Check Your Iqama Validity in Saudi Arabia: Exit Re-entry and Final Exit Rules for Pakistanis
Check your iqama expiry on Absher or Muqeem, avoid the SAR 500 late renewal fine, and know the exit re-entry and free final exit rules for Pakistanis in Saudi.

Check your iqama validity on Absher, the Saudi Ministry of Interior's e-services platform, or ask your employer to check it on the Muqeem portal. Renew it at least three days before it expires: a first late renewal costs SAR 500. A final exit visa is free, but your iqama must have at least 30 days left.
An iqama, called "hawiyat muqeem" or resident ID by the Saudi authorities, is the card that makes your stay in Saudi Arabia legal. For a Pakistani working there, its expiry date controls almost everything else: whether you can fly home on leave, whether you can leave for good, and whether you face a fine.
| What you need | Where it is done | Official cost |
|---|---|---|
| Check iqama validity | Absher or Muqeem | Free to check |
| Renew iqama | Absher or Muqeem, by the sponsor | Fees set by regulation |
| Late iqama renewal | Fine applied by Jawazat | SAR 500, then SAR 1,000 |
| Exit re-entry visa | Absher or Muqeem, by the sponsor | Reported SAR 200 for 2 months |
| Final exit visa | Absher or Muqeem, by the sponsor | Free |
Two official ways to check your iqama validity
The General Directorate of Passports says you can confirm how long your iqama is valid, and renew it, through Absher or through the Muqeem portal. Absher is for individuals and families. Muqeem is for companies and their employees. No third-party website is needed.
Use the route that fits you:
- On Absher. Log in to your own Absher individuals account at absher.sa. The Directorate says the validity of your resident ID can be confirmed there.
- Through your employer on Muqeem. Muqeem lets a registered company see its resident employees' data and complete their passport transactions. If you work for a company, its HR or government relations officer can read your iqama expiry date there.
- Muqeem's public visa check. The Muqeem home page also offers a public "Visa Validity" check, listed next to the login. Use it to confirm that an exit re-entry or final exit visa issued for you is real and still valid.
- Call 992. The Directorate has named 992 for inquiries from holders of final exit and other visas.
We could not open Absher or the Saudi unified portal my.gov.sa from Pakistan; both refused our requests. The routes above are as the Directorate describes them.

A late iqama renewal costs SAR 500 the first time
The Directorate asks residents to renew the iqama at least three days before it expires. A first failure to renew carries a SAR 500 fine. A second doubles it to SAR 1,000. A third leads to deportation from the Kingdom.
The Directorate set out these penalties in February 2020. We found no later official statement changing them. Renewal itself is done by your sponsor, the employer or head of household, through Absher or Muqeem after paying the fees set by regulation. Check the date yourself every few months.
Being outside Saudi Arabia does not stop a renewal. Since January 2025, the Directorate allows dependants of residents and domestic workers who are abroad to renew their iqama online, after paying the regular fees.

An exit re-entry visa lets you leave and come back
An exit re-entry visa is the permission you need to leave Saudi Arabia on leave and return on the same iqama. Your sponsor issues it on Absher or Muqeem. It comes as single or multiple entry, and residents already abroad can have it extended online.
The fee is widely reported as SAR 200 for a single exit re-entry visa of up to two months, plus SAR 100 for each extra month. We could not confirm this on Absher or my.gov.sa, so treat it as reported and ask your employer for the exact charge before you book a ticket.
Missing your return date is the costly mistake. The Pakistan Consulate General in Jeddah warns that a worker who leaves on exit re-entry and does not return in time is banned for three years from entering Saudi Arabia on any work visa. If you will be late, ask your sponsor to extend the visa from inside the Kingdom before it expires.

A final exit visa is free but needs 30 days on your iqama
A final exit visa ends your residency for good. The Directorate says it is free of charge. It can only be issued if your iqama has at least 30 days left. Your employer or head of household issues it on Absher or Muqeem.
How long the visa lasts depends on your iqama:
- Iqama valid for less than 30 days: no final exit visa until the iqama is renewed.
- Iqama valid for 30 to 60 days: the visa lasts until your iqama expires.
- Iqama valid for 60 days or more: the visa lasts 60 days only.
Leave before that date. The Jeddah consulate says a worker who stays past the two months after a final exit is treated as illegal and, if arrested, may be jailed and deported. Getting a fresh final exit then means going back to the sponsor and paying penalties.
The consulate also says any unpaid fine, including a traffic fine, blocks both exit re-entry and final exit until it is paid. Clear your fines first.

You can complain if your sponsor refuses a final exit
Finish your contract and give two months' notice first. If the sponsor still refuses, the Jeddah consulate says you can file a final exit complaint at the Labour Office, and its legal section will guide you. It adds that domestic workers, drivers and farm workers get final exit from Jawazat, the passports directorate, while company workers get it through the Labour Office.
If a sponsor has wrongly reported you as absconding, known as "huroob", the consulate says the sponsor can cancel it within 20 days without penalty. After that you must prove it wrong at the Labour Office. The consulate's Welfare Wing helps with both cases, and the Pakistan Embassy's emergency numbers in Saudi Arabia reach the same welfare teams. A worker still owed salary after leaving can also try to recover unpaid dues from abroad.
Before you fly home on final exit, two papers help. The consulate's Commercial Section issues a Transfer of Residence certificate, which gives some customs concessions at Pakistani airports, once you show the final exit paper. The Welfare Wing issues an endorsement letter for a Saudi police clearance certificate, which the consulate says is usually helpful for later immigration applications. If your passport is lost or expired at that point, an emergency travel document in Jeddah gets you home.

Common questions
How do I check my iqama expiry date?
Log in to your Absher individuals account, or ask your employer to check it on the Muqeem portal. The Directorate of Passports names both as the official routes.

SAR 500 for the first late renewal, SAR 1,000 for the second, and deportation for the third, as the Directorate of Passports stated in February 2020.
Is the final exit visa free?
Yes. The Directorate said in January 2025 that issuing a final exit visa is free of charge.
Can I get a final exit if my iqama expires next week?
No. The iqama needs at least 30 days of validity. Your sponsor must renew it first.
What happens if I do not return on my exit re-entry visa?
The Jeddah consulate says you are banned for three years from entering Saudi Arabia on a work visa.
Can I check if my exit re-entry visa is real?
Yes. Use the Visa Validity check on the Muqeem portal's home page, or call 992.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 10 October 2026. The final exit rules and the fact that it is free are from the Saudi Press Agency statement of the General Directorate of Passports of 9 January 2025. Online renewal and exit re-entry extension from abroad are from its statement of 8 January 2025. The iqama fines and the three day advice are from its Arabic statement of 17 February 2020, and the 992 line from its statement of 29 March 2026. Muqeem's Visa Validity check is on the Muqeem portal. The exit re-entry ban, huroob, fines, Labour Office and final exit papers are from the Consulate General of Pakistan, Jeddah. Absher and my.gov.sa refused our requests, so the exit re-entry fee is reported, not confirmed.
