing, the email issue, the online form and the helplines 15, 1815, 1715 and 1915; the Sindh Police services portal, which redirected to an under maintenance page, the Police Record Verification System at prvs.sindhpolice.gov.pk and sindhpolice.gov.pk; the KP Police Register Online FIR page and the Police Access Service form at complaints.kppolice.gov.pk/online-fir; and PITB's Criminal Record Management System page. The Punjab complaint management site at cms.punjabpolice.gov.pk did not answer. Nothing in this article is taken from the third party FIR check sites, and their fee claims are cited only as examples to distrust. Our January 2026 Islamabad page gave the copy as free; the police page now says Rs 200, and that page governs.
