Check If a Phone Brand Is Made in a PTA-Authorised Factory in Pakistan: 39 Entries Listed
PTA lists the companies allowed to make phones in Pakistan, each with a PTA/MDM number. See how to check a made in Pakistan claim and the per device import fee.

Short answer: PTA publishes a master list of companies authorised to make mobile phones in Pakistan. The 12 August 2026 edition has 39 numbered entries, with factories in Lahore, Karachi, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Mardan. Each holds an authorisation number that starts PTA/MDM. If a seller says a phone is "made in Pakistan", match the maker to that list.
Shops tag phones as "locally made" or "assembled in Pakistan" to sound safer or cheaper. The claim is easy to make and hard to check, unless you know that PTA keeps a register of authorised makers.
We downloaded PTA's Mobile Device Manufacturing (MDM) authorisation procedure, its Updated MDM Contact List Master 2026 dated 12 August 2026, and its schedule of administrative charges on 14 October 2026 and read all three.
PTA authorises each local phone maker for 10 years
Under the Mobile Device Manufacturing Regulations, 2021, PTA grants an authorisation to make mobile devices in Pakistan. The term is 10 years and can be renewed on six months' notice. The application fee is US$100, or the rupee equivalent, and it is not refunded.
A foreign brand can take part only through a local company or a joint venture, and the local share must be at least 33 per cent. The applicant must also promise that phones made here carry GSMA device codes that belong to Pakistan, not to another country.
The applicant must show a letter from the brand or manufacturer. PTA's checklist says the letter must state that manufacturing at the plant is for that brand only. The master list nonetheless shows several companies with more than one brand name, so do not assume one factory means one brand.
What the 12 August 2026 master list shows
The list gives each company, its authorisation number, approval date, brand names, technology (2G, 3G or 4G), contact person and factory address. Its 39 numbered entries run from Young Tech in Rawat, Rawalpindi, approved on 18 March 2021, to entries approved in 2026.
| What the list records | Example from the file |
|---|---|
| Authorisation number | Format PTA/MDM-1/2818/2021 |
| Technology | 2G, 3G, 4G, or a mix |
| Brand names | Names such as Infinix, Tecno, Itel, Oppo, Realme, OnePlus, Samsung, Nokia, HMD, Honor, ZTE and QMobile appear |
| Factory cities | Lahore, Karachi, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Mardan, Sheikhupura |
| Newest rows | Authorisations numbered MDM-01 to MDM-03 in 2025 and 2026 |

The file's table is hard to read in places, because several brand and date cells wrap across rows. We cannot say from it which brand belongs to which company, so we only name brands that appear somewhere in the list. Open the PDF and read the row for your brand yourself.
How to check a "made in Pakistan" claim in five steps
Ask the seller which company made the phone, then look for that company and your brand in PTA's list. A real local maker has an authorisation number in the PTA/MDM format. Then check the handset itself for PTA registration, because the list covers makers, not individual phones.
- Read the box for a company name and factory address, not only a brand logo.
- Open PTA's Mobile Device Manufacturing page and download the latest master list.
- Search the list for the company, the brand and the technology that matches your phone.
- Note the authorisation number and approval date for your records.
- Check the phone's IMEI in the DVS app before you insert a SIM.

For the last step, see our guide on checking a phone's PTA status with the DVS app. A made in Pakistan claim does not replace that check. And if you are comparing prices, 5G phones made in Pakistan shows how much of the market is now local.
PTA charges importers a per device fee that is lower for local assembly
PTA's administrative charge schedule for the Certificate of Compliance lists a lower fee per device for kits imported by authorised makers than for finished phones. The charge falls on the importer, not on you at the shop, so it does not tell you the retail price.
| Import type | 2G only device | 3G, 4G and above |
|---|---|---|
| SKD or CKD kits by MDM authorisation holders | Rs 4 | Rs 40 |
| CBU, finished phones | Rs 50 | Rs 250 |
| Non-SIM based device | Rs 5 | Rs 5 |
SKD and CKD mean semi and completely knocked down kits that are assembled here. CBU means completely built up, a finished phone. PTA's note says the radio technology is taken from the GSMA database for SIM based devices. Tax on phones is a separate matter; see PTA tax on 5G phones.
What the list does not tell you
The list does not rate quality, warranty or price. It does not say that a given phone model passed PTA type approval, and it does not replace the IMEI check. It shows only that a company holds a PTA authorisation to make phones.
It also changes. PTA updates the file, and a new entry or a withdrawn one can appear. Always download the newest edition. If you suspect a false claim, our guide to the complaints PTA accepts shows what to send.
Common questions
How many companies can make phones in Pakistan?
PTA's master list dated 12 August 2026 has 39 numbered entries. Some companies hold more than one authorisation.
How long does a PTA manufacturing authorisation last?
Ten years. It can be renewed if the holder asks in writing six months before it ends.
Can a foreign company make phones here on its own?
PTA's procedure says authorisations go to local companies or joint ventures, with at least 33 per cent local shareholding in a joint venture.
Does a locally made phone need PTA registration?
Check every phone in the DVS app before you rely on it. We did not find PTA text that says whether handsets made at an authorised plant are registered automatically.
Where is the master list?
On PTA's Mobile Device Manufacturing in Pakistan page, under the title List of Mobile Device Manufacturing Authorization Holders in Pakistan.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked on 14 October 2026. Sources: PTA, Procedure for Grant of Mobile Device Manufacturing (MDM) Authorization by PTA; PTA, Updated MDM Contact List Master 2026 (12 August 2026); PTA, Administrative Charges of CoC (April 2025). We did not visit a factory or test a phone. The master list's layout is scrambled in places, and we counted its numbered entries at 39.
